Blue winter morning
Still dark.  Two small chickadees
on a snow-covered branch

Cool summer's eve
Tucked snug beneath the blanket
Night wind kisses me

Cold winter river
Cormorant upholds his wings
Black on rock and ice

Blue mid-winter noon
Fat mallard nipping tails
Snow is here at last

Early summer's eve
Green ash leaves on blue sky and
seagulls wheeling 'round

Elk steps from the forest edge
Pausing, majestic

Summer's end, tall pines
Hide blue heron as we search
Suddenly, he swoops!

Late fall, grey skies and
just enough snow on the road
to swirl and blow

Refilling the birdfeeders
as trees are cracking

Perched at the feeder,
Blue Jay's feathers are ruffled
in the winter storm

In early winter
River grey and freighters few
The ducks and I wait

I have jars of them
"Here's another one you'd like!"
More rocks from my dad

sea smoke
suspended over ice
so cold

Full dark; late autumn
Lights flicker yellow and white
on Grand Traverse Bay

mistaken for a butterfly

snow on the air
