Dec 2014
once when my heart was heavy
sought refuge in a place where the laughter was strange
where there were men of pestilence in their souls
but it was a place to call home
it was a place that in the cold of night remained warm
you might be frightened by the gleam in their steel shod eyes
but i know the road they have walked in heavy silence
and i know that nothing forgiven is ever regretted
stealing away with scraps of their souls
at the dinner table of the paupers and pawns
at the crowning moment of failure
goodnight and goodbye they call out so fondly
because a few days from christmas we all look so perfect
we all look like we are living in a better place
so let these dark eyed men carry away your fears
let them wrap you in the stillness and slumber
and drift off to sweet dreams
