it has been a while
Patrick Aug 2017
Feelings wax and feelings wane
as the tides or the rain.
Emotions come and then they go
as the winters freezing snow.
They blow on with blustery power
but even a gale feeds the flower.
Beauty can be born
after life has been torn.
I have felt like this, sometimes. when days are good. i feel that the storm will end and i will see my way out. then i look back and see from where i've come, and think, "maybe i'm just in the eye."

Trapped in my mind
Patrick Jul 2014
you ask a question,
such a simple task.
But what should I say,
and how should I say it?

I think about it for a second,
for a minute,
for an hour,
then what about what you said,
What was it again?

you tell me something,
such a simple idea.
what do I think,
and how do I feel?

I tell you in a sentence,
in a paragraph,
in a speech.
but what were we talking about,
what was I saying?

You yell into my ear,
such a regular ordeal.
why can't I speak,
and why can't I think?

I look at you for a day,
for a month,
for a year.

But how can I answer,
when it's the same question,
and I still don't know what to think,
what I say,
or how to change?

buried
Patrick Jul 2014
The children sit there crying
as the people all lay dying,

but all I can do,
is sit and stare at you.

At least you are still,
maybe after a test of will,
my heartache will bring you back.

Children bury those who turn old,
it is life though it is cold.

I must live without you,
you may be many and we few,
parents who bury children.

Daughter Dear
Patrick Jul 2014
Daughter dear,
I will not say I shed a tear.
Daughter dear,
why must we linger here?

Daughter dear,
I will not say I still hear you.
Daughter dear,
why can it not be true?

Daughter dear,
you have gone so far away.
Daughter dear,
how long must we stay?

Here without you.

Wish I could see
Patrick Jan 2014
It’s hard to know who I am
It’s hard to see who I am
When I can’t be
What I can’t see
And I can’t see me
And then I try to flee
But I can’t cut the cord
So I can’t run from the gun
That holds me back
Pulls me back
And I never thought in a million years this would be me
Sitting and hoping and yearning and coping
And hating the world
And hating me.

I wish I could see.
Patrick Nov 2013
when may we run, friend?
when may we fly?

for you have seen the light, love.
and so have I.

you know for whom I write,
you see her every day.

you know for whom I fight,
just look in your mirror and say,
"i'm loved, i'm free."

how many now?
Patrick Nov 2013
one for the money
two for the show
three to get ready
four still to go
five for the memory
six for the pain
seven for the hate
eight to stop the rain
nine for the sleep
ten for the taste
eleven for the fear
twelve because it's in my hand
thirteen for the neighbors
fourteen for that feeling
fifteen because
sixteen for

seventeen

eighteen.

maybe tomorrow will be more.

shall we?
Patrick Oct 2013
When thoughts do run upon the road, as tiny little feet,
Shall we dance and sing and laugh unto that merry beat?

When souls do sigh upon the breeze, as whispering mother earth,
Shall we smile and fade away into that silent mirth?

When hands do slide upon your skin, as water down its bed,
Shall we lie and dream of love as you softly touch my head?

With X's For Eyes
Patrick May 2013
A paper plate is strapped to my face
With x's for eyes
And a sick sad smile
But it's just a lie
And all I want to do is cry

Because when we parted ways
I lost my face
To these lies that cover up my eyes
Because you just need your space
Till the end of days
Or until I cry
Whichever comes last

It’s been too long in its place
I can hardly remember my face
But if I try to take it off
All see is a mirror
And all the sorrow that's still there
So I put it back on

This paper place
With X's for eyes
And a sick sad smile

Because when our hears got broken
I lost my face
To these lies that cover up my soul
Because you think it should be over
I wish I could have spoken, anything but a lie

But I live in a hole
Till the end of days
Or until I die
Whichever comes last
Behind this paper plate
With X's for eyes

When Love Grows Old
Patrick May 2013
When love grows old
You must take hold
of the one you told
      I love you

Wen passion turns cold
You have to be bold
with the one you told
     I love you

The Road
Patrick Mar 2013
the long dark road
i will follow till the end
i will hate till the end
my baggage is a heavy load

this winding path
seems to never have an end
twists and turns until the end
if i get there, maybe i can release this wrath

who will i be when i find the end
what will i do if it's just another bend

The Fool
Patrick Mar 2013
he sings and he jokes,
he laughs and he cries,
and all as smart as a mule,

he yells and he whispers,
he spits and he pleads,
to even those who rule,

hes a poet and artist,
an actor and a geneus,
but what manner of man is this,
that in all languages we call a fool.

Getting Better
Patrick Dec 2012
Walking in the cleansing rain
Washing all the ***** pain

Breathing in the crisp night air
Curing all the worldly care

Smelling midnight watery flower
Embracing all the ****** power

Watching lightening crack the sky
Losing the feeling I will die

it will awaken
Patrick Dec 2012
When sun shines upon beaded grass,
Do not close your eyes.

When rain washes away the ugly dirt,
Do not zip your jacket.

When leaves color and fall to the earth,
Do not mourn the forlorn tree,
For it will awaken,
In spring.

To live.

To Which God, Then?
Patrick Dec 2012
Pray not to your God of Love,
For her blade,
Too easily stayed,
Is slow more often than not.

Pray not to your God of War,
For his hate,
Not easy to sate,
Robs him of all thought.

Pray not to your God of Beauty,
For her face so fair,
her only real care,
Makes her blind to all but a mirror.

Pray not to your God’s of Moon and Sun,
For their dance,
Caught in eternal trance,
Sees not the problems below.

No, pray not to your God’s,
For they retain,
None but in their domain,
And care not for anyone other.
So pay no heed,
To what you see as their need,
And hope they forgive your action.
