Words

What if your words were written on my skin?

With the whole world being able to see
What you have said to me.

Would you have still said those words?

Who You Are
Maddie Haugen May 2018
You may ask others who you are.
You may get some answers,
But none will be right,
Because they don’t truly know you.

It may get hard,
And you may give up.

No matter what don’t ask others,
And never give up.

The only way to know
Is to stay true to yourself.

Don’t listen to others,
Some of them may lie.
For they don’t know the true you.

So when you ask yourself who you are,
Look no further than your true self.

The World That I See
Maddie Haugen May 2018
As I walk down the sidewalk I see many things.
I see people walking,
all with a different purpose.

There goes a man, in a suit and tie,
rushing to a meeting, that he can’t afford to miss.

There goes a guy, with an untied shoe,
hurrying to an interview for a job,
to keep his family off the streets.

There goes a lady, taking her time.
She has nowhere to go and nowhere to be.

There goes a mother pulling her kids along,
making sure they get on the bus on time.

There goes a man, a shopping cart in hand,
with ***** clothes and holes in his shoes.
He’s picking up cans, so he might earn enough
for some food to last him a month.

There is a person sitting on a bench,
dressed in all black.
They are looking at nothing in particular,
with a bottle by their side.

There goes a kid, with bruises and cuts.
They look to be escaping from some place.

This is the world that we live in.
This is the world that I see.
