Long I’ve stood here alone and bold,
Much I’ve seen, my secrets untold,
Daring couples and their illicit fun,
And lonely cries to a setting sun.

Nature through her tempest, has thrown her worst,
I’ve faced it all, as if I'm cursed,
Through rain, hail, sleet and even snow,
To gale force winds or summers glow.

Safe refuge I’ve given for those who seek,
Provided respite for those so weak,
My purpose in life, to protect from harm,
Like St Christopher, a travellers charm.

For my service, I seek no pay,
Just promise to protect you all each day,
Keeping travellers safe at sea,
Is the only thing that matters to me.

Standing tall against the breeze,
Constant watchman of the seas,
A beacon to guide throughout the night,
Like a siren, enticing sailors with my light.

A booming horn in case of fog,
Startling the walker and their dog,
Mostly I’m as quiet as a mouse,
Not glamorous, not elegant, just a lighthouse.

Nature's fury, nature's fire,
Feel her wrath as she shows her ire,
Be it tempest or be it gale,
Hear her cry as the winds they wail.

Earthquake, hurricane or fiery volcano,
Death and destruction wherever they go,
Tsunamis lurk 'neath seven seas,
Bringing the mightiest to their knees.

This Earth we share, there is but one,
She shall live on long after we're gone,
To her we are a mere parasite,
Nothing compared to her fire and might.

The time of man, is now at hand,
As we **** and pillage cross every land,
The end of days is our recourse,
As nature responds, without remorse.

Love is honest, love is kind,
Love is brutal, love is blind,
Love is hope, love is sorrow,
Love today, is hurt tomorrow,
Love it comes, love it goes,
How long it stays, no one knows.

When first are born, we are timid new,
We have no opinions, we have no view,
These will grow as will we through years,
Our curiosity increasing, as will our fears.

An infant life, a joy to hold,
Your dreams for them, impressive, bold,
All you hope is a life well lived,
A happy life for your most precious gift.

Never forgetting that teary eye,
When hearing their first earthly cry,
They seem so small, held in your hands,
This tiny being with big demands.

Their life to you they do entrust,
Somedays they’ll leave you so hard pushed,
But for them, you’ll give your all,
To help them stand so proud and tall.

They’ll look to you so worldly wise,
To wipe the tears from their eyes,
All you say, the utmost truth,
Such is the trusting nature of youth.

All we can do, is give our best,
Cheer them up when they’re depressed,
Be that shoulder on which to lean,
And our trusty tissue to keep them clean.

A child is our ultimate task,
Providing answers to all they ask,
Be it girl, or be it boy,
They’ll always fill our lives with joy.

Life is life, embrace it, live it,
You have so much, so let go and give it,
You are unique, you have such gifts,
You cannot know whose life it lifts.

Just be yourself, as born to be,
Display your qualities for all to see,
To change yourself to impress another,
Will lead to pain and make you suffer.

No one can know what lies in wait,
To some it’s destiny, or maybe fate,
So face your life and wear a smile,
Just don’t forget to use your guile.

The path you tread, is yours to choose,
Some days you’ll win, some days you’ll lose,
These words aren’t reckless, strained or wild,
Just guidance I longed for as a child.

I came, I lived, I've died and gone,
My cycle of life, though brief, is done.

Tick tock, tick tock,
The incessant noise of that ****** clock,
The seconds march through minutes to hours,
And soon the sun shall warm the flowers.

Can anyone stop that chronological beat?
As this lack of sleep I try to cheat,
A million things race through my mind,
To chart a future as yet defined.

My music plays to pass the time,
To lose that annoying hourly chime,
The tunes would normally soothe my soul,
But finding slumber, my only goal.

The neighbours’ dog and its eerie howl,
I lie awake, just moan and scowl,
It sounds just like a hound from hell,
Another lonely soul it seems, as well.

As if coyote to the moon,
Across the night its cries are strewn,
I long to hear its baying cease,
So I can lay back here in peace.

The time flies on towards the morn,
And another day I face with scorn,
I’m blessed with life, I should be glad,
But such bad luck, it drives me mad.

A simple life is all I seek,
With some excitement found each week,
A life like this, just can’t be hard,
But now insomnia plays its card.

To find the life, for which I long,
I must stay focused, I must stay strong,
This very task plays on my mind,
And why this lack of sleep’s a bind.

So many things I have to do,
To start this life, both bold and new,
All these thoughts sweep through my brain,
And why I lie awake with the strain.

To just up sticks and move away,
Sounds like heaven to me I say,
Which friends to lose, which friends to keep,
Explains my current lack of sleep.

Always nice, and seldom cruel,
Has always left me played the fool,
Cast aside, I’m usually brushed,
But now stand tall before I’m crushed.

I shut my eyes, lie on my bed,
As all these thoughts dance round my head,
So I pray the lord, my soul to keep,
As finally I succumb to sleep.
