leaving town is leaving home
though I've only lived here
long enough to name a few streets
and memorize a handful of names

in three months time
a foreign city became
equally precious to me
as the place I was born

it's not the place
that cries out to me
not a feeling of belonging
that makes me sick to leave

it's the way you look
at me
i'm anxious to look away
from you

because you have become home to me.

The sun will rise tomorrow with that pure orange that fills the sky at dawn and awakens the birds who chirp us into semi-consciousness
And I will turn in my bed to face the darkness and whisper that life is magnificent
I won't remember that when I wake up

But it’s the subconscious thoughts that really count when the world is falling apart
We might lose ourselves and succumb to animalism but deep down we will always be there,
and what is more perfect than an object constantly at risk for breaking
We are these objects

Look in the mirror and witness your perfection
See the hands of god that once shaped your face embracing you still
Realise that you are bruised flesh and broken bone always healing and always being hurt
When aliens invade they will watch old movies and witness the archetype of humanity in each of us
They will wonder why we label each other when we all breath the same air and therefore contain bits of each other

Look in the mirror and realize you have done bad things but the beauty of life is that change is inevitable
For the good or the better
And that God probably wonders sometimes why he bothered making us

it comes in waves
more so than any
thing i've put in my system

a brutal break
terrible kick
incapacitated by addiction

time went by
fooling myself
you went your way i went mine

but life don't let
you off so easy
fighting that tingle in the spine

counting down
pending relapse
thought myself further than i am

i'll avoid meeting
end hiatus greetings
but i'm only humbly a man

stronger now than ever
mind and soul
in confidences i now stand

you'll float on in
just like i've dreamt
but it's me who'll have the upper hand

You woke me up when light touched
Our sleeping forms in shadow
Morning never held as much surprise for you
As waking up at midnight did
Cold smoke windows buffering
What little I could see of your face
Then you smiled
Lit up the room like a bonfire
Warm and safe running fingers through
What I feel is heaven, your beard
Groaning softly, no please don't roll over
Here is where we fit just right
Tracing sacred lines of our cosmic geometry
Making trapezoidal hearts along your fault lines
I'm no math major but I know a square root
When I see one
Always 1+1
Why can't we be it all?
Adding together for eternity
Until our edges fit cohesively
Instead of waiting for the light to melt them

gloom looks so good on you
we're doomed. theres no room for two.
a stagnent game of islolation
ironic, chronic concentration

on rainy days
wet shadows play
the melancholy dries away
caught between a dying sun, a loaded gun, the ides of May.

******, ****** desolation
injected with the sweet sensation
in loving hate, you despise creation
we are deep. unconscious. animations.

i like, i hate, i love, i loath
schizophrenic panic mode
like me, hate me, love me cold.
i watch the stars

and stars implode.

Look at the stars.
See how they never cease to
glow even on the darkest nights.

Be like those stars, child.

Look at the moon.
See how though it has no
light of its own it
refuses to leave you without bringing you some
light in the dark.

Be like the moon, child.
But most of all,

May you have the joy of your mother, for
her smile can light up a million black suns
and her laugh
can warm
even the coldest heart.

May you have her loathing for evil and
despise injustice like she does.
I hope you'll take up a sword and
fight for the truth alongside her, for
she fears no one
except
the only One who should be feared.

May you have the strength of your father
and walk with integrity like he does.
May you have his humble spirit,
his patient heart,
and his strong arm.

May you aim for excellence,
and shoot your arrows
straight and true.
I hope you learn to walk on waters
with a faith like your father's, and never
ever
look at
the threatening waves.

Look at the sky, child.
No, higher
       higher
       higher
because more than any other
I pray that you'll be

just like your Father.
A wedding gift for my P.E. coach. I hope his children have at least half the faith he does.

we held hands through
the halls of a concrete
elementary school;
the new shoes
our moms bought
us at the "back to
school" sales at the end
of a short summer, clanked
and screeched and
skited across the freshly
mopped floors

we laughed at recess and played
too much dress up
my best friend,
he hung from monkey bars
and smiled at the ground
and I still remember the first
time he asked to play
hide and seek
with a glaring look in his
big blue eyes

we shared head phones
in squishy army green
seats on a warm yellow bus
on the way to middle school,
and rested our
heads on each other's
shoulders at lunch,
laughing hard about
the summer,
complaining about the heat

my best friend,
he hung upside down
at the edge of my bed after
class was finally over
and he said "I think I
liked that other place
a little better"

we passed bottles
around basements
and blew kisses in gym class
we sped down noble rd
in our brand new
used cars on the way
to high school
screaming songs about everyone
we'd lost and all the ****
we wished we hadn't found

my best friend,
he hung old pictures
in his locker and he watched
the days as he fell behind them

we graduated
with slumped shoulders
and shadows under our eyes,
piercing smiles
& enough memories
to last a lifetime

we went off to college
and got ****** noses
from blowing lines
and telling lies

my best friend
he hung from
an extension cord
in the bedroom closet
of his ninth story
apartment

I still remember the first
time he asked to play
hide and seek
with a glaring look in his
big blue eyes

looks like we can
all use to be found
this time around
