Love of My Life
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
I have lived and been loved by so many,
In so many ways;
Yet I feel as if I did not know what it meant to be loved,
Until you loved me.
I have lived and loved so many,
In so many ways,
And I thought I knew what it meant to love,
Until I loved you.
Because you love me and I love you,
I can now love all these others;
Understand and receive their love, as never before.
Even God’s love is richer and fuller.
But, Love is also requires a choice,
So, I must  also choose.
I choose you,
The Love of My Life.

How Could You Love Me?
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
How could you love me,
A sinner - and oh, so vain?
How could you love me,
When I fail You again and again?
How could you love me,
When I halfheartedly love you back?
How could you love me,
When I can't even stay on track?

Yet, somehow You love me,
Enough to suffer and die.
Yet, somehow You love me,
One who fails You as much as I.
Yet, somehow You love me,
Today, tomorrow and alway.
I don't know how you can love me
Day, after day, after day.

Help me to love You,
And put aside selfishness and pride.
Help me to love You,
And strive to walk close by your side,.
Help me to love You,
To live moment by moment for you.
Help me to love you,
And by Grace to your love remain true.

Just Three Words
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
Just three words. . .
                                Three words than can never tell
                                The feelings that within me swell
                                Three words that try to say
                                Just how lovely you make each day.

                                Three words, that's all I know
                                To tell you what my heart would show.
Just three words. . .
                                I know they're true.
                                They must be said. . .
                                                                    I love you.

Our Way
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
I look on with respect and admiration as you take charge of Your life, your destiny.
I see and understand the excitement and the fear
You are experiencing, and I delight in your freedom
As you find your way.

I am also taking charge of
My life, my destiny.
I, too, am experiencing excitement and fear
And I cherish the freedom that I have as I go my way.

My greatest joy is looking by my side and finding that,
By God’s grace and our choice, your way and my way is
Our way.

May our way be always
A way of mutual respect and admiration,
A path of unconditional love and abiding trust,
A road that winds through a joyous lifetime,
And a journey that endures throughout eternity.

No words can express what you have done to my soul.
Something was missing and now I feel whole.

I can’t comprehend what you’ve done to my mind.
You accepted and helped me my true self to find.

Indescribable feelings flood through my heart.
To live life without you would tear me apart.

  Inexpressible words,
                   Incomprehensible ideas,
                                            Indescribable feelings,

Could best let me say how your love’s left me dealing
With Inexpresscomprehensivedescribable You !

If you have never experienced the fun and silliness that love brings into your life, then I am sorry you have missed out...and doubt that you have truly experienced love. This is just one of those silly poems and I mean every word of it!

Precious Roses
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
Precious roses placed in her care,
Each one is different, each with gifts so rare.
She tenderly nurtures them in this garden of life,
As she prepares them for spring and the seasons of strife.

They are warmed by the sunshine of her love
And challenged by the fertilizer of her demands,
They are watered with the tears of her concern
And pruned under the discipline of her hands.

She lives humbled and honored and trembles each day,
That as placed in her hand by the Heavenly Father,
These precious roses make a beautiful bouquet
By which the Lord up above has honored her as “mother.”

Through and Through
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
The  passing thought of you,
The enchanting sound of you,
The sweetest scent of you,
The slightest glimpse of you,
The longest sight of you,
The faintest touch of you,
The boldest grasp of you,
The honey taste of you,
The warm embrace of you,
The matchless love of you,
Transforms me through and through!

A Tribute to Love
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
Love
An emotion, yes - but more –
A commitment, made with the heart.
A heart shaped by love, tested in faith, yet scarred by sin.

So, it’s a love given, not worthy of love.
A love note scrawled on a scrap of paper with a crayon the wrong shade of red.
A note that says simply

Here is my heart – such as it is. It’s all I have and I am
ashamed to offer it to you. It’s tattered and marked
with crayon outside the lines in the wrong shade of
red, from the stain of my wounds and the wounds that
I’ve caused others, especially you.

But it’s mine and it’s all I have. Please take it,
hold it, keep it. I don’t deserve it, but….Love me.

And you do. I don’t know why.
In so many significant ways you show me your love.

With my broken heart and in my feeble way I treasure you and I love you.

In the dictionary of my heart is a picture of you holding my love note…
Scrawled on a scrap of paper with a crayon the wrong shade of red;
Next to the word "Love"

My tribute is you.

WOW! (Part 1)
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
A wondrous beauty entered the room
Wide and surprised, my eyes took her in.
This wonderful woman captured my heart.
Feelings I’d concealed surfaced right then.
And before I could stop, there escaped from my lips
A word I never used to describe such a sight.
It rose from my soul and leapt from my heart,
Then rolled off my tongue with delirious delight.
It reached out caressing and caught her off guard.
Then vivaciously a smile flashed across her sweet face,
As she realized how sincerely that word did describe
How I saw in her form such beauty and grace.
Each time I see her from then until now,
That word rises, and leaps and rolls to my tongue.
And I just can’t describe her except to say, “Wow!”

Ex Nihilio
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
In repentance and salvation
we are given a new heart,
our old hearts having been reduced
to nothing by our sinfulness.
Then God does what He did
that first day of creation.
He creates something new and good
ex nihilio,
out of nothing!

Poor Ol' Lonely Me
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
I sit here, poor ol' lonely me,
and fear the grip of senility.
My joints all ache - i can barely see.
Everything's worn out on me.

My family's busy and pays no mind.
So often their words aren't too kind.
To their slights they think I'm blind,
as if I have no heart or mind.

Lord to you I turn and humbly pray
for the strength to face this day.
My faltering steps lead in Your way.
Please show me what to do and say.

Help me see your loving care,
and of others needs be aware.
Help me be ready their burdens to bear,
as Your salvation I gladly share.

I'll hang in here one more day,
as these old bones creak and sway.
Perhaps my famliy will come and see
- poor ol' lonely me.

Without A Word
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
Silent, but for the beating of our hearts,
Peaceful, but for the passion of our souls,
Smiling, but for the teardrops of our joy,
Free, but for the chains of our love.
Ecstatic, but for the comfort of our arms,
Holding you, holding me;
Without a sound,
Without a word,
Saying everything.

Heart to Heart
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
Hold hands with me . . .
Let me entwine my fingers with yours,
Then squeeze to feel the pulse of your love.

Walk with me . . .
Or just let me walk with you,
with a skip in my step, as I soak in your presence.

Stand with me . . .
And let me gaze into your eyes
To bask in the warmth of your soul.

Live with me . . .

Hand in hand,
     Side by side,
          Eye to eye,
               Heart to heart.

Pray with Me
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
Take my hand and pray with me,
Your heart as one with mine;
Then let our spirits soar united
Into God’s presence sublime.

In the midst of every day
We will stand together
While bowing quietly side by side
Every storm we’ll weather.

I can lose myself in your arms
And forget our every care,
But let’s embrace within our hearts
And caress each other with prayer.

You Are a Mother
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
You are a mother,
Fertile and brimming with life,
You conceived not once, but twice;
And then another.
You carried them as part of you
For more months than two years
And then gave birth with pain and tears,
Giving the gift of life brand new.
One by one you held them close,
Nursed and burped and cleaned,
Then helped them the truth to glean
Even as you help each blow their nose.
Day by day you helped their day begin,
You washed their clothes and helped them dress,
You fed them well and cleaned their mess,
And every night you tucked them in.
And you did well for each of them,
As we see  now the choices they have made.
You showed the way and on that path they've stayed.
Life's touched and shaped each into a precious gem.
No matter what about in this life you discover,
Or where you go or who you love or what you do,
Above anything in your life that’s you find new;
Remember, always and forever, you are a mother!

Yielding
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
I open up my heart to you
In trust and adoration;
And bare my soul before your gaze,
Without a reservation.
I see you do the same with me
And cherish your dear trust;
That precious gift is everything,
And give my all, I must.
As I hold you in my arms,
And feel your heart with mine;
I know when yielding to your love,
Everything is fine.
I see you yielding all to me,
As I look into your eyes;
And pray that faith will always grow
And never, ever die.

So you reveal yourself to me.

Though it pales in the presence of the beauty that is you.

Knowing You
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
Sensing your presence,
Feeling your heart,
Understanding your convictions,
Reading your thoughts,
Hearing your words,
Echoing your prayers,
Whispering your longings,
Dreaming your dreams,
Exploring your flesh,
Breathing your name,
Grinning your laughter,
Crying your tears,
Watching your rapture,
Embracing your love,
Knowing you.

Michael S Davis Mar 2013
When I sit at Jesus feet,
I’m at home.

When I read His Word and pray,
I’m at home.

With my family ‘round me gathered,
As we crown Him Lord and Savior;
When He’s King of Kings at my house,
I’m at home.

In Love?
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
We’re in love.
Felt every time we think of each other,
Seen each time we look into each other’s eyes,
At work in all of our actions toward one another,
And complete in our vision of our future together.

Can we prove it?
The proof is with God —
Our love is a matter of faith.
Our faith in each other and our faith in God.
That is the substance of our love,

The evidence that proves
We’re in love.

I Love You
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
I love you.
I love you, by knowing you.
I know you, by hearing you.
I hear you, by holding you.
I hold you, by freeing you.
I free you, by seeing you.
I see you, by touching you.
I touch you, by pleasing you.
I please you, by feeling you.
I feel you, by filling you.
I fill you, by loving you.
I love you!

Worth It All
Michael S Davis Apr 2013
There are dreams and wishes and visions of things
That are the reasons we live as we do.
The path that we take with the challenge it brings
Reflects the motive behind what we choose.

I’ve dreamed of belonging and finding my place,
Then your kiss gave me my first clue;
And those dreams became real in the smile on your face,
As I realized I belonged ever with you.

All the wishes I’d wished for faded from view,
And all my plans just crumbled and fell
When I pictured a life spent always with you,
Enchanted and under your spell.

The visions remain as true as before,
Though not as dependent on me.
My vision is clearer, you’ve opened a door
For me to be all I can be.

It may seem at times as if I give up on things,
That I could never again stand up tall;
But the visions and wishes and all of my dreams,
Are fulfilled in your love and worth it all.

So Many Beats to Go
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
We’ve been here before,
so it seems,
you and I;
So many tears ago.

But it was not this place,
not these eyes,
not these hearts;
So many fears ago.

We stood in the wrong place,
gazed into the wrong eyes,
ached for the wrong heart;
So many cares ago.

Though it seems
we’ve been here before,
you and I,
So many years ago.

This is the right place, we are here together.
These are the right eyes, clearly we see each other.
These are the right hearts, they beat as one;
So many beats to go.

In My Arms
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
Just to hold and feel you close to me,
as you sigh and feel me next to you;
and perhaps, to ease the loneliness
of the moments when you feel so terribly.
It’s so hard to see you in distress
and not be able to take your pain away
as you would mine, if it were me,
that needed upon your breast to rest.
Oh, to protect you from all harms
would be my vow if it were in my power
to make everything all right,
by cradling you forever close to me, in my arms.

Stay Close
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
Stay close, my darling.
It is so dark and cold
when anything between us casts a shadow.
It is easy to get separated in the darkness—
and we both hate the cold.
Speak to me when the shadows fall
and I will whisper your name;
Then we can reach out to each other
and step into the light of each other’s arms
and the warmth of each other’s hearts.

What Are We Afraid Of?
Michael S Davis Mar 2013
Does my love scare you?
It scares me so I want to drop from view.
My love for you requires so much of me,
I often wonder how a love as this can be.
You know - a thought just came.
Perhaps the fear you have is just like mine - the same!
Though I guess I'd feel then, just the same as you.
That I don't deserve so great a love,
So, what are we afraid of?

©1977 Michael S. Davis
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
I’m looking in your window and see you looking back,
Reflecting all the feelings that we share.
I see the joy and trust
That comes from understanding,
And I see the love that flows from between us there..
The image that I see, is really crystal clear,
For the streaks that once obscured our point of view
Have been polished all away
By the efforts of two souls to see each truth.
Yes, I’m looking in your window,
And I’ll keep looking in your window
For the rest of both our long and loving lives;
Because, I am looking in the window of your eyes.

Part of Me, Part of You
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
There’s a part of me I never knew,
Then I met you.

You’re the part of me I always missed,
Until we kissed.

You’re the part of me that brought me charm,
The moment I held you in my arms.

You’re the part of me that should only be,
Forever and always, part of me.

My choicest prayer is like that, too,
To  always and ever, be part of you.

Without the Fear
Michael S Davis Feb 2013
I fear to love you –
And, yet, “Perfect love casts out fear.”
This I know and, so, I pray to love you perfectly.
You, I do not fear. I fear myself with you.
You touch my heart and soul
In ways they’ve not been touched before;
And in that touch release my spirit
Above the clouds to soar;
And in that flight, I fear to loose myself in you;
And in that loss, I fear the harm that may befall
Those who love us, too.
So, I fear, and pray, and seek to love you with a perfect love that only God can give;
To touch your heart with mine
in ways that only His wisdom can define;
and, so, to live
In perfect love with you – without the fear.
