Never a darker time was known
In Heaven or Earth below
When that path up to Golgatha
The Lord and Savior He did go

The sinless for the sinner
On His shoulders they were laid
And in His love and His mercy
The penalty He paid

Nailed to a cross
Lifted up on high
For the sins of the world
He chose to suffer and to die

But the grave couldn't hold him
The stone was rolled away
He conquered death once and for all
On that resurrection day

To me, Spring is a picture
Of that most glorious day
As nature's life is resurrected
From Winter's deathly grey

The vibrant deep green
As the plants begin to grow
The warm Spring rain
Instead of Winter's cold snow

A picture of the resurrection
To me Spring truly has to be
A type of resurrection from the grave
That you and I can see

I was challenged by a friend
To say something about Spring
As I thought of it in sleep
This rhyme is what that thought did bring.

It was Friday the 13th
But that wasn't on my mind
As I was out metal detecting
To see what I could find

I'm not one to believe in luck
Neither good or bad
I just wanted to dig in the dirt
To see what could be had

I wasn't out there hardly any time
Before I heard that familiar beep
Telling me there was treasure down below
And it wasn't very deep

So I dug a hole
Wondering what it could be
But as I kneeled to inspect it
There was nothing I could see

So I stood to my feet
And scanned it once more
And it showed up again
Just as deep as before

So I dug again
With the same outcome
Searching for this buried treasure
Hoping for a tidy sum

Over and over
I repeated the drill
But the detector showed the same depth
Every time still

I never found that treasure
For my labor, I reaped no fruit
But the lesson I learned was
When metal detecting, don't wear a steel toed boot.

I know the day will come
I'll finally close my eye
My spirit fleeing
As I die

When that day comes
Please let it be
In total peace
Or as I slay the enemy

In peace or battle
I am content
As I count my life
Very much well spent

Just not in between
I beg and plead
When that time comes
And my life blood I bleed

May it count
Is my plea
On that day
Death comes for me.

The smoke curling from the chimney
Was such a beautiful sight
As the trapper returned to his cabin
With the last rays of the day's light

It had been a few weeks
Since with his family he'd been
And he was so glad in a few moments
He'd see them again

The kids raced to the door
As he stepped inside
Followed close behind
By his beautiful bride

He loved his life
Being at one with the land
But he knew his greatest blessings
Were those now holding his hand

The life of a mountain man
With the objects of his love
So thankful for it all
To the Lord God above...

With bow in hand
Arrows in my quiver
(After a night in camp
Doing much damage to my liver)

I set out
To stalk my prey
Hoping not to return
Empty handed today

I found my spot
And stopped to listen
As the early morning sun
On the leaves did glisten

Then what to my wondering
Eyes did appear?
Yep you guessed it
A group of eight deer

Slowly and quietly
I drew back my bow
Took careful aim
And let the string go

The arrow found it's mark
A deer hit the ground
As the others ran
So quickly off they did bound

After a few moments
I went to claim my prize
Only to see a shiney red nose
Beneath the now dead eyes

"Oh well" I thought
"I guess it'll taste the same"
So after field dressing
I loaded up my game

Then a fat man
Came crashing through the brush
Coming at me full throttle
A true *** rush

He was dressed all in red
With a solid white beard
Not sure who he was
But he certainly looked weird

Well I took off
At a full run
Not sure what he intended
But guessing it wouldn't be fun

Not sure if you've ever ran
Carrying a deer
But I was desperate
To not let the fat man get near

After awhile
He gave up the pursuit
I got to my truck
Loaded the deer and did scoot

I have to tell ya
That was the best deer I have ate
But something else about it
Truly too is great

I mounted the head
Where I sleep at night
And as I read in bed
That nose casts a perfect light.

I once saw big foot
All tall and hairy
And I tell you friend
He looked pretty scary

Had to be 7 foot tall
And covered in hair
So much you could only see his eyes
With their sinister glare

He had a bad stench
And what appeared to be green teeth
And weighed so much
The ground seemed to sink underneath

He did speak a form of English
Though it was hard to understand
And yes it is true
He had a Slim Jim in his hand

Of course I ran away
I am at least that smart
You just never know what you will see
At your local Wal-Mart!

Crossing the bridge to Lawerenceburg
As the fog is rolling on the river
A real and definite chill in the air
Enough to send a shiver

The woods are all around
The leaves are mostly fallen
Which we all know means
Winter's definitely callin'

There on your left
The old train trestle high in the air
No way I would ever cross it
Even the thought does me scare

Then there's the Wild Turkey distillery
There on top of the hill
The smell of sour mash whiskey
The air around to fill

Crossing the bridge to Lawrenceburg
These are the things that I see
Though I wasn't raised here
Lawerenceburg is now a home to me.
