My thoughts
Are like waves
Lapping up against the shores of
My deeper desires
Trying to make the two
Become one
Tirelessly

Some waves are bigger
And show great promise

But, alas,
No wave is mighty enough
To break these
Shores

I once heard a story about Atlas
Who held the world on his shoulders
As punishment

The weight of it all,
Crushing
So why are we punished?

The answer is never so simple
I think that it is beautiful
Because it is different for everyone
I think that it is heartbreaking
Because it is often discovered alone
And there is a glimmer of hope
Like a distant star
When someone wants to help

Little do they know
As much as they try
You can't carry two worlds at once.
No matter what it is, everyone is fighting a battle.

Sometimes when things get fuzzy
I like to go for a walk
And just breathe deeply

I've always been one
To hold on longer
Clasp my fingers with yours
Wrap my arms around your body
Until I feel you loosen your grip or hold
Even just a little bit
And then I tell myself
It's okay to let go

But only when I know
You let me go first
