Breath of leaf

Still wind

Along the river bank
something stirs.

Tree spirits wisp
and sway,

Transparent in ghostly garb

Never noticed the stone
up ahead.

Stubby toes, let
rock remind,

Look around, watch
where you go.

Stood on one leg
clutching clubbed foot.

Old stone on the road,

walking southern bank
thames turgid under sun

Reading a sonnet
on the stage of the globe

diamond glittering

Whispering tenderness
In westminster abbey
and watching the stone
masoned to hold
long dead poets

magpie black, white
etched on blue grey steel
sky

tree bare,
buds in relief

over sloping roof.

now magpies,
fluttering to rest,
white and black,
mate.

never believed in
perspective,
history nor
evolution,

the game of birds
coupling,
pigeon dances
I had seen, yet
still
without belief.

on my man-couch,
reclining,

western cave in
the east,
facing south-

am I at last so
wrong? about
everything?

tomorrow I burst
like the bud

then we shall see
order or
chaos.

will this doubt become
flower
fruit
or leaf?

And landscapes
Merge and change

Myriad facets of one
beloved face haloed
by tumbling hair
and massing gravitational
pull on one helpless man

How wonderful
When this language

Comes together,
Falls apart.
