Take Care of Mama
Larry B Apr 2010
In the shadows of an empty church
A little child is kneeling
She prays for God to take away
The pain her mother is feeling

Torn between, her mother's love
And the mercy to let her die
She prays the end comes quickly
And the suffering pass her by

A child of only ten years old
With a heart, already grown
She's seen the pain and suffering
That most have never known

Her mother, stricken with cancer
And her, an only child
The product of a broken marriage
Her hopes and dreams defiled

She sits beside her mother's bed
Holding her weakened hand
Binding her tears, trying to be brave
Too young to understand

Her prayers are finally answered
Her mother passes away
All alone, she kneels once more
And again, begins to pray

She says, "Dear Lord take care of mama"
As she sits in the empty room
"Tell mama that I'm gonna miss her,
"And that I will see her soon"

Where the Children Play
Larry B May 2010
A building was built in nineteen-ten
A place for the children to learn
Once filled with laughter, now the everafter
This schoolhouse would suddenly burn

Twenty-one souls, were lost that day
When the schoolhouse burned to the ground
A nightmarish cost, everyone was lost
A bible, the only thing found

A school once more, raised from the ashes
But later, turned into a home
With visions and dreams, of bloodcurdling screams
And oasis, for spirits to roam

Ghostly apparitions, now wander these rooms
Trying to escape from the flames
Trapped in this hell, their spirits now dwell
While calling their mothers names

Each night they play their childish games
Destined, to relive that day
Ever changing shape, while trying to escape
This place, where the children play

Field of Stone
Larry B Apr 2010
She tries to remember
His voice as she cries
Reflections of him
Can be seen in her eyes

Her memories betray her
With each passing day
Her smile, now broken
Has faded away

Her reason for living
Escapes her mind
She looks for a future
But none will she find

Her lover now sleeps
In a field of stone
As she's cursed to walk
This world alone

Broken

Everytime I think of you
Something starts to break
First, my broken heart
What else will you take?

Next, it was my smile
I don't use it anymore
I've already forgotten
What I need it for

Then you took my breath
The air I need to breathe
It took all the breath I had
To beg you not to leave

You took my very soul
The minute you said goodbye
You even stole my tears
For I no longer cry

Now I fall to pieces
Each time your name is spoken
I'm just an empty shell
Nothing more than Broken

The Poet's Prayer
Larry B Sep 2010
Oh poet with your words so pure
Guide me with your lyrical tour
Touch my heart from deep within
Free my soul from binding sin

Lift me up above my pain
Wipe away this wretched stain
Cast your spell in magical verse
And free me from this hollow curse

Tempt me with your mornful cry
Let not this meaning pass me by
Lead me with your skillful hand
Entice me till I understand

Write your burden upon my mind
Open these eyes that once were blind
Let me share your liquid pain
As teardrops fall like endless rain

Teach me poet, all of your ways
And guide me through your heartfelt maze
May God bless all the words we share
As we recite this poet's prayer

Book of Love
Larry B Feb 2011
He glued down all of her pictures
And wrote the dates upon the side
In order, when they were taken
Of his lovely, blushing bride

Then he taped the old love letters
He'd written, when they first met
Then sprayed it with her perfume
A smell, he couldn't forget

He pressed a rose inside his book
To remind him of her smile
Then he put in all the valentines
He was able to compile

He taped down both their wedding bands
A promise, he'd planned to keep
He loved her 'til the day she died
This love he carried so deep

As he fumbles through the pages
He thanks the Lord above
On its binding he writes with tear stained eyes
This is our Book of Love

I Marvel
Larry B Oct 2010
Each breath I take, I marvel
Yet one more day of pain
A wounded heart now broken
And only pieces still remain

A distant wind still echoes
The memories from the past
Forever haunted, I stand alone
How much longer can this last?

My soul is now an empty shell
It's hollow, to the core
You left this world before your time
Your spirit, made to soar

I've numbered all my sorrows
With every tear I've cried
I bless the day that you were born
And curse, the day you died

Your name has become my heartache
Each time I hear it spoken
It cripples me from the inside out
And leaves me weak and broken

And tho I walk this world alone
You will not leave my side
You'll always be my one true love
My one, and only bride

The Journey
Larry B Apr 2011
Time starts ticking the day that we're born
Today becomes tomorrow's past
Yesterday is just a forgotten memory
That's fading away too fast

Everyday when the sun starts to set
We draw closer to the grave
Death keeps calling us, every hour
'Til we become his slave

When we are young, we live forever
Living life to the fullest, we're bold
But one day soon time comes to collect
Then the grave awaits, we're old

Looking back and counting our blessings
We curse the things that we've lost
For time doesn't care who we were
And all must pay the cost

Our life is only an echo in time
Destined to disappear
From birth to the grave, then we're gone
It's like we were never here

For everyone has a beginning
And soon, we all have an end
The beginning and end barely matter
It's the journey, we have to defend

Scattered Leaves
Larry B Apr 2010
Beneath the autumn leaves lies a secret
Buried, underneath an old oak tree
A woman, for some time, gone missing
Now, just part of the scenery

A child of seventeen years, now silent
No marker, to show where she lay
She's been gone now, for more than a season
A sad story always ends this way

She cries out from her grave of sorrows
That one day, her body might be found
A rose decorates her shallow grave
With scattered leaves blowing on the ground

A victim of a crime, with no witness
Just another drug deal gone bad
She was only passing by when it happened
But she saw things, she probably shouldn't had

So if you're ever passing by an oak tree
And underneath, you see a single rose
Remember what's beneath the scattered leaves
A secret, where a single flower grows

The Illusion
Larry B Apr 2010
Sometimes it's impossible
No matter what you do
To find the right words
You just haven't a clue

The words are elusive
And remain out of sight
With no sure direction
Not knowing what to write

The pen meets the paper
Like two strangers afar
The poet's the director
His work is the star

The silence is deafening
As your thoughts tumble in
Not knowing the ending
Or where to begin

You peer out your window
With anticipation
Void of ideas
Or divine inspiration

The writer is sidetracked
With the slightest intrusion
And this great work of art
Has become an illusion

Waiting
Larry B Jul 2010
I keep waiting for the door to open
And for you to walk back in
I can't tell you how bad I've missed you
And how lonely I have been

Waiting to see that beautiful smile
That highlights your sweet face
Waiting to hear your tender voice
That warms this cold, cold place

Waiting to feel your heartbeat
As you lay close by my side
Waiting to know your soft caress
That comes from deep inside

Waiting to touch your hair of silk
Woven on Heaven's loom
Waiting to wipe away your tears
And smell your sweet perfume

Waiting til the day I die
And draw this life's last breath
Waiting till we meet again
And we're joined together in death

The night before the heartbreak
Nothing seems out of place
No signs of any betrayal
No hints upon their face

No empty rooms, filled with tears
The pillows, free from stain
No echo from a single heart
For it's two that still remain

No sad songs on the radio
No reasons for regret
Their name still on the telephone
No numbers to forget

No promises ever broken
For nothing seems amiss
No one ever says goodbye
No final farewell kiss

No reason to remember them
No pain to diagnose
The night before the heartbreak
Is the time that hurts the most

Destiny
Larry B Oct 2010
Has anyone seen my destiny?
Some might call it fate
The future me, I long to see
And I don't want to wait

Who will I be tomorrow?
Will I see things differently?
Or on that day, am I sorry to say,
I'm someone I don't want to be?

Where's that magic mirror,
That knows of future things?
Will it show, what I want to know,
Of what tomorrow brings?

Will I be a man of honor?
Which path should I choose?
Will I roll the dice once or twice,
And soon find out I lose?

Has anyone seen my destiny?
Show me which road it takes
Will I choose to change and rearrange,
And learn from my mistakes?

The Noise
Larry B Dec 2010
It happened on a snowy night
Not very long ago
My wife and I were sleeping
But I was tossing to and fro

We awaken to an awful noise
One we'd never heard before
The sound of it was frightful
And I knew I had to explore

It wasn't in the closet
Or the kitchen where we eat
It wasn't the dog for he was there
Cowering at our feet

It wasn't in the attic
For no footsteps were heard at all
I picked up my Louisville slugger
As I wandered down the hall

It wasn't in the living room
Or on the bathroom floor
I crept downstairs with bat in hand
As I opened the basement door

Each step would seem like hours
As I quietly held my breath
One mistake could bring me closer
To a most untimely death

I fumbled with the light switch
Anticipation filled the air
The moment of truth had finally come
To see what monster was there

Now that I have your attention
I hope you're ready to scream
For none of this really happened
It was only just a dream

I'm sorry about the ending
But you really should have known
This is the kind of poems I write
Whenever I'm alone

This melancholy spirit
Fills my soul with pain

Lost I wander aimlessly
I know not where I go
My prison bars are hopelessness
Freedom, I'll never know

Locked in total darkness
No hope to see the light
Just a forgotten memory
A spirit of the night

Not looking for a future
But praying for an end
One more day is way too long
In this hell I'm living in

I write these words in torment
A curse, I live each day
A poet's heart, forever dark
With only hate to say

I write no happy endings
Just pain and suffering
My blackend heart betrays my mind
With the words my pen must bring

One day soon I'll breathe my last
No loved ones here that cries
My torment here is over

It will not whisper your name
My heart says I'm unworthy

But my lips won't let me smile
Tempted by your heavenly beauty
But captive, to denial

My dreams, filled with your vision
I dare not close my eyes
Everytime you pass me by
Another piece of me dies

I am but a simple man
And you, a goddess of desire
A treasure meant to intice my soul
That I shall never aquire

How much longer must I suffer
How long will my soul beseech
Alas, I turn and walk away
For you're simply out of reach

Fall's Allegiance
Larry B Nov 2010
Autumn leaves dance in the wind
As it's breath awakens the trees
The limbs tremble in defiance
As they try to resist the breeze

The trees shiver in the cool morning air
As the dew gives way to the frost
They know their armor will soon be gone
For all of their leaves will be lost

Winter stands ready to enter the stage
And for Autumn to relinquish it's hold
It's time for Winter to abandon it's slumber
And Autumn must welcome the cold

Winter demands Fall's allegiance
Like a General shouting commands
Autumn must follow it's orders
For the time of change is at hand

Winter's cold winds show restraint
As Autumn surrenders in shame
The trees bow in silence
With only Winter to blame

Winter takes it's rightful place
'Til Spring revenges Fall's death
But Winter will battle until the end
'Til it breathes it's final  breath

In the darkness there are places
That no one's ever seen
Guarded by a wicked one
A kind of devilish fiend

He rejoices over heartaches
And revels in our cries
He causes pain I can't explain
With love as his disguise

He catches all our teardrops
And brews them into tea
He drinks it with our broken dreams
That keep him company

He mocks us when we cannot sleep
In dark and lonely places
He reminds us of the love we lost
And shows us all their faces

Wayward hope become his teeth
To chew our broken smiles
He decorates his domicile
With all our pain filled files

In the darkness there are places
You will never wanna see
Guarded by a wicked one

To get me through each day
My heart no longer, thirsts for life
Each second, it starts to decay

My soul, now wandering aimlessly
Loneliness, my only friend
A shadow, in a world filled with light
Waiting, for death to descend

Whispering winds, keep calling your name
Leading me to and fro
Seeking for solace, in a world of despair
Not knowing which way to go

Broken, I stumble, from place to place
Cursing this prison called life
Patiently waiting, for the angel's return

Embraced by the silence that pierces my soul
My shadow, my only friend
Aimlessly I wander this barren place
Not knowing where my path might end

My scars are the burdens that weigh me down
A silent reminder of pain
My reason for living remains out of sight
Too broken to ever complain

The winds often whisper my name in the night
I follow where ever it leads
The darkness inhales my will to survive
Ignoring my wants or my needs

These walls of destiny impede my view
My judgement now cloudy and tired
The decisions I make are the product of fate
A reason, no longer required

My future is hollow, its echo unclear
As I stumble back into the night
No promises made, my hope held captive
I pray, that I soon find the light

No where to turn, no where to hide
I write to set my soul free
These voices unclear I follow a ghost

I've never seen the rain so clear
As I do when it floods her eyes
I feel the pain she's going thru
Each time my little girl cries

How do I tell her that she's dying,
That her hero can't save the day?
Some kind of hero I turned out to be
I can't even say "It's okay"

Death is something she don't understand
I don't think anybody really does
She keeps asking me, "Will it be over soon?",
And, "I want it to be like it was"

What do I tell her when she asks me this?
I just hold her hand and smile
I say, "Don't worry sunshine, I know it hurts,
It will all be over in a while"

There's nothing worse than losing a child
It will tear your world apart
She says, "Thank you daddy, for being the hero,
That I carry inside of my heart"

As she utters those final words of love
She quietly closes her eyes
I gently kiss her on top of her head
As a piece of her hero dies

I don't have to think too much
Cause my wife is always right

Even on my wedding day
Before I could say I do

So, I kinda thought so too

Now I never make decisions
Ain't that right dear?
See?, what'd I tell you?
Did everybody hear?

Now, my wife says, I'm not henpecked
If that's what your thinkin'
And, no, there's no chain around my ankle
So, just ignore the clinkin'

She says, if I will make the money
Then she'll make sure it's spent
The only money I ever keep
Is what I have to pay her for rent

Now, I know ya'll think I'm stupid
Well, that just simply isn't true
My wife says I'm a genius
With a perfect ten I.Q.

Now, my wife is the one with the brains
She tells me so, all the time
I know that she loves me too
Cause, she tells me, I'm one of a kind

Well, she says it's time to end this poem
So I guess I better go
And I still know what you're thinking
It's not because she told me so

In a very small village in eighteen ten
A ritual took place of sorts
A woman would dance on top of the graves
In order to bring back a corpse

Some people called her the grave dancer
For her purpose was dancing on graves
When a loved one would die no one would cry
For she turned all the dead into slaves

Though they were mindless and decaying
The people just wanted them near
While this witch was alive the dead ones would thrive
She said there was nothing to fear

Then one morning a woman lost her husband
They buried him later that night
They went to the dancer but fell short of an answer
Cause the woman was no where in sight

Then the dead started eating their children
The people of the village were shaken
With the children now gone it wouldn't be long
Til the rest of the people were taken

In another small village in eighteen twelve

A woman would dance on top of the graves

Dying Words

By the time you read this, I will be gone
I will simply no longer exist
I'm using the last words you said to me
To drain the blood from my wrists

Your words cut through me like a suicide knife
Like the very sharp edge of goodbye
"I'm sorry" will not stop the bleeding
Nor will the tears that you cry

You filled my veins with your poison
With promises, that you didn't keep
You pierced my heart with all of your lies
The scars, I carry so deep

So how do you know when it's over?
When you given them all you can give
The tears that I cry are shaped like goodbye
With no longer a will to live

I never knew that words could ****
But today I no longer exist
The ways that I died are all trapped inside
And are simply too many to list

The Riddle
Larry B Apr 2010
Here is a riddle to figure out
Try to read between the lines
I'll give you clues throughout the poem
That will only be written in rhymes

I'm always seen at Christmas
Some people think I'm great
I'm known for peeking your interest
But I'll always make you wait

The day before your wedding
And I'm never far away
You just can't wait till it gets here
But I'll make it your longest day

I'm always at the hospital
When all the children are born
And the night they're saying trick or treat
As all the costumes are worn

Well, have you figured it out yet?
Can you tell me who I am?
For I've given you all the possible clues
That I absolutely can

For some people I've even been known
To give a slight tingling sensation
I know you can't wait for the answer
For I'm simply, anticipation

Prisons
Larry B Apr 2010
Prisons come in many forms
Some just don't have bars
Even the moon sits in prison
As it's guarded by the stars

Prison can be a broken heart
Not knowing which way to turn
Forgetting how to love again
Or maybe not willing to learn

Your prison can be your loneliness
As the silence tortures your mind
Waiting for that someone
Who you'll probably never find

Prison can be that secret
That you promised not to tell
Hiding your face from all who ask
Like a turtle in his shell

Prison can be your coffin
As you take your final breath
As they lower you in that lonesome grave
Your prison becomes your death

Silent Storm ( Sonnet )
Larry B Oct 2010
Silent whispers on a cold winter's day
Snowflakes dancing, as the wind makes them sway
The clouds hide the sun from watching their dance
He tries to peek through to give them a glance

The sparrows perched high on limbs trimmed in white
Watching the snowflakes, in awe of the sight
A rainbow appears and touches the ground
The snow keeps falling, not making a sound

A blanket of white now cover the trees
Its leaves long forgotten, lost to the breeze
The sound of laughter echoes through the field
Children playing, their wonderland revealed

The clouds relent, and give way to the sun
The storm is over, the melting's begun

Someone's Son
Larry B Nov 2010
Somewhere on a battlefield
A man lays hurt and dying
While a million miles away
A mother is somewhere crying

Just one more day in hell
Where someone gave his life
His children, without a father
A widow for his wife

Asked to serve his country
In a far and distant land
Giving all he had to give
Then, dying in the sand

Hero's are born and never made
Just doing what is right
And in his darkest hour
His fear becomes his light

To some he's just a number
Not knowing the things he's done
But to me he's much more than that
To me he's someone's son

Voices
Larry B Mar 2011
No one knows where the wind comes from
But we see can it in the trees
There's nothing there we can touch or hold
But we can feel its gentle breeze

The wind is made of voices
Just whispers in the night
From those who've long since passed away
Reaching, for the light

It sometimes comes in a sweet caress
From lovers who have died
A gentle kiss upon our cheeks
From a husband or a bride

A melancholy wind will sometimes blow
A whisper of the past
From broken hearts who've died alone
A love that didn't last

We sometimes feel that angry wind
A lost and tortured soul
Cursed to shout in a whispered voice
That time cannot console

So when you feel that warm spring breeze
Listen close and you will hear
The wind is made of whispering souls
From voices, no longer here

Kiss of Death
Larry B Jan 2011
She traces her finger along his lips
And smiles with satisfaction
The poison leaves him paralyzed
Just another fatal attraction

She lures them in with her beauty
And keeps them with her kiss
She looks for those who no one knows
A stranger they wouldn't miss

A female Jack the Ripper
But no one knows her name
A hollow soul with a morbid goal
Who plays a deadly game

A widow of sorts with ice in her veins
And all of your money she'll steal
And when she's through I pity you
There's nothing left but to ****

One eye is green the other is blue
So beware of the women you date
I'll tell you this with only one kiss
It will forever be too late

I'm sorry dear, what do you mean?
And why do you have that knife?
No, sweatheart, I didn't mean you
It just sounds like I mean my wife

The Artist
Larry B Nov 2010
He paitently paints the flowers
At the beginning of each day
His touch supplies the beauty
That makes them look that way

He colors every rainbow
Then hangs them in the sky
And brightens up the sunshine
As morning's drawing nigh

He shines the moon and stars
To keep them burning bright
He ready's them for the darkness
To cast His guiding light

His brush creates the ripples
On the rivers and the lakes
He seeks to paint perfection
No matter what it takes

The world has been His canvas
From the moment time began
And we become His Masterpiece
When in the Father's Hand

The Poet's Pain
Larry B Feb 2011
She writes with pure emotion
'Til her words begin to weep
She tries to free her soul from pain
But the hurt is just too deep

Each breath she takes she hesitates
Thinking it might be her last
Her mind betrays her future thoughts
While dwelling in the past

Her tears become the poet's ink
As she writes her heartache free
A stain becomes her work of art
Her quill, her misery

Her words become too heavy
Her will is much too weak
Her hands begin to quiver and shake
And her lips refuse to speak

She writes untill her heartache's gone
And her tears no longer remain
The last thing she does is name her feelings
It'a called, The Poet's Pain

Death
Larry B Apr 2010
How many beats does a heart have?
How many breaths can we take?
How many times can we open our eyes
Before something begins to break

Who has all these answers?
No one here on earth
Our lives become a mystery
From the moment of our birth

Each day that we get older
Is one day closer to death
The angel of death is counting
The numbers until our last breath

The things that we take for granted
Are the things that we need to live
How much blood can our bodies lose
Before it has no more to give

Not that any of this matters
For it's out of our control
When it's time to say goodbye
None will ever know

Standing in Line
Larry B Nov 2010
We stand in line the day we're born
While waiting to see the earth
We stand in  line to stand in line
While learning of our worth

We stand in line for heartache
Whenever it's our turn
We stand in line to seek the truth
While trying our best to learn

We stand in line to say goodbye
When someone passes away
We stand in line to welcome love
While trying not to stray

We stand in line to see the future
While standing in line to die
We stand in line for answers
While never questioning why

We stand in line to see Heaven
While standing at the gate
We stand in line to leave this world
While learning how to wait
