meaningless smile

she puts on a face

her smile wide, but never quite reaching her eyes

she tries to be happy, but all her laughs come out forced

she wonders what real joy feels lie

if there's a way to escape this reality of hers

there must be

everyone she passes has a spark in their eyes

she can see how they love feeling the sunlight on their faces

she wants to feel that,

but she's always stuck in the dark
