The Sloth
Mike Adam Feb 2022
From deepest
Hibernation
Rise

Phantomic
Images-

A street of
Ceaseless hum

A poesy of
Fallen petals-

This is work
Beyond words

Where silence
Snows

And everlasting
Freedom

Roams,
Bandaged and
Balmed against
The light that
Blisters
And fails.

Even so,
Love seems real

Mike Adam May 2016
I slept
deep into the rock
of Wales

dead I was to
thought-
to walkers by who

sent prayers skywards
for my aching soul-
for he is dead

but I slept on-
knew not of
mourning love
nor fear

oh on slept I
deep down into
Welsh granite
hard slept I

for he is dead and gone

When did this beard grow
Old?

So silvery white,
Tousled and tangled.

A young boy plays
Behind it

Tumbling forward
And back,

Mind clear and
Almost singing.

Like gravity upon

This is it, then.

Unable to rise
From your throne-

Look death in the face
And say

Took no vow but
Ate nothing good

Took no viw but

Sleeping little girl
face of never been kissed

Waking sleepy eyes cloudy
with dew lips stretching
to smile

Rutting face flushed
contorted pleasure
good big bad girl

Morning face open as sun

Working face furrowed
in concentration

Evening face made to
melt in painted splendour

Myriad facets of one
beloved face haloed
by tumbling hair
and massing gravitational
pull on one helpless man

Unplug nerveless nostril

Bare gummy mouth

Those boon companions
bear no fault that
they died to the world

And have no clue

the star fell

(though to us she burns
bright in her long

They never felt
vulcanised veins nor
systematic surges of love.
