The darkness of the night engulfed me
As I wished upon stars
To find something to hold.
The ocean stretched its peaceful fingers,
Calling me towards it’s ups and downs-
Similar to my own.
Her fingers intertwined with mine as
Her deep heart handed me a beautiful oyster
In my cold, trembling hand.
I kept it by my side for a year:
Untouched, unopened
Cherishing it from afar
In fear.
But you can never truly know something
Behind a shell.
So with urges like Pandora,
I opened the chest of the ocean,
Expecting it to run back into the ocean
Once it recognised who I truly am.
But instead I was facing a loving silver pearl,
Holding onto the treasure the ocean had given me,
Desperately,
Until all it felt was warmth and comfort.
Its soft surface and
Imperfect shape
Cures and hugs me as I join the ocean
In its ups and downs.
Laughing and smiling
Because no moment can be as perfect as these.
I promise it that
If one day the ocean steals my treasure back
I will swim through all the sea’s monsters and secrets
And hold it again.
Forever and always.
