your fingers braided promises into my hair
your touch raised goosebumps on my skin
your voice stuck in my head my favorite song.

I'm a pretty pathetic poet
I'm not up at 3am pouring my heart out on white canvases
Or composing wonderful literature about love
Fact is in asleep before most of you eat dinner
Just sitting in my room thinking about the pack of Marlboro lights hidden under my bed
There's no great epiphany I can right about
I'm not a Emerson, a Whitman, or a Dillard or a Hull

I'm not a poet.

I wish being a poet made me money. I wish my emotions made people happy. I just wish a lot of things for a lot of outcomes because I just want to be happy.

I didn't know you well
but if I did
I would tell you
how your smile lit up the room
how you're eyes radiated life
and how much I admired
you're ability to stay strong
and carry the weight of the world
in the palm of your hand

but I know
she knows
you know
that sometimes
the world gets too heavy
and the weight is too much
and if you need to rest
we will do our best
to understand and accept

it's not over yet
and truthfully your story will never end
you have an eternal place
in our hearts
and in the world

I believe all things will happen
as they do
and if this is the way
things have to be
then I will remain optimistic
because clouds always have
their silver lining.

you tell me not to be sad,
to think positive
and be grateful
for the things i already have,
but maybe it's good
too cry about it.
maybe it's good
to stay up at 3 AM
thinking about it.
maybe it's good
to run outside and scream
"I'M NOT ALRIGHT."
because i'm sick and tired
of fixing everyone else's problems
when i can't even fix my own.

do  you  think  about   me
as   much   as   i  think   of
you?  because    i    always
catch   myself   wandering
off  to thinking of you and
how  you  are so  beautiful
to me in so many different
ways and i  wonder if  you
feel the  same  about me or
if  i'm  just  another  one of
those    people    who     are
temporary    in    your   life.

I could be anything the way I wish
A bowlful of food an empty dish
A blade of grass or a redwood tree
But I want to be the way you want me.

I could be anyone the way I wish
Furrowed forehead or smiles that please
A heart rigid or a mind that’s free
But I want to be the way you want me.

I could be a face covered with veil
A man of dogma or with free will
Kissing wind or a stinging bee
But I want to be the way you want me.

I could be the man I thought I must
Winner in suspicion loser in trust
A narrow stream or the boundless sea
But I want to be the way you want me.

sometimes,
our biggest fear
and most tragic regret
is ourselves.

sometimes,
love can turn you into gold
lining the walls of an ancient castle.
and sometimes,
love can turn you cold
cooling the tender heart
that was once inflamed with passion.

I sit idly as the days pass me by
and next to you
I feel so alive.
But some days,
without you
I feel so exposed on the inside.

The thing about love is,
it can be the brightest of days,
and the darkest of nights.
It can show you,
the side of yourself
you would've stored away
if you'd known it was there.

Who am I,
or you, to judge love?
It is it's own force,
it's own entity
it can either leave you whole
or leave you empty
and I'm not sure
which one
love has left me.

with every breath i take
i shatter my insides
more and more
thinking about what we
could of had,
forgetting
about what we did.
