Three Course Meal
Larry B Dec 2010
You've heard the story of Goldilocks
And the bears that chased her away
But now it's time to tell the truth
'Cause it didn't really happen that way

Goldilocks weighed four hundred pounds
She'd eat anything in sight
And It didn't matter what it was
She still had to have one bite

The whole town knew of her appetite
So they locked their food in storage
And that just left those poor little bears
Who was just trying to cool their porridge

Now she could smell food a mile away
For she had an amazing snout
But still she waited to make certain
Those bears had ventured out

She didn't just break one of those chairs
She actually broke all three
Remember, she weighed four hundred pounds,
And was as fat as she could be?

Well, she ate up all their porridge
And anything else she could find
Ofcourse that made her sleepy
With only one thing on her mind

She wandered into the bedroom
And broke each one of their beds
So she curled up on the floor to sleep
With three pillows under her head

While she slept, those bears came home
And they were as hungry as could be
Did I mention she broke the remote control
To the bear's big screen tv?

Anyway, the bears had finally had it
That's all that they could take
In their rage they didn't notice
That goldilocks was now awake

So they trapped her in the corner
And were poised for the attack
But goldilocks was still hungry
And was looking for a snack

Needless to say she ate those bears
I know this story seems crude
But I'm just trying to warn you
To make sure you hide your food

The Invisible Poem
Larry B Dec 2010
I'm writing this poem with invisible ink
And it's gonna disappear
You better read it as fast as you can
For soon it won't be here

You better have a photographic memory
To remember what it said
For before you know it, it's gonna be gone
And you won't know what you've read

Now the first two stanzas are fading fast
You better hurry and read it quick
Every minute counts with invisible ink
You can hear the seconds tick

I trying to warn you to read a little faster
And I hope everyone will listen
'Cause if you don't you're gonna find out
That part of this poem is missin'

Well, I'm finally finished, this poem is over
And I hope you made to the end
It didn't disappear like I said it would
But wasn't it fun to pretend?

The Fountain of Truth
Larry B Dec 2010
Well, when I started getting older
I decided to set out on a quest
I was gonna find that Fountain of Youth
Or, at least, I'd try my best

I stumbled across this forgotten village
Where only young people live
That's when I knew I'd found it
I was almost positive

I saw this beautiful stone fountain
Standing in the middle of the square
My journey was finally over
As I slowly walked over there

They had a tarnished silver dipper
That was hanging on a nail
Beside it was a old wooden bucket
And then, a golden pail

As I was reaching for the dipper
This little boy appeared
He said, "Careful you choose correctly"
And he suddenly disappeared

Now, I didn't know which one to choose
The wooden bucket or pail of gold
So I decided to drink a little of both
At least, I wouldn't grow old

And then a couple of hours later
I noticed, I wasn't looking too young
Then that little boy came back and said,
"Do you know what you have done?"

I answered, "Yes I do" before I thought
Though I really wanted to lie
I just couldn't make mysef do it
No matter how hard I'd try

"You have cheated," the little boy said
"Now you'll never find your youth
For by tasting both you've deceived yourself
And it became the Fountain of Truth?

So, needless to say, I really messed up
And I'm cursed for the rest of my life
Cause it doesn't matter how hard I try
I can never tell a lie to my wife

They'll be no more late night poker games
Or a night on the town with the guys
I've changed my name to honest Abe
For I can't tell no more lies

Now, the reason I wrote this story
Is, well, I really can't tell you why
I was gonna make a reason up
But, remember? I just can't tell a lie

Heart of Inspiration
Larry B Dec 2010
I wonder if Poe could have known
That his pain would bring him fame?
His words would become his legacy
So the world would know his name

Then there's "Romeo and Juliet"
A Shakespeare contribution
This was written centuries ago
But it's still in distribution

And what about this man named Frost
Known for "A Road Not Taken"
Did he know the fire he'd light inside?
Or the hunger that he'd awaken?

Then there's a man named Whitman
Known for "Song of Myself"
Did he know that these words he quietly penned,
Would be a treasure on someone's shelf?

And Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Said, "Let Me Count the Ways"
Did she understand these magical words,
Would bring her so much praise?

I'm sure they'd love to see this day
For it would bring them much delight
They are the heart of our inspiration
And the reason why we write

Paint Me a Picture
Larry B Dec 2010
Paint me a picture and make it smile
Help me see through my pain
No more words from broken hearts
Or tears that fall like rain

Paint me a picture of a moonlit lake
Or love birds singing their song
No more cheating or lying words
Or doing somebody wrong

Paint me a picture of love's first kiss
Or two people holding hands
No more stories of broken promises
Or senseless one night stands

Paint me a picture of happy endings
Or of death until they part
No more stories of dying young
That tears my heart apart

Paint me a picture as poet's do
Like only you can tell
Paint me a picture to let me know
That in your heart, all is well

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the hills
The kinfolk were drinkin' as they tend to their stills

The longjohns were hung by the chimney with care
No stockings were found, just underwear

The children were nestled so high in their bunks
Their quilts made of skins from rabbits and skunks

Granny with her false teeth and gun on her knee
Was waiting for Santa as she sat by the tree

From out of the barn there arose such a noise
We thought it was Grandpa drinkin' with the boys

But what to my wandering eye should appear
It was just cousin Cleatus in mama's brassiere

And then from the rooftop we heard it at last
Like the sound of thunder or a shot gun blast

We have Christmas dinner, it's finally here
Granny kidnapped Santa while we shot his deer

Venison all covered with onions for stew
And even old Santa enjoyed some too

His belly was full when he walked out the door
But he couldn't resist when we offered him more

Well that's the story of our Christmas here
Merry Christmas to all 'til the same time next year

The Hero
Larry B Dec 2010
I've never seen the rain so clear
As I do when it floods her eyes
I feel the pain she's going thru
Each time my little girl cries

How do I tell her that she's dying,
That her hero can't save the day?
Some kind of hero I turned out to be
I can't even say "It's okay"

Death is something she don't understand
I don't think anybody really does
She keeps asking me, "Will it be over soon?",
And, "I want it to be like it was"

What do I tell her when she asks me this?
I just hold her hand and smile
I say, "Don't worry sunshine, I know it hurts,
It will all be over in a while"

There's nothing worse than losing a child
It will tear your world apart
She says, "Thank you daddy, for being the hero,
That I carry inside of my heart"

As she utters those final words of love
She quietly closes her eyes
I gently kiss her on top of her head
As a piece of her hero dies

The Wedding Vow Curse
Larry B Dec 2010
Have you ever had one of those days,
When nothing goes your way?
And the night is long with noises
Please don't tell my wife what I'm about to say

You see my wife snores
More than anyone I know
She even shakes the bed
Like a herd of buffalo

Sometimes even the neighbors
Will call and complain
They say it's just too much
And it's driving them insane

I've tried everything I know
But all I do is fail
She even registers a 4.0
On the earthquake richter scale

One night I even tried duct tape
And wondered what would happen
She just laid there and kept on snoring
'Til the duct tape started flappin'

But in my wedding vows
I said for better or worse
So I guess I'm gonna love her
And live this wedding vow curse

Toon Time

If I could be a cartoon character
Which one would I be
I thought about being Fred Flinstone
But he's too old-fashioned for me

And then there's maybe George Jetson
A man who knew electronics
Nothing like Yosemite Sam
Who needed to be hooked on phonics

And what about Shaggy and ******
You gotta love those ****** snacks
I've never really considered a Smurf
And their tiny little mushroom shacks

Or maybe I'd become a super hero
Who comes to save the day
Batman , Green Hornet or Underdog
Who puts the bad guys away

Maybe I'd live in Jellystone Park
Where Yogi is still the king
For "Hello Mr Ranger Sir"
Is just the funniest thing

Just Like Jesus Did
Larry B Dec 2010
If you ever get to Heaven,
Would you ever wanna leave?
It takes a lifetime to get there
And the greatest we'll achieve

After you see those streets of gold,
Could you really just walk away,
And turn your back on Paradise,
Like it's any other day?

Could you leave behind your loved ones,
Who rejoiced when you arrived,
And tell them you must leave the place,
That's more beautiful than described?

Could you touch the walls of jasper,
Or sail the crystal sea,
And then walk thru those gates of pearl,
And leave eternity?

And after you've been to Paradise
A place where life don't end
Could you leave this place you call your home,
To die for a stranger's sin?

Could you ever tell the Father,
To keep the things He's hid,
And one day soon you'll come back home,
Just like Jesus did?

Santa Claus and the 7 Dwarfs
Larry B Dec 2010
I bet you didn't know that the 7 dwarfs
Used to work for Santa Claus
Yep, they all got fired from the north pole
Cause they kept breaking too many laws

See, Doc was the north pole physician
He tended to those who were afflicted
But he was writing too many prescriptions
And three hundred elves got addicted

Then we have the dwarf called Sneezy
Sneezy became a problem too
Everywhere he goes he's blowing his nose
And they all came down with the flu

Next we have the dwarf named Sleepy
Now this one should speak for itself
He was always found somewhere laying down
Curled up in a corner on a shelf

Then there's the dwarf called Bashful
This one was just way too shy
And when they finally gave him his pink slip
He was too embarrassed to say goodbye

That brings us to the dwarf named Happy
Now he was just a bundle of joy
But they just couldn't get him to do any work
Cause he was always playing with a toy

And of course we can't forget about *****
This one always did what they said
But he was a little slow, if you know what I mean
And they think he was dropped on his head

And last but not least we have Grumpy
He would stay out drinking all night
Now he was the the north pole's problem child
Cause he was always starting a fight

Well that's the end of my story
And I really hope you're not annoyed
Did I tell you Snow White fired them too?
Yep, all seven dwarfs are unemployed

Hope in Hopelessness
Larry B Dec 2010
Can someone tell me where to go
To mend a broken heart?
For such a place is hard to find
I know not where to start

I've searched under explanation
But it simply wasn't found
I've called out to compassion
But it didn't make a sound

I've looked behind my broken dreams
But neither was it there
I've cried out to all reason
But no one seemed to care

I've prayed for understanding
But no one ever hears
I've searched for hope in hopelessness
To wipe away my tears

Can someone tell me where to go
To mend a broken heart?
A wound that's ever growing
Has torn my soul apart

Silent Heart
Larry B Dec 2010
There's places in the dark, where screams are void
For you can never hear a broken heart cry
They're hidden beneath a veil of pain
Where they break, but will not die

Their tears become their only words
For they're just too broken to speak
And though they try to love again
They're just too empty and weak

They've buried the broken promises
In a place where no one can find
They've scattered all their hopes and dreams
And their futures of every kind

Their emotions stay silent, all but one
And it's wrapped in an ocean of tears
There's no such thing as faith and hope
And love, just simply disappears

They never turn back, from where they came
For they know it's a dead end street
Their hearts lay silent, without a sound
And they're still, refusing to beat

A Million Miles From Home
Larry B Dec 2010
Time is a lot like distance
When a memory is concerned
The older we get the further we are
From the things that we once learned

One more day is another mile
From the way that we were taught
The priceless time when we grew up
A memory that can't be bought

The day we finished high school
We thought that we were grown
One more mile and another day
As we set out on our own

Then the day that we got married
We would walk a few more miles
Another day and further away
As we faced out troubles and trials

Time is a lot like distance
Every second that we roam
It slips away a little each day
'Til were a million miles from home

The Christmas Present
Larry B Dec 2010
She sits by the fire 'til the flames go out
All alone in her rocking chair
Another Christmas Eve has come and gone
But no one seems to care

Her children, now grown with kids of their own
But they just don't visit anymore
Her husband passed away ten years ago
She couldn't know what life had in store

She tucks the blanket underneath her chin
As she rocks the night away
She closes her eyes and begins to dream
As the night turns into day

Awakened by a knock on her window pane
A little boy stands in the snow
She opens the door and invites him in
For he had no place to go

She sits him in her chair by the fireplace
To warm his frost-bitten feet
She goes to the kitchen to get some food
To offer him something to eat

The little boy smiles and says, "Thank you, Mam"
As he hands her an empty bowl
It warmed her heart to see him smile
And touched her very soul

They talked for what seemed like hours
'Til the little boy fell asleep
He stayed all night 'til the morning came
For the snow was just too deep

When the woman awoke the very next day
Where he went, she just didn't know
For he was gone before the sun came up
But there were'nt any tracks in the snow

The very next night she closed her eyes
And left this world behind
That's when Jesus took her by the hand
And said, "Thank You for being so kind"

"For I was the boy who had no shoes,
And you sit Me down by the fire,
You fed Me when I hungered so,
A gift I truly admire"

"I was a stranger on Christmas morning
With no place to lay my head,
You opened up your heart to Me,
And offered Me your bed"

"So Thank You for this Christmas present,
And Merry Christmas too,
Enter in My child well done,
For here's My gift to you"

The Nearsighted Plumber
Larry B Dec 2010
I'm startin' to run out of nursery rhymes
So, I made up one of my own
It's about a nearsighted plumber
That was accidently glued to his throne

Once upon a time, long, long ago
There was a plumber, who I'll call Dale
Poor old Dale had a hard time plumbing
Cause he really couldn't see very well

He'd gotten a call, "The toilet won't flush!
Please, can you come right away?"
Well, old Dale got in such a hurry
He forgot to take his glasses that day

Well, by the time old Dale had got there
The house was in quite a mess
He realized he'd forgotten his glasses
But he'd give that toilet his best

He'd not seen this since plumbing school
But then, he only saw it on a test
And by the time, he got his tools together
The water was starting to crest

He had spotted the problem right away
But remember now, he can only half see
The water was squirtin' six feet high
And poor Dale was only five foot three

He laid his glue on the toilet seat
While trying his best not to drown
He couldn't see where he put it at
And, of course, that's where he sat down

He didn't even know 'till it was too late
He'd bent over to loosen a nut
And that's when he first noticed that thing
The toilet was glued to his ****

So, if you ever need a real good plumber
He's the man for the job, without fail
And I hope you enjoyed this story
About the nearsighted plumber named Dale

I forgot tell you, there's one more thing
About the nearsighted plumber named Dale
That man still has that toilet seat
For the thing's still glued to his tail

The Bubble
Larry B Dec 2010
Trapped inside this bubble
I wait for my heart to break
The sound will surely be deafening
That a broken heart will make

The sound must be like thunder
To all who's standing near
Even people miles away
Can probably even hear

I wonder if it feels like lightning,
As it crumbles into dust?
Little pieces of shattered dreams
And flakes, of broken trust

Why must I endure this pain,
When I've done nothing wrong?
Even now, I can feel it's tear
And I fear it won't be long

There's silence before every storm
As my tears begin to flow
Its grip is ever tightening
It will not let be go

This bubble I'm in, has finally burst
Those words have now been spoken
She called to say it's over
My heart, is simply broken

The Flowers in the Bible
Larry B Dec 2010
The flowers in the bible
Her thoughts of yesterday
Pressed between the pages
So they couldn't fade away

Grandma would read us stories
From her bible every night
But she'd stop to smell the roses
That the pages held so tight

She'd always smile and close her eyes
As she traced the petal's form
Her mind would drift to things long passed
As her broken heart would warm

She'd tell us of a oak tree
Where Grandpa carved her name
The place where they got married
When two hearts would beat the same

He gave her on their wedding day
This rose she loves to touch
It takes her back to yesterday
To a man she loved so much

The day that Grandma passed away
And we laid her in the grave
We buried her with that bible
And the flowers that Grandpa gave

City of Tears
Larry B Dec 2010
In the center of every teardrop
Is a city that's seldom seen
It's filled with pain and heartache
And everything in between

The streets are paved with promises
That's broken, from start to finish
The skies are filled with hopelessness
That hope cannot diminnish

Each teardrop holds a memory
That vanishes into air
Forgotten dreams fill the breeze
Like fog in the city square

In the square there stands a fountain
Its waters are filled with lies
Shattered smiles that turns to tears
Each time that someone cries

In the center of every teardrop
Is a city that reappears
Trapped inside a broken heart
That's called The City of Tears

Black and White
Larry B Dec 2010
Awakened, I marvel at what I see
You were gone in the middle of the night
With you you've taken my heart and soul
And my world became black and white

The roses, no longer a beautiful red
And you've stolen the oceans blue
The grass and trees no longer green
And my purpose has lost its hue

Now everyone I see all look the same
For the darkness is confused with the light
And everyone knows when the sun doesn't shine
The color disappears in the night

The flowers have lost their radiant glow
They no longer take away my breath
They're now adorned in the color of gray
For they all wear the color of death

Red is no longer the color of love
For that word just doesn't exist
Color no longer a word people use
Once loved, but now only dismissed

Without your smile to brighten the world
I no longer have a need for my sight
For I'd rather be blind, in a world without color
Than to see it in black and white

Echo in Time
Larry B Dec 2010
Time starts ticking the day we're born
Today is tomorrow's past
Yesterday is just a memory
That fades away too fast

Everyday when the sun sets low
We're closer to the grave
Death keeps calling every hour
'Til we become his slave

While we're young we live forever
Living life to the fullest, we're bold
But one day soon time starts to fly
Then the grave awaits, we're old

Looking back we count our blessings
And curse the things we've lost
For time doesn't care who we are
And we all must pay the cost

Our life is only an echo in time
Destined to disappear
From birth to death then we're gone
Like we were never here

Now, here's the story of Rip Van Winkle
The true story, not the lie
They always want to hide the truth
I'll just never understand why

You see, Rip Van Winkle was married
To a woman, who always nagged
And that poor dude was bored all the time
Cause his internet always lagged

So, he climbed up in his recliner
And decided to take a little nap
When, out of the blue, the Sleeping Spider
Went and crawled up in his lap

Now, Rip knew about that spider
But still, he just couldn't resist
For if he let that spider bite him
They'd be no "honey do" list

Well, that spider sunk his fangs in
Then jumped back on the floor
It wasn't long, Rip closed his eyes
And man, that guy could snore

Now, a wicked smile even crossed his face
As he leaned back in his chair
For, when he awoke, she'd would be gone
But Rip, just simply didn't care

Well a hundred years just flew by
And his wife was surely dead
But when he finally opened his eyes
She lay beside him in the bed

She awoke while still clutching
"The list" for a hundred years
For the spider had bitten her also
And it brought the man to tears

But this story has a happy ending
Cause dial-up was a thing of the past
They decided to finally get broadband
And his internet was fast at last

Poe's Destiny
Larry B Dec 2010
Embraced by the silence that pierces my soul
My shadow, my only friend
Aimlessly I wander this barren place
Not knowing where my path might end

My scars are the burdens that weigh me down
A silent reminder of pain
My reason for living remains out of sight
Too broken to ever complain

The winds often whisper my name in the night
I follow where ever it leads
The darkness inhales my will to survive
Ignoring my wants or my needs

These walls of destiny impede my view
My judgement now cloudy and tired
The decisions I make are the product of fate
A reason, no longer required

My future is hollow, its echo unclear
As I stumble back into the night
No promises made, my hope held captive
I pray, that I soon find the light

No where to turn, no where to hide
I write to set my soul free
These voices uncertain I follow a ghost
This shadow called destiny

The Christmas Eve Caper
Larry B Nov 2010
I woke up early on Christmas Eve
It was late, in the middle of the night
When I saw him under the Christmas tree
He give me such a terrible fright

I thought it must be a cat burglar
Who was trying to steal from me
And I had a fifty-two inch color television
Under that Christmas tree

So I ran to the kitchen as fast as I could
To try to find me a kinife
But I just couldn't find one anywhere
Remind me to have a talk with my wife

Anyway, I grabbed up the toaster behind the bread
That was sitting on the cabinet shelf
I snuck up behind him, like a ninja in sneakers
And was planning on killing that elf

Of course I didn't know it, at the time it occurred
That the fat man, was old Santa Claus
It wouldn't have mattered to me at all
Cause he touched my remote with his paws

I almost had him, when I heard this sound
That was coming from my very own kitchen
It was, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, *****
Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen

Those eight tiny reindeer had attacked me
I had hoofprints all over my head
And that's when the fat man in the big red suit
Turned around to me and said

"I'm just gonna borrow your color tv,
So I can watch the football game"
"The one in my workshop is only nineteen inches,
And it's really too small and lame"

Before I could tell him to forget it buddy
I heard the sound of him slamming my door
Those eight bully reindeer had wrapped me in tinsel
And left me helpless on the livingroom floor

Well, that was the last time I saw him
And my tv was never returned
So make sure you hide your color tv's
Take it from someone who's learned

Silent Screams
Larry B Nov 2010
Why can't anybody hear me?
I scream til my face turns blue
A lot of people stare at me
Like they're just passing thru

They act like I'm invisible
They don't hear a word I say
I keep calling out their names
But they just walk away

What was this thing I did
To make them all be so rude
They act like they're hiding
Or maybe trying to elude

And even my own children
Acted like I just don't exist
I tried calling to my wife
But she would only resist

It must have been horrible
This thing that I did
Then nothing but darkness
As they closed the coffin's lid

Language of Love
Larry B Nov 2010
The only words a man needs to know
When he leaves his wedding day
Is yes dear and no dear while nodding his head
And of course whatever you say

It seems like men get dumber
When they put on that wedding ring
His house is not his castle
And He's no longer the king

He tells her, "No, your're not getting fat"
At least twenty times a day
While biting his tongue 'til he can't even talk
When her mother comes over to stay

"Take out the trash and feed the dog"
"Dont forget to mow the grass"
While taking the blame for that stinky smell
Each time she passes gas

But what happened to that make-up?
It's now a thing of the past
And now she screams "Get out of bed"
"Good morning" didn't last

They say that marriage is blissful
And there's nothing greater in life
And now you know my opinion
But I still better ask my wife

Heart of a Poem
Larry B Nov 2010
Have you ever really wondered
What poems really are
It's something hidden inside of us
That we carry like a scar

It's simply raw emotion
That we're molding on each day
'Til the words come out perfected
And we know just what to say

The pen then meets the paper
Like two strangers from afar
Without any sure direction
Like a helpless falling star

It tells us who a person is
Or who they strive to be
It tells us of their *******
And the words that set them free

Some will simply make us smile
While others will make us cry
Some will make us laugh out loud
Or leave us asking why

It's more than pen and paper
It's a burden inside our heart
And if we cannot set it free
It will tear our world apart

Message in the Bottle
Larry B Nov 2010
He wonders why she left him
As he stumbles to the bed
He just needed to take a minute
Some time, to clear his head

When he got home, her clothes were gone
No note was ever found
She didn't even say goodbye
She didn't even make a sound

Married now for fifteen years
And she threw it all away
He just didn't understand it
How could she leave this way?

He opens another bottle
And takes him a couple sips
He numbs the pain like everyday
As the whiskey crosses his lips

He says, "Why didn't she leave a message?"
His head too cloudy to think
"I didn't do anything wrong", he says
And then takes another drink

The message was in the bottle
He was just to blind to see
She begged him to stop drinkin'
But it wasn't meant to be

Beauty Undefined
Larry B Nov 2010
The artist tried his very best
To paint your portrait true
But his brush refused to touch the canvas
For nothing, is as beautiful as you

The flowers faint, as you walk by
As they marvel at your radiant smile
All the stars reflect your glow
As the moon is shunned in denial

The poet's pen refuses to write
And his paper has run away
For there's no words, to describe your beauty
And there's simply just nothing to say

Even Shakespeare could not create
A poem, to equal your grace
For if he could, a sonnet would exist
That told of your breathtaking face

The Mona Lisa has lost her smile
When she heard of a beauty so pure
Time itself, has ceased to exist
Captivated, by your enticing lure

The hearts of men will hold your image
For you're truly one of a kind
They'll tell of the treasure that was simply known
As the beauty that was undefined

Someone's Son
Larry B Nov 2010
Somewhere on a battlefield
A man lays hurt and dying
While a million miles away
A mother is somewhere crying

Just one more day in hell
Where someone gave his life
His children, without a father
A widow for his wife

Asked to serve his country
In a far and distant land
Giving all he had to give
Then, dying in the sand

Hero's are born and never made
Just doing what is right
And in his darkest hour
His fear becomes his light

To some he's just a number
Not knowing the things he's done
But to me he's much more than that
To me he's someone's son

Spark of Hope
Larry B Nov 2010
Somewhere beyond the dying embers light
A spark of hope will rescue me
Though the flames are now long since gone
The smoke still sets me free

An eternal flame now forever silenced
But a breeze of redemption blows my way
The darkness steals your name from my lips
But you memory still beckons me stay

The fire still burns within my soul
My breath filled with the ashes of rejection
The love I feel envelopes me whole
'Til the heat has scorched my reflection

Consumed by the flame that warmed my heart
As I burn but will not die
The smoke of regret fills the empty night
As it settles through this hollow sky

A spark of hope is all that I seek
To raise these embers once more
A gentle whisper will ignite the flames
'Til again this fire shall soar

The night before the heartbreak
Nothing seems out of place
No signs of any betrayal
No hints upon their face

No empty rooms, filled with tears
The pillows, free from stain
No echo from a single heart
For it's two that still remain

No sad songs on the radio
No reasons for regret
Their name still on the telephone
No numbers to forget

No promises ever broken
For nothing seems amiss
No one ever says goodbye
No final farewell kiss

No reason to remember them
No pain to diagnose
The night before the heartbreak
Is the time that hurts the most

Just Beautiful
Larry B Nov 2010
The most beautiful sight I've ever seen
Such beauty has never been found
I catch you staring back at me
But you never make a sound

Your eyes are like a crystal sea
So deep and full of love
I know for sure you're one of a kind
That was sent from Heaven above

Your smile can keep me hypnotized
I can stare at you for days
I can tell the world of your awesomeness
In a million different ways

I just can't seem to get anything done
Whenever you're in the room
My eyes won't let me look away
My purpose you consume

What would I do without you
My vision of perfection
My wife just told me to stop it
I've been staring at my own reflection

Gone
Larry B Nov 2010
You're like a passing apparition
A mist that's caught in the wind
The breath of the morning fog
That comes to a sudden end

You're a glancing ray of sunshine
That takes my sight away
You're the space that they call twilight
Between the darkness and the day

You're like the anticipation
When two lovers first embrace
Or maybe an embarrassing moment
That colors a person's face

You're like that rush of adrenaline
That's right before you lie
For it only lasts a second
And then it passes by

You're like a bolt of lightning
That flashes before the dawn
You love was only fleeting
And now it's simply gone

Hollow Truth
Larry B Nov 2010
Somewhere in the darkest shadows
A promise lays void and broken
A testament to a broken heart
And evey word that's spoken

Where do broken promises go?
Do they fade away and die?
Or do they live in empty hearts,
'Til they grow into a lie?

Before a promise is broken
Someone has to care
Shattered trust, an empty shell
A feeling of despair

Betrayal is a way of life
And the mark of every liar
But the truth not only sets you free
It's also tried by fire

Where do broken promises go?
In wicked hearts to hide?
Or a hollow truth with no regrets
In the minds of those who lied

Ghost of Broken Love
Larry B Nov 2010
I'm haunted by your memory
A ghost of things long passed
Trapped inside my hollow dreams
A love that didn't last

A spirit that taunts my very being
It will not set me free
Bound by the chains of my regrets
Its echo haunting me

I carry around this broken heart
My reward for misplaced trust
I chose to walk the path of love
But you, the path of lust

The spectre of your lying eyes
Follow where ever I go
Broken promises upon your lips
Piercing my very soul

Still haunted by your memory
No peace for me to find
Tormented by what could have been
This ghost you left behind

Second Hand Love
Larry B Nov 2010
Second hand smoke can **** you
But so can second hand love
Like a jumper on top of a building
'Til someone gives him a shove

You compare me to the way he was
Yet you never mention his name
But everytime I don't stack up
I'm the one that you blame

I see the way you look at me
With that cold and empty stare
Holding me and thinking of him
While wishing he was there

You talk about our future
While living in the past
I tell you how much I love you
You tell me I'm moving too fast

I die a little more each day
Because it's him you're thinking of
It's such a painful way to die
This thing, called second hand love

A Thousand and One Denials
Larry B Nov 2010
The very breath I breathe each day
Is imprisoned by your name
A captive of my heart's desire
With only your beauty to blame

I dare not close my eyes to sleep
For I'm haunted by your smile
Like the serpent in the Garden
Your purpose is to beguile

Even your shadow takes my breath
And causes my heart to stare
Forgetting to beat as you pass by
From the moment it sees you there

The flowers look on with envy
Knowing they can't compete
The magical smell of your perfume
Makes the flowers incomplete

Your name has held a thousand lips
Your beauty, a thousand smiles
At least a thousand broken hearts
Now, a thousand and one denials

The Sinner's Pen
Larry B Nov 2010
An empty shell, I stand undone
While haunted by my past
A victim of the choices I've made
That were destined not to last

Reason, just a misplaced word
That's helped to seal my fate
Repentence, was tomorrow's plan
But somehow coming too late

Though my vision was twenty, twenty
When looking where I'd been
I was living for that moment
Too deceived to call it sin

Excuses, I had more than most
Justification, my disguise
I tried to make it hide the truth
But it only hid my lies

My reward's become my punishment
My home, this empty shell
Forgiveness, now a hollow word
There's no forgiveness in hell

And now I reap the things I've sown
Through the tears of my regret
I hope this letter will guide your path
So you will never forget

This letter were found inside a church
From one who was lost in sin
No name was found upon the note
It was signed, "The sinner's pen"

Autumn's Snowflakes (Tanka)
Larry B Nov 2010
Leaves, Autumn's snowflakes
Yellow and red paint the ground
Trees are trimmed in gold
Pushed by the whispering winds
Sharing their hidden treasure

The frost bites the earth
Sending a chill to it's core
The smell of Autumn
Drowning the flower's perfume
The flowers bow in envy

Gardens stand empty
Gleaned under the harvest moon
With paintbrush in hand
Autumn becomes the artist
Painting nature's masterpiece
Larry B Nov 2010
'Twas the night before Thanksgiving
And all through the forest
All the turkeys were gathered
From the richest to poorest

For a meeting was called
To plan their revenge
For all of their loved ones
Who were ever cooked or singed

Now this turkey rebellion
Was long overdue
How would they get even?
And what would they do?

I was there that night
When their meeting adjourned
Keep reading this poem
To see what I learned

This meeting went on
For what seemed like an hour
'Til a gobbler stepped forth
In their circle of power

Now all the turkeys agreed
To this gobbler's idea
They'd all eat some exlax
And give them diarrhea

No matter how they cooked it
Bake it or boil it
The humans would spend
All day on the toilet

So, remember this Thanksgiving
As you try to relax
Have plenty of TP
For those sudden attacks

The Artist
Larry B Nov 2010
He paitently paints the flowers
At the beginning of each day
His touch supplies the beauty
That makes them look that way

He colors every rainbow
Then hangs them in the sky
And brightens up the sunshine
As morning's drawing nigh

He shines the moon and stars
To keep them burning bright
He ready's them for the darkness
To cast His guiding light

His brush creates the ripples
On the rivers and the lakes
He seeks to paint perfection
No matter what it takes

The world has been His canvas
From the moment time began
And we become His Masterpiece
When in the Father's Hand

Missing Pieces
Larry B Nov 2010
Love is just puzzle
Though you must admit
It makes a beautiful picture
When all the pieces fit

If the commitment piece is missing
And it's hard to find devotion
We try to find the promise piece
While still looking for emotion

Respect and trust are smaller pieces
But they make the puzzle whole
And where did I put that honesty
Does anybody know

I've finally found affection
I think it goes right here
Patience is a bigger piece
But it always disappears

To make this puzzle whole
Our work must never cease
Love becomes the picture
When we find the missing piece

The Dark Poet
Larry B Nov 2010
I keep waiting for the sunshine
But all I get is rain
This melancholy spirit
Fills my soul with pain

Lost I wander aimlessly
I know not where I go
My prison bars are hopelessness
Freedom, I'll never know

Locked in total darkness
No hope to see the light
Just a forgotten memory
A spirit of the night

Not looking for a future
But praying for an end
One more day is way too long
In this hell I'm living in

I write these words in torment
A curse, I live each day
A poet's heart, forever dark
With only hate to say

I write no happy endings
Just pain and suffering
My blackend heart betrays my mind
With the words my pen must bring

One day soon I'll breathe my last
No loved ones here that cries
My torment here is over
This poet of darkness dies

Poe's Insanity
Larry B Nov 2010
Invisible voices calling my name
From a place that I know not
Their darkness surrounds my very being
And I cannot make them stop

Pretty white forms keep beckoning
"Won't you come out and play"
"What place is this,?" I ask them
They reply, "We're told not to say"

The voices continue their torment
"Why can't they just leave me alone?"
"There's much you have to answer for,
And now you will have to atone"

"Make them stop," I scream. "Make them stop"
"I know not of these things you speak"
The pretty white forms continue to beckon
Then, Silence! that rendered me weak

The wicked sound of their monotonous cries
Has scarred my soul with their pain
Freedom has all but abandoned my mind
A torment, I can not explain

What place is this I cannot escape?
I write of the things that I see
Remember my name, Edgar Allan Poe
As I write of my insanity

Love's Vagabond
Larry B Nov 2010
Deprived for all existence
The world has disappeared
My heart builds walls of callus
My soul, forever seared

How can I ever love again?
No feelings so serene
A puppet without a master
A king without his queen

Never will a single smile
Call my face it's home
Destined to be love's vagabond
With no one to call my own

Growing old and lonely
It's now a way of life
Love, is just a four letter word
Without you as my wife

I spend my days in silence now
Trying not to cry
You said you'd never leave me
Why did you have to die?

Standing in Line
Larry B Nov 2010
We stand in line the day we're born
While waiting to see the earth
We stand in  line to stand in line
While learning of our worth

We stand in line for heartache
Whenever it's our turn
We stand in line to seek the truth
While trying our best to learn

We stand in line to say goodbye
When someone passes away
We stand in line to welcome love
While trying not to stray

We stand in line to see the future
While standing in line to die
We stand in line for answers
While never questioning why

We stand in line to see Heaven
While standing at the gate
We stand in line to leave this world
While learning how to wait
