FAIR MAIDEN
lorilynn Jun 2011
beautiful fair maiden
tending her mistress
revering in her muses .

long auburn tresses
come undone,
once a braid
embellished with ribbons
deep lavender color
as maiden’s eyes.

entering parlor
the comely chevalier
stunned by his presence.
voltage lightening sparkles
for time stopped.

remaining composed
casting downward
to make her leave,
empress needs tending affairs.

smitten she was
aghast a fool
she might've looked
her skin flushed
with reverence to behold.

unbeknownst to the privy
betrothal is in making
for he paid a pretty pence.

enchanted ever after
cinderella no more.~~copyrightlorilynn2011

christmas is all lit up in different neon color lights
with trees proudly standing ***** dressed
in festive colors
giving their scent of divine pine
beautifully decorated wreaths upon each welcoming door
while in debt shoppers are purchasing obligatory gifts
for loved ones
not practicing what it is about
christmas is a time to acknowledge JESUS
be an example of who we are to become
where do all these presents
lights and decorations come from?
it has been made into a pagan holiday
just a reason to shop for wantons and what nots
rather than humbly know HIM
to know HIM is to keep it simple
be modest and gracious
for HIS omnipresence.~~lorilynn

some say they are and some say they are not
some say they are not sure
life must mean something
for all our troubles, trials, restitutions and redemptions
what can all these tests possibly mean
they surely can't be all for nothing
at the end of our time
we account for something
or what is the use of it all
i say i am always wanting to do better and be better
building my steadfast foundation
not sand castles enveloped in quick sand.
my character is fired from a piece of coal
to a brilliant diamond
pristine diamond striving to be flawless
as a white innocent lamb
with not a blemish nor a black spot on my soul
my soul rests in peace.~~lorilynn

FAMILY DOG
lorilynn Dec 2010
it is a she
she thinks like a human
a sentient  being the master calls her
also his daughter he thinks it is
though she doesn’t look like either one of us
she is the boss here
she has us just where she wants us
under her rule and castle
she thinks it is hers to own
she is the master’s alarm clock
to get up and feed her NOW
but before we feed her she is suppose to do her business
she fakes it by just lifting her leg
she can get away with it from the master
but not the mistress who knows her games too well
she will do tricks for treats
dance around in circles
walks on her hind legs
sit, down, roll, shake and sings
she kisses for treats
those can be a lot of treats
we watch her diet
but not our own
she lets us know her dissatisfaction
with a growl
sometimes she is bluffing
or she’ll even fake a yawn
if we want to play.
she is too smart
she knows too many words
for she has broken the code of our spelling
when she does play
we love to hear her for she is laughing
she sleeps between the mistress and the master
her name is noodle.~~lorilynn

ROARING FIRE
lorilynn Nov 2010
roaring fiery flames
fill the empty void
inviting colors of ambers and golds ablaze
the room animates
different atmospheres of coziness
sitting back in retrospection
flickering fire entertains
with each crackling octave
creating peacefulness and calm.
whilst the flames aglow
playing Chopin
sipping cognac
burning scented candle of pine and rosemary
watching the felines and canine
congregating together harmoniously
mesmerized by flames
coruscating shadows on the walls
flames succumb catatonically
embers retire for the night.~~lorilynn

SERENITY
lorilynn Nov 2010
serenity is a euphoric surrendering
to the cerulean sky
the green grass swaying with
dandelions releasing
their soft feathery bristles
as tender as the gentle breeze
sending them far and wide
pillowy clouds
suggest ever moving images
the kaleidescope of a child's mind
taking on different shapes
along the sparsely trodden path
trees waving leaves in welcoming greeting
song birds endlessly composing a captivating melody
the air as clean and fresh
of purified aroma
breathing the deep
earthly essence
with each sigh
attaining tranquil purity
thoughts of stilled
quiescence and calm embalm me
in translucent cocoon.~~lorilynn

TAG THE OWL
lorilynn Nov 2010
penetrating sight and hearing
turning his head 90 degrees
listening for a rustle, squeak or cheep
manning his steadfast branch
sitting gallantly proud and astute in dead silence
clothed in winsome feathers
smooth as velveteen
shades of brown, rust with black specks
white breast plate and heart shaped face
large steely almond eyes that swoon his mate
releasing his talons
the rodent he brings
pounces on mate
instinctive coitus
screeching primal sounds fill the dark quiet night
she stays in her nest
checks her owlets yet to hatch
veraciously eating the award
gliding off he surrenders
the night is quiet again~~lorilynn

SEASONS
lorilynn Oct 2010
the changing prismatic leaves in autumn
tis the season in annual repose
embalmed in cocoon
seasons for all mankind
foliage and animals and winter snow
in evanescent inactivity
only to come hither
waking from slumbered  hibernation
when spring befalls
rewarding us with splendid surprises
painting a ubiquitous canvas
of emerging butterfly
spreading gossamer wings
to be reborn in realms
we may not have known.~~lorilynn

BLUE MOON LADY
lorilynn Oct 2010
i am feeling blue for no reason
how can i feel blue
if there is no reason
i have a wonderful soulmate
a nice home
critters who snuggle
i tell you i am blue
maybe i am not blue
but i think i am
how about if i be red
what is red
fiery mixed emotions
maybe that is it
emotions not having a name
maybe it is the full blue moon
how can a moon evoke emotions
the wolf man comes in the full moon
might as well dracula
and frankenstein come too
what does this call me
blue moon lady it is.~~lorilynn

RAIN
lorilynn Oct 2010
torrential teardrops join pavement
transforming surface to sheets of glass
patient trees plants flowers quenching their thirst
stray animals bemused hovering with caution
only to find shelter in the rustic shed
the good samaritan leaves scraps
through the makings of savory soup
passing cars washed in rain
will sparkle come sun
lounging indoors focusing through drenched windows
raindrops like opals
pattering on copper roof
cascade as peaceful shower
fairytale sound, sight and smells
invite nestling with a book
cup of tea and scone complete the pallet
with glowing candles
a sanctuary of chopin preludes
surrendering to peaceful sleep.~~lorilynn

SPACIAL MUSIC
lorilynn Oct 2010
listening to spacial music
notes resonating with wind chimes tinkling quarter tones
tranquility filling my space with wanton serenity
visual sounds of cascading crystalline streams
birds trilling their innocence in the air
willow trees swishing soft breezes
scents of fresh cut dewy grass
with misted sparkling drops
from morning’s fog
aromas of lilac
sweet jasmine co-mingling
enrapturing my breath
cocktail of exotic gases
at day’s end
evening welcoming
the distant crescent moon
stars dancing in complete synergy
lighting the sky while stilling the night
thundering with complete calm.~~lorilynn

WHAT IS BEHIND THE WINDOW
lorilynn Oct 2010
ever wonder what is going on
behind pretty ornate windows
or not pretty windows

sublime windows
ornately decorated
adorned with ivory lace
revealing perfection
with a keen eye to detail
limpid glass showcasing mistress in her den
sitting fancy in her pink chintz chaise
curled up with a book
her white persian sprawled
about her lap
licking her chops

ordinary windows
peeling blue paint
with smeared glass
lacking class
the home-keepers contending
important matters
bills piling up
whilst disaster pending
sitting in the kitchen contemplating
what ifs what nots and how tos

no matter the difference
windows tell the story
of what is.~~lorilynn

WORTH MORE THAN DIAMONDS
lorilynn Oct 2010
once upon a time
in my distant memory
no longer my reality
i had a gelding quarter horse
sixteen hands
burnt sienna chestnut
a white diamond on his forehead
he was my universe
a bond like no other
no one could go near him but me
didn’t trust mankind
i kissed his rubbery muzzle
braided his crimson mane
breathed the essence of sweet horse life
i could do anything with my trusted friend
when he lay out in the pasture
i would sit next to him
in companionable silence
i would ride him without a saddle nor bridle
he ever so gentle knowing
his light weight master upon him
i steered him with his red mane
to a nearby unspoiled shimmering creek
see a school of minnows
reflecting in the translucent sparkling waters
rich hues of blues and silver
in the summer we would go deeper into the water to cool off
i would lie back on his arched spine
look up at the radiant robin’s egg blue sky
the only sounds heard
the gushing stream
croaking frogs and
a small plane airborne in no-mans land
wondering its destination
whilst my friend and i
were in a world its own
we had a special connection
worth more than diamonds.~~lorilynn

SUNFLOWER FANTASY
lorilynn Oct 2010
i love fantasizing fields of sunflowers
a disk with matching color clustered petals
in the form of a ballerina's skirt
oranges, yellows or reds
i have come to call
them happy flowers with smiley faces
i lie embraced with jubilant faces
looking at dark thunderous clouds
white lightening bolts
doing a roaring fiery show at a distance
crystal dewdrops upon my face
the sun of mild temperature
creating an oasis through the clouds
as i lie in dreamy state
the rain that is suppose to be
but only prism dewdrops
misting the chasm of sunflowers
with a rainbow in vibrant colors
monarch butterflies of burnt orange
with black borders sprinkled white dots
fluttering about
all except one that lands on my hand
as i lie still watching
to see what she is doing
only to wonder if
she is thinking the same thing.~~lorilynn

MIRROR MIRROR WHO ARE YOU
lorilynn Oct 2010
where have the years taken me
all my streaks of silver
put on my head
subtle character lines on my face
to show my age
is this what they call
the mature woman
when looking in catalogs
to dress appropriately
i don't know if i like this
my mind is still in my earlier years
my body tells a different story
aches that crept up
sorry ma'am but you have
a little arthritis from
old injuries
so now what
go about your business
with tender care
here is your prescription
don't over do it
eat a balanced meal
exercise moderately
keep that twinkle in your eyes.~~lorilynn

ALL WOMAN
lorilynn Oct 2010
there upon the antique mahogany dresser
sit crystal bottles in every shape
squares, oblongs, round, rectangles
filled with liquid of ambers
greens yellows and clear
intoxicating fragrances
of musks lilies and jasmine
clearing the passageways
evoking a stupor of exhilarating senses
heightened to ecstasy
he presses his lips behind her ears
she is all woman
she is his.~~lorilynn

WHAT I SEE part 2
lorilynn Oct 2010
i am often mystified
when i see a painting
one dimensional canvas
capturing the subject
long before the days
of cameras
i am often piqued
when i look at the portraits
sitting very astute and poised
or rather smug and pompous
wearing swathes of fabric
medals of valor on his dressing
his long jet black curly hair
loose upon his collar
proudly displaying his sword
i am often intrigued
with his prize
sitting beside him
draped in rich hues of velvet
drowning in pearls and rubies
with a matching tiara upon
her coiffed auburn hair
her delicate porcelain hands
folded under the lace sleeves
holding her silk fan
i am often bemused
with the expression
on the blemish free complexion
ruddy cheeks hiding
their naughty flush
with gleam in their eyes
not a care in the world
except to bet
upcoming competition
who is the best dueler
a grand feast to follow
i have often wondered
what it would be like to live
in the days before the camera
to encapsulate every nuance.~~lorilynn

WHAT I SEE
lorilynn Oct 2010
when i see a painting
it speaks to me
for i am in union
with the one
looking back at me
i feel every fiber
seeing the sparkle
come alive
in the azure eyes
that speak of wisdom
as it sees the glint
in my eyes
we understand each other
when in each other's presence
we speak in silence
looking with approval
she reaches out
with her weathered hands
from working the fields
feeding her cattle
i see the life
behind the demure smile
or the subtle sadness
that cannot be hidden
all that matters
is that we are one.~~lorilynn

MENTAL WORK
lorilynn Oct 2010
peacemaking is rewarding
when all agree to agree
even they say it is ok
to disagree and agree
to disagree
what is the point
of disagreeing when
we can agree on
agreeing to disagree
why does everything
have to be so complicated
when it is much easier
to just be simple and
not convoluted
it must be the mind
is a complicated thing
since the mind really
isn't that simple.~~lorilynn

why can't we all get along
and spread the love around
friends friends friends
i love you as my own
life is too short
don't we have enough
trouble as it is
with people fighting
killing each other
blowing themselves up
thinking they are making a stand
when all it is
is dissension in the making.

SECLUDED DOMES
lorilynn Sep 2010
there sits secrecy above
my mind’s private mountain.
the domes proudly *****
displaying friendly aubergine
flags atop the spires.
welcome, come one come all.

a world unto its own
with striped colored domes;
ruby, jade, sapphire, gold
running circular with no end.

the way to odyssey is by
the plume vessel that treks
afar the healing sparkled waters
only to bring the lost and the
ones who already know
to the land of euphoria.

upon entering the black and white
checkered entrance
transformation in motion.
hear the lovely bells and chimes
accompanying the chorus
the gregorian chant.

you have come to the place
never to leave the same
amassing great blessings.~~lorilynn

ALL THE PLAYERS
lorilynn Sep 2010
if only the characters
in the book could speak.
they have been morphed
into roles forced upon them.
attaching themselves to the reader
flipping through sheaves
of ivory paper and gold typesetting.
the characters waiting to open
the soft leather bound cover
giving them light and hope
they jump off the pages
with life breathed onto them
marching across the pages
giving a picture show
that which is expressed
as we cross through the lines.~~lorilynn

BIG AND SMALL PACKAGES

life comes in packages
shop for favorite things
rain scented candles
rose colored flowers to set on the table
matching new lipstick
to pucker her lips
over her scrumptious dinner
talk about things to come

small packages so small
nothing fits but bare necessities
costing a penny to even get up
sacrifices made just staying put
the best to be had
a nudge from the cat
counting your blessings for
there are those less fortunate
deep down you know
that to be true.~~lorilynn

doesn't appear to be

which becomes
your center
the grandfather clock
is chiming on the hour

everybody has

else in between.~~lorilynn

SAYING SORRY
lorilynn Sep 2010
sorry doesn't cut it
alright, what i meant to say
i didn't mean any of it
it just came out that way
sorry is a word with memory
even if we are to
forgive and forget
then maybe sorry
never should have
been invented
it gets stuck
between forgive and forget
maybe if we can
forget to forgive and
there was no word as sorry
we lived in a perfect world
that is not true either
we do need sorry
in an imperfect world
did i tell you i am sorry
sorry for what
sorry for everything.~~lorilynn

ALL THE PRETTY HORSES
lorilynn Sep 2010
look at all the pretty horses
they go around and around
adorned with silk ribbons
in colors of the rainbow
weaved through their manes

their painted hooves
in gold leaf shimmer
careful not to touch the ground
riding up and down
in complete synergy
with the jeweled poles.

the children squealing with joy
who has the prettiest horse
couples in a world of their own
she sits delicately like a
lady riding sideways

the gent’s heart going pitter patter
looks questioningly into her
eyes that speak of mystery
is she the one who
will come back with his children
to ride the pretty horses
life goes around and around.

all the pretty horses have seen
the same story in a time capsule
but with different faces.
life is a merry go round
with its sparkling lights
shining upon the stage.~~lorilynn

A PAST WITHOUT A FACE
lorilynn Sep 2010
the english tudor home
my face of who i
was suppose to become.

the chambermaid makes my bed
but dad, “i want to make my own bed”.
mother doesn’t understand

“i don’t know where this
child comes from but she isn’t mine”;
not to relish in the riches of glitz
and diamond chandeliers.

this is your life not mine
i am just a puppet of your image
it is not mine to own.

here little girl we give you
a pony, don’t you like that?
that maybe the only thing i like
he is the only one who
knows what love is.

dinner is served madame.
i don’t want to sit in the
24 seated mahogany table
i want macaroni and cheese
i will eat in the kitchen.

oh GOD, why can’t i have
an ozzie and harriet home?
oh you will someday.

the some day is my new
name and face to own.
surely you can live like a
princess with humility

wear love around like a
wreath of baby's breath
atop my head
not behind
a mask of a painted doll.~~lorilynn

WHO SAYS I CAN'T
lorilynn Sep 2010
who says i can't bow
to my FATHER who
art thou in heaven

when i write about
marmalade trees and
stargazing skies

he knows everything i
am going to write even
before i dip my quill pen
in ink to rice paper

would he rather see
a happy child playing
make believe with
her imaginary friend
eating candy apples

than see man worshiping
money for his own lust
manipulating with a
deck of black cards

FATHER who art thou
in heaven, maybe my
station in heaven will
be decorating your
mansions in homespun
ivory silk puffs
sit and watch the children play

we feast on fine wines
and fruits not yet known
we listen to the harp and
the flute while the
children do somersaults

FATHER who are thou in heaven
you gave us choices to rejoice
in colors, scents and sounds

or the man in the dark pin striped
suits manipulating humankind
with a full deck of black cards

i am just blessed
i can sit with you
by my side and write
about marmalade trees
and gold stardust skies.~~lorilynn

MY WORLD
lorilynn Sep 2010
my world has many colors like the prism;
the blue hues of glistening waters of greece
against the white stucco adobes.
dancing tap shoes of flamencos
while visiting in spain.
autumn hues of russian reds, gold, cobalt, greens, oranges and black co-mingling.
asian tastes of polynesian spices in the philippines.
safaris in africa witnessing the awesomeness
of massive mammals.
sophistication from the streets of champ elysees, sipping cappuccino
and i will have some creme brulee please.
or perhaps go to italy and sit on the spanish steps
with a cup of expresso. i will take along a cannoli
and count the steps.
while back at home reminiscing over a cup of joe
with a friend in tucson arizona.
after exchanging our love for art
i will read my mail from friends afar;
the outback to talk about the love
pocketed in the kangaroo’s pouch and discover
new zealand, the unfamiliar territory.
we share our secrets who have been there.
reading beautiful poetry like never before.
all the while being reminded
i have been blessed by the HOLY ONE.
you see my friends, my world has forever changed
since i have met all of you.
getting up each day having my coffee
welcoming me to another day with my friends
from the east, west, north and south.
upon dusk we say so long, see you soon.~~by lorilynn

looking up at the smiling opal moon with his crown

feel the embalming
night caress us into a state
