She stood, pen and paper in hand,
Hating her profession for it was bland.
Searching the starless sky for a sign,
Hollowness at the core left her in a bind.

She needs some freeing.
Her ambition has no ceiling.
Dreams of a Parisian flat with a terrace,
Her wandering mind tends to scare us.

Someday she’ll have it all,
Grinding away day and night, viewed as an oddball.
When that day comes she might smile with what her new life brings,
Or she’ll reflect indignantly, wishing she enjoyed the small things.

Why are you so quiet?
You talk too much.

We love you; let us take care of you.
Be more independent; you're an adult.

Are you depressed?
Smile more, after all, it could always be worse.

Find your passion.
Everyone hates work, quit *******.

Everyone can *******.
Whatever it is that'll make you happy, I'll be that.

Being alone is a liberating thing
It allows you to discover yourself
Your true self

And yet,
As I watch the passers go by
I can’t help but feel life passing me by

That young couple, their movements synchronized
With that sort of sparkle in their eyes
That only ever comes about with true love

Or the young child
Soaking in everything life has to offer
With an ignorance that is palpable and endearing

Ignorance is bliss, so I’m told
But you haven’t truly lived life until that same ignorance
Is taken away from you

So I stick to myself
Stuck in these thoughts
Drowning further away

Us
I'm never fully content
Longing over memories we could share
Over mistakes we could make
Together, just to grow as one

I want us to ooz together
Two souls into one
As if nothing before ever happened
And everything was yet to come

I don't want you to become the thing I look back on
And wonder what if?
I want to be the person you lean on
And you to be the one I go to for everything

As time goes on
My memory of you slowly fades
To the point at which you become
The silhouette that haunts my dreams

— The End —
