Broken

Everytime I think of you
Something starts to break
First, my broken heart
What else will you take?

Next, it was my smile
I don't use it anymore
I've already forgotten
What I need it for

Then you took my breath
The air I need to breathe
It took all the breath I had
To beg you not to leave

You took my very soul
The minute you said goodbye
You even stole my tears
For I no longer cry

Now I fall to pieces
Each time your name is spoken
I'm just an empty shell
Nothing more than Broken

Have You Ever?
Larry B Apr 2010
Have you ever seen a sunrise
As it climbs above the trees
Or, maybe, when is finally sets
And melts into the seas?

Have you ever felt the wind blow
As it's whispers thru your hair?
A force of nature we can't see
But yet, we know, it's there

Have you ever felt a raindrop
As it's rolling down your cheek
Or hear the sound the water makes
As it's running thru a creek?

Have you ever seen the lightning
As it lights the darkened skies
Or watch an eagle spread his wings
And wonder how he flies?

Have you ever heard the thunder
As it sounds it's mighty roar?
Never wondering even once
Is there something more?

Have you ever watched a snowflake
As it tumbles to the ground?
Marveling at its silence
When it doesn't make a sound

Have you ever thought of Heaven
And maybe think it odd?
How can someone see these things
And not believe in God?

Paper Stains
Larry B May 2011
The words I write are best defined
As tiny pieces of soul
Trapped within my troubled mind
An ache I can't console

The memories and the heartaches
Dripping through my pen
Tell the stories of my mistakes
And regret I feel within

They will tell you who I am today
And what I used to be
They'll tell you all I have to say
If you'll look carefully

The words I write are lifetime earned
Through joy, strife and pain
Memories of the things I've learned
Are now my paper's stain

Where the Roses Bloom
Larry B Apr 2010
She looks out the window
From her old rocking chair
With wrinkles on her face
And gray in her hair

She talks about her roses
And, as she smiles, she'll say
"Those roses are pefect,
God made them that way"

"They're more than just flowers,
They're a symbol of love;
"A gift from on High
From the Father above"

"The thorns will remind us,
Of the pain that He bore;
"And its petals, the beauty
Of Heavens sweet shore"

"My time is near over,
I'll be leaving here soon;
"And I want you to bury me,
Where the roses bloom"

My grandmother showered us
In the love that she gave
And there's three dozen roses
That cover her grave

The Poet's Prayer
Larry B Sep 2010
Oh poet with your words so pure
Guide me with your lyrical tour
Touch my heart from deep within
Free my soul from binding sin

Lift me up above my pain
Wipe away this wretched stain
Cast your spell in magical verse
And free me from this hollow curse

Tempt me with your mornful cry
Let not this meaning pass me by
Lead me with your skillful hand
Entice me till I understand

Write your burden upon my mind
Open these eyes that once were blind
Let me share your liquid pain
As teardrops fall like endless rain

Teach me poet, all of your ways
And guide me through your heartfelt maze
May God bless all the words we share
As we recite this poet's prayer

Dark Places
Larry B Nov 2010
In the darkness there are places
That no one's ever seen
Guarded by a wicked one
A kind of devilish fiend

He rejoices over heartaches
And revels in our cries
He causes pain I can't explain
With love as his disguise

He catches all our teardrops
And brews them into tea
He drinks it with our broken dreams
That keep him company

He mocks us when we cannot sleep
In dark and lonely places
He reminds us of the love we lost
And shows us all their faces

Wayward hope become his teeth
To chew our broken smiles
He decorates his domicile
With all our pain filled files

In the darkness there are places
You will never wanna see
Guarded by a wicked one
Known as "Misery"

Feeding the Demons
Larry B Mar 2011
I must feed these demons that tear at my soul
For they hunger and thirst for my death
An offering of sorts, to appease and console
For they're lusting to covet my breath

The skin on my wrists begin to sigh
As the blade tries to comfort my veins
The death angel waits, he slowly draws nigh
Only a prayer for forgiveness remains

The demons rejoice in lieu of their prize
I can feel their claws holding tight
The darkness replaces the light in my eyes
I move farther away from the light

The floor turning crimson, the demons now drink
They grow drunk on this nectar of life
Death growing closer, he stands at the brink
And licks at the blood on my knife

The demons devour my last will to live
And mercy fades away like a mist
I gave them a gift that no man should give
Though I probably won't even be missed

The Hero
Larry B Nov 2010
I've never seen the rain so clear
As I do when it floods her eyes
I feel the pain she's going thru
Each time my little girl cries

How do I tell her that she's dying,
That her hero can't save the day?
Some kind of hero I turned out to be
I can't even say "It's okay"

Death is something she don't understand
I don't think anybody really does
She keeps asking me, "Will it be over soon?",
And, "I want it to be like it was"

What do I tell her when she asks me this?
I just hold her hand and smile
I say, "Don't worry sunshine, I know it hurts,
It will all be over in a while"

There's nothing worse than losing a child
It will tear your world apart
She says, "Thank you daddy, for being the hero,
That I carry inside of my heart"

As she utters those final words of love
She quietly closes her eyes
I gently kiss her on top of her head
As a piece of her hero dies

I keep waiting for the door to open
And for you to walk back in
I can't tell you how bad I've missed you
And how lonely I have been

Waiting to see that beautiful smile
That highlights your sweet face
Waiting to hear your tender voice
That warms this cold, cold place

Waiting to feel your heartbeat
As you lay close by my side
Waiting to know your soft caress
That comes from deep inside

Waiting to touch your hair of silk
Woven on Heaven's loom
Waiting to wipe away your tears
And smell your sweet perfume

Waiting til the day I die
And draw this life's last breath
Waiting till we meet again
And we're joined together in death

Poe's Destiny
Larry B Jan 2011
Embraced by the silence that pierces my soul
My shadow, my only friend
Aimlessly I wander this barren place
Not knowing where my path might end

My scars are the burdens that weigh me down
A silent reminder of pain
My reason for living remains out of sight
Too broken to ever complain

The winds often whisper my name in the night
I follow where ever it leads
The darkness inhales my will to survive
Ignoring my wants or my needs

These walls of destiny impede my view
My judgement now cloudy and tired
The decisions I make are the product of fate
A reason, no longer required

My future is hollow, its echo unclear
As I stumble back into the night
No promises made, my hope held captive
I pray, that I soon find the light

No where to turn, no where to hide
I write to set my soul free
These voices unclear I follow a ghost
This shadow called destiny

With each passing day

But none will she find

Her lover now sleeps

My heart is a garden paradise
In a world that was made for love
You truly are my soul mate
Ordained from Heaven above

I've never known of temptation
You satisfy my every lure
Never before, in the history of time
Was there ever a love this pure

The serpent may try to beguile me
But I will not look his way
You hold my heart, in the palm of your hand
And I will not go astray

A love like this is never ending
And this, I truly believe
I'll love you til, the day that I die

A mother and daughter
In the alley tonight
Huddle by a trash can
That offers them light

It renders them heat
As they try to stay warm
With no place to go
In the cold winter storm

The daughter only five
With no Santa this year
But she doesn't complain
As she sheds just one tear

The shelters are full
On this night, Christmas Eve
Her father, abusive
And forced them to leave

Like the Babe in the manger
With no room at the Inn
There's no one who cared enough
To let them come in

They didn't speak a word
As the held each other tight
Alone in the snow
On this silent night

And wrote the dates upon the side
In order, when they were taken
Of his lovely, blushing bride

Then he taped the old love letters
He'd written, when they first met
Then sprayed it with her perfume
A smell, he couldn't forget

He pressed a rose inside his book
To remind him of her smile
Then he put in all the valentines
He was able to compile

He taped down both their wedding bands
A promise, he'd planned to keep
He loved her 'til the day she died
This love he carried so deep

As he fumbles through the pages
He thanks the Lord above
On its binding he writes with tear stained eyes

The Grave Dancer
Larry B Jul 2010
In a very small village in eighteen ten
A ritual took place of sorts
A woman would dance on top of the graves
In order to bring back a corpse

Some people called her the grave dancer
For her purpose was dancing on graves
When a loved one would die no one would cry
For she turned all the dead into slaves

Though they were mindless and decaying
The people just wanted them near
While this witch was alive the dead ones would thrive
She said there was nothing to fear

Then one morning a woman lost her husband
They buried him later that night
They went to the dancer but fell short of an answer
Cause the woman was no where in sight

Then the dead started eating their children
The people of the village were shaken
With the children now gone it wouldn't be long
Til the rest of the people were taken

In another small village in eighteen twelve
A ritual took place of sorts
A woman would dance on top of the graves
In order to bring back a corpse

As their fragrance fills the air
For spring has given notice
But winter will not despair

Winter will not be broken
As it fights with it's last breath
But spring's warm winds are endless

But it's really much more than this
The essence of anticipation
A touch of Heavenly bliss

It's time to shine is fleeting
As it labors to greet the light
It's name proclaims it's majesty
As it sleeps thru out the night

That's so wrapped in mystery
Awakened by an angel's kiss

I have no place to turn
Surrounded by sorrows, I can't understand
My soul not able to yearn

What place is this my heart can't feel?
Is this hell or is this my grave?
The keeper is pain, of this dreadful place
And I have become his slave

The desire I've known is forever gone
I'm lost here without any reason
Complain though I might, no one will hear
For hope is a puppet to treason

Mistakes will follow me where ever I go
Reminding me of my past
My future is bleak, just out of reach
How long is this destined to last?

Memories here fade into darkness
Replaced with broken dreams
Smiles are lost to hopeless desires
Replaced with silent screams

Trapped in a void beyond my control
I wonder, when did this start?
It happened the day when you said goodbye
The day, that you broke my heart

The day you died I ceased to exist
For that's when time was suspended

To get me through each day
My heart no longer, thirsts for life
Each second, it starts to decay

My soul, now wandering aimlessly
Loneliness, my only friend
A shadow, in a world filled with light
Waiting, for death to descend

Whispering winds, keep calling your name
Leading me to and fro
Seeking for solace, in a world of despair
Not knowing which way to go

Broken, I stumble, from place to place
Cursing this prison called life
Patiently waiting, for the angel's return
To reunite me with you, my wife

The night before the heartbreak
Nothing seems out of place
No signs of any betrayal
No hints upon their face

No empty rooms, filled with tears
The pillows, free from stain
No echo from a single heart
For it's two that still remain

No sad songs on the radio
No reasons for regret
Their name still on the telephone
No numbers to forget

No promises ever broken
For nothing seems amiss
No one ever says goodbye
No final farewell kiss

No reason to remember them
No pain to diagnose

The Genius

Well, I've never been accused
Of ever being too bright
I don't have to think too much
Cause my wife is always right

Even on my wedding day
Before I could say I do
My wife done said, "You Better"
So, I kinda thought so too

Now I never make decisions
Ain't that right dear?
See?, what'd I tell you?
Did everybody hear?

Now, my wife says, I'm not henpecked
If that's what your thinkin'
And, no, there's no chain around my ankle
So, just ignore the clinkin'

She says, if I will make the money
Then she'll make sure it's spent
The only money I ever keep
Is what I have to pay her for rent

Now, I know ya'll think I'm stupid
Well, that just simply isn't true
My wife says I'm a genius
With a perfect ten I.Q.

Now, my wife is the one with the brains
She tells me so, all the time
I know that she loves me too
Cause, she tells me, I'm one of a kind

Well, she says it's time to end this poem
So I guess I better go
And I still know what you're thinking
It's not because she told me so

And I'm never far away
You just can't wait till it gets here
But I'll make it your longest day

When all the children are born
And the night they're saying trick or treat
As all the costumes are worn

Well, have you figured it out yet?
Can you tell me who I am?
For I've given you all the possible clues
That I absolutely can

How long will my soul beseech

Afraid of the dark

Time starts ticking the day that we're born
Today becomes tomorrow's past
Yesterday is just a forgotten memory
That's fading away too fast

Everyday when the sun starts to set
We draw closer to the grave
Death keeps calling us, every hour
'Til we become his slave

When we are young, we live forever
Living life to the fullest, we're bold
But one day soon time comes to collect
Then the grave awaits, we're old

Looking back and counting our blessings
We curse the things that we've lost
For time doesn't care who we were
And all must pay the cost

Our life is only an echo in time
Destined to disappear
From birth to the grave, then we're gone
It's like we were never here

For everyone has a beginning
And soon, we all have an end
The beginning and end barely matter
It's the journey, we have to defend

The Noise

It happened on a snowy night
Not very long ago
My wife and I were sleeping
But I was tossing to and fro

We awaken to an awful noise
One we'd never heard before
The sound of it was frightful
And I knew I had to explore

It wasn't in the closet
Or the kitchen where we eat
It wasn't the dog for he was there
Cowering at our feet

It wasn't in the attic
For no footsteps were heard at all
I picked up my Louisville slugger
As I wandered down the hall

It wasn't in the living room
Or on the bathroom floor
I crept downstairs with bat in hand
As I opened the basement door

Each step would seem like hours
As I quietly held my breath
One mistake could bring me closer
To a most untimely death

I fumbled with the light switch
Anticipation filled the air
The moment of truth had finally come
To see what monster was there

Now that I have your attention
I hope you're ready to scream
For none of this really happened
It was only just a dream

I'm sorry about the ending
But you really should have known
This is the kind of poems I write
Whenever I'm alone

Fall's Allegiance
Larry B Nov 2010
Autumn leaves dance in the wind
As it's breath awakens the trees
The limbs tremble in defiance
As they try to resist the breeze

The trees shiver in the cool morning air
As the dew gives way to the frost
They know their armor will soon be gone
For all of their leaves will be lost

Winter stands ready to enter the stage
And for Autumn to relinquish it's hold
It's time for Winter to abandon it's slumber
And Autumn must welcome the cold

Winter demands Fall's allegiance
Like a General shouting commands
Autumn must follow it's orders
For the time of change is at hand

Winter's cold winds show restraint
As Autumn surrenders in shame
The trees bow in silence
With only Winter to blame

Winter takes it's rightful place
'Til Spring revenges Fall's death
But Winter will battle until the end
'Til it breathes it's final  breath

Hell
Larry B Apr 2010
In this pit of utter darkness
The day doesn't see the light
Encompassed by my agony
To my captors, joyous delight

Surrounded by constant weeping
And the sounds of grinding teeth
Their cries for mercy go unheard
With no hope for any relief

The living dead is what we're called
For there's no one here deceased
This torment will last forever
And the torture will only increase

Time here has no meaning
In this prison cell of sorrows
Forgiveness, now an illusion
No hope for more tomorrows

Hope is now a foreign word
Only spoken under our breath
Compassion here is futile
We can't even pray for death

Our sins have been recorded
And play back in our head
With our chances for forgiveness
But we still chose this, instead

This place is called, "Eternity"
Forever here, we'll dwell
Others say "The bottomless pit"
But this is simply Hell

Just Beautiful
Larry B Jul 2010
The most beautiful sight I've ever seen
Such beauty has never been found
I catch you staring back at me
But you never make a sound

Your eyes are like a crystal sea
So deep and full of love
I know for sure you're one of a kind
That was sent from Heaven above

Your smile can keep me hypnotized
I can stare at you for days
I can tell the world of your awesomeness
In a million different ways

I just can't seem to get anything done
Whenever you're in the room
My eyes won't let me look away
My purpose you consume

What would I do without you
My vision of perfection
My wife just told me to stop it
I've been staring at my own reflection

The Last Sunrise
Larry B Apr 2010
He wakes up early in the morning
Like it was any other day
He didn't sleep at all last night
He tried his best to pray

His mind just keeps on wandering
Back to his troubled past
And now the day of reckoning
Has finally come at last

Fifteen years he's waited
Knowing this day would come
It's time to pay for his sinful deeds
And the things that he has done

He watches the clock, as seconds pass
For time, is not his friend
With only fifteen more minutes to go
Til this life he knows will end

Fifteen years to contemplate
As he thought of his life of crime
Ten more minutes and it will all be over
For he's running out of time

He keeps praying that the phone will ring
But the call just doesn't come
Just five more minutes, left to breathe
And then it will all be done

They strap him to a cold, steel table
And administered his I.V.
They ask him if he has any last words
He said, "God has forgiven me"

He turns his head, with a final gasp
And quietly closes his eyes
He woke up early this morning
And he saw, his last sunrise

You Didn't Notice Me
Larry B Jan 2011
I hold my breath 'til you walk by
So you won't see my fear
My heartbeat screams your name each time
While hoping you will hear

My eyes meet yours in silent dance
Blinded by your fame
I listen close to every word
Praying you'll say my name

My body numb, I cannot move
Your shadow touches mine
I long to reach and take your hand
Please give me just one sign

My lips in fear, refuse to speak
A prisoner of my mind
My words betray me one by one
They're just too hard to find

You walk away, my breath relents
My blinded eyes can see
My lips scream out your name in vain
You didn't notice me

The Bubble
Larry B Dec 2010
Trapped inside this bubble
I wait for my heart to break
The sound will surely be deafening
That a broken heart will make

The sound must be like thunder
To all who's standing near
Even people miles away
Can probably even hear

I wonder if it feels like lightning,
As it crumbles into dust?
Little pieces of shattered dreams
And flakes, of broken trust

Why must I endure this pain,
When I've done nothing wrong?
Even now, I can feel it's tear
And I fear it won't be long

There's silence before every storm
As my tears begin to flow
Its grip is ever tightening
It will not let be go

This bubble I'm in, has finally burst
Those words have now been spoken
She called to say it's over
My heart, is simply broken

Someone's Son
Larry B Nov 2010
Somewhere on a battlefield
A man lays hurt and dying
While a million miles away
A mother is somewhere crying

Just one more day in hell
Where someone gave his life
His children, without a father
A widow for his wife

Asked to serve his country
In a far and distant land
Giving all he had to give
Then, dying in the sand

Hero's are born and never made
Just doing what is right
And in his darkest hour
His fear becomes his light

To some he's just a number
Not knowing the things he's done
But to me he's much more than that
To me he's someone's son

Echo in Time
Larry B Dec 2010
Time starts ticking the day we're born
Today is tomorrow's past
Yesterday is just a memory
That fades away too fast

Everyday when the sun sets low
We're closer to the grave
Death keeps calling every hour
'Til we become his slave

While we're young we live forever
Living life to the fullest, we're bold
But one day soon time starts to fly
Then the grave awaits, we're old

Looking back we count our blessings
And curse the things we've lost
For time doesn't care who we are
And we all must pay the cost

Our life is only an echo in time
Destined to disappear
From birth to death then we're gone
Like we were never here

The Christmas Present
Larry B Dec 2010
She sits by the fire 'til the flames go out
All alone in her rocking chair
Another Christmas Eve has come and gone
But no one seems to care

Her children, now grown with kids of their own
But they just don't visit anymore
Her husband passed away ten years ago
She couldn't know what life had in store

She tucks the blanket underneath her chin
As she rocks the night away
She closes her eyes and begins to dream
As the night turns into day

Awakened by a knock on her window pane
A little boy stands in the snow
She opens the door and invites him in
For he had no place to go

She sits him in her chair by the fireplace
To warm his frost-bitten feet
She goes to the kitchen to get some food
To offer him something to eat

The little boy smiles and says, "Thank you, Mam"
As he hands her an empty bowl
It warmed her heart to see him smile
And touched her very soul

They talked for what seemed like hours
'Til the little boy fell asleep
He stayed all night 'til the morning came
For the snow was just too deep

When the woman awoke the very next day
Where he went, she just didn't know
For he was gone before the sun came up
But there were'nt any tracks in the snow

The very next night she closed her eyes
And left this world behind
That's when Jesus took her by the hand
And said, "Thank You for being so kind"

"For I was the boy who had no shoes,
And you sit Me down by the fire,
You fed Me when I hungered so,
A gift I truly admire"

"I was a stranger on Christmas morning
With no place to lay my head,
You opened up your heart to Me,
And offered Me your bed"

"So Thank You for this Christmas present,
And Merry Christmas too,
Enter in My child well done,
For here's My gift to you"

Another Broken Smile
Larry B Mar 2010
Visions of the past
Devour my very soul
Hopes and dreams now void
Forever takes its toll

Memories that were cherished
Fade away like mist
Promises of the future
Forever now dismissed

Another broken smile
Takes its rightly place
With the tears of your rejection
That's streaming down my face

Forever now entombed
With misery and pain
Reminders of what could have been
Never to be obtained

Imprisioned by my sorrow
Haunted by my past
A love that wasn't meant to be
Was destined not to last
