were about him

just as suddenly,

stopped playing
all those songs
replaced them
with heartbroken ballads
and yet,
they were still about him
he always had to be the center of attention

the boys of the mid-west
are kind

are strong
easy to love
easy to look at

like a trophy

with their southern
charm
