Scarlet eyes are
Gazing up toward
Starless skies and
Moonless clouds
Indigo horizons claim
The souls of stars
In silver shrouds

Fly away
And scream your melodies
Forget about the blind mirages
On your mellow seas

Forget about the sun
Forget about the light
The echoes in the dark
Will offer vision to the
Sightless

Madness creeps where
Sadness sleeps on
Tattered sheets
A crying pillow
Grayer hues of
Prayer issue
Suppressing dew
On weeping willows

Fly away
And scream your melodies
Forget about the dark illusions
In your reveries

Forget about the sun
Forget about the sky
The angels in the dark
Will guide the
Wingless and the flightless

Flames die down
A smoky crown
Upon the shadows
Cloaked in white
Silhouettes in
Darkness shade the
Whispers of
A warm midnight

Ebony raven
Against clear sapphire cotton sky
Soars so high
Above mother’s lush green mountainous curves

He soars
Like a black dove
In peace beyond the tire’d metallic beasts
That scurry
Between asphalt forests and concrete caves

He soars
Like the midnight eagle
Nobly gazing down at plump savages
That hunt
Proudly donning polyester furs and vinyl skins
Admiring their ignorance

He soars
Like a charcoal seagull
On crystal breezes
Over thick brown seas littered with stucco *****
That course
Through the veins of mother herself

He soars
Like a sable sparrow
Carrying the last untainted bite
From the impacted cement earth
That seals
The life within mother
Inescapable

He soars
Away from it all
To beauty beyond
So high
He soars

Hoji-cha kisses
Warm, roasted, gentle
Melt frost from my nose
The tip of my nose
On this frozen night
With you

We stroll
Through silent snow
On ancient cobbled streets
Slushing through shadows
Thorny shadows
Cold and soft
But I'm warm
With you

The moon flows in and out
The stars gather about
To listen to the moon's call
In rainbow rings
And pale white shawl
She speaks of the Pacific
Reminding them of waves gone by
She says that the Pacific
Has no memory
And they ask why...

He waves his farewells
And the white caps dance
And he knows they'll be gone
Once they awaken from their trance
Then they vanish from the earth
Like a candle burning out
And the Pacific
He forgets
What he was thinking about.

He would always say goodbye
every morning every night

He would always say take care
Brush his fingers through her hair

Months together turned to days
The last week was just a haze

For so long as they could stand
He reached out to hold her hand

They knew he'd leave in a week
So he kissed her on the cheek

Told her softly 'now take care'
Brushed his fingers through her hair

Then with one last heartful sigh
He took a breath and said goodbye

His lips last touched this glass
The last thing that they touched
Before kissing my lips
One last time

Why did he choose this glass
Among the twenty in my cabinet
This glass, etched with stars and a single rose
And a little blonde boy gazing up at those stars
Pondering the universe, and this rose

This glass, that I purchased with him
On our last snowy excursion in the mountains
Romancing ourselves, delighting in frosty strolls
Holding hands
Pondering our universe, our future, our rose

His lips last touched this glass
This glass, I will forever cherish
Our memories etched in this glass
The last thing that touched his lips
Before kissing my lips
One last time
