The Voices
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
The figments
Of my imagination
Form
Characters
Caricaturized
By their character
They exaggerate
My failures
Voicing opinions
I swear
Aren’t my own
But somehow
They’ve grown
With each fall
They rise higher
In cognition

An incognito option
Was proposed
In my sub conscientious
By an unknown
Object
I objected
Obviously
But the
Con artistry
Was shown beautifully
The calligraphy
Was written perfectly
And preferred to be
Read
By the misled….

Pride said,
“You’re lows
Can disappoint highly
Just a point
Made
To marinate
In the milieu
Of thoughts
That spill through

Once
Your highs
Reach its peak
You’ll peek
Into the heavens

Every minute
At this distance
From Earth
Will revolve
Around you
Evolve
And defy the laws
That helped
You grow
Denounce every ounce
Of doubt
And pounce
On greatness
Break the rules
And create the new
Standard
Behold yourself
And be envied
By the eyes of beauty”

Caino
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
I walk through the flame
With a torch
Scorching
Heat rises
While the Sun sets
Scolding Iron
Black burns
From the white hot

Esteemed
The bloods boiling
About to erupt
And rupture
The surface
Earth is
Perfect
For destruction
I get to choose
Shall I just quake
And make shook?
Or just break
And make soot?
To explode
Or stay put?
I can enter
As emperor
Ashes and embers
In the center of
Cinders
I stood
Like a cintaur
I was sent for
Tinders and timber
Fire from the heavens
Rays
To dissarray
I can reign
In array
In a way
That braises
Those in the way
I rose
At dusk
As dust showers
A presence with
A towering essence

I reckon
My wreckage
Has a message

Make haste
Or you will ruin
My hue in tune
With my shoes
Blues tone
Tutone
My red bones
Wouldn't break
If you through stones
Whose on?
Rock solid boulder
I smolder
I decide
When to explode
I can mold
Or stand bold

My manifold is manifested
In my crest

The formation maker
of multanimous nature!

I decide!
Devastation
Or Resignation?

Devise a planetary Invasion
or
Reassign my placement?

I think this nation
Is destined
To be the destination
For infestation

Fate of Failures III
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
I wish
I could write my way
Out of this one
One too many
Slips of the mind
And forgets
Of deadlines
Lining up
To collect their debt

Take my time!
I don’t
Give a ****
Though my time
Is measured
There are infinite
Minutes
To obtain after life
I sold so much
To stay alive
But never my soul
What’s the purpose
Of life without it
I doubted
I’d ever be placed
So low
On the spectrum
Of happiness
But I happen
To have a heart
That beats regardless
Of a hardship

A list of loans
To be made
I borrowed
More than could be paid
During my days
In the burrows
Buried by my mistakes
Helping hands were lent
I took a grip
An uplifted spirit
With
A price tag
That wasn’t fit
For this
Budget
I wouldn’t
Budge
If this loss
Is my final
Than Finally!
I choose to refuse!
Help
For the price
Of my life
And lose
Again.

Again,
I gain something
From a loss
Against the odds
On the eve
Of destruction
Fate
Made a statement
That was heaven sent
A testament
That tests a man’s
Strength
Overcome this disease
Or come to your knees
And succumb
To defeat
Decisions will be made
To give in
Is out the question
Giving your will
Is instilled
And your vision
See’s the blessings
Seize the blessing
And received
The lesson learned
Let it burn
As a memory
Tattooed permanently
And showcased
For all to see
As history
Stares at its future
Which you’ve

The Duo
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
The music
Somehow
Managed to be
Manifested
By the duo
A deaf girl
And a blind boy
Worked
To create this work
Of art
One reads
The notes allowed
While the other strokes
The keysIn synch
They play together

Brail fails
To satisfy the imagination
And the
The hand signs
Signal
Your handicapped
Incapabilities
In case instability
Isn’t enough
To remind her

Reminders forgotten
By forging talents
Forming
As a Shaper of souls

The
Lost and found
They create a presence
Presented
As a musical performance

The conformants
Go with the flow
And accept their fate
Society tells
This peculiar pair’s
Tale
Is unlike any other

Fate begs for a chance
To show her powers

Lust
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
Uncontrolled temptations
Can destroy relations
All for the love of love
The desire for more
Seduction is a tool
To make tools
Of vessels of truth
Pairs
Married together
Marred, scarred, and discarded
For one night only
One becomes two
And the two become lost
The trinity
Of a true relation
Is man, woman and the spirit
The spirit chosen
Can be angel or demon
Angels create
True creations
Demons use lust
To connect the unwanted
Matches
Igniting
The fumes of anger
And angst
That we all face
When with
Our significant others
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
When I meet the end
Don’t follow in suit
Dress me in a suit
All white
I’m alright
With however many moments
God
Loaned me
To spend
With friends,
And my
Next of kin
In the blend
Of happiness and ignorance
I stand content
Contrary to my obligation
To fall
Before all
Caged in
A casket
Cradled and Casted
Deep
Into the vast void
Of undiscovered
Land

The evidence of decompostion
Doesn’t sit well
With those
In positions
That demand proof
To make use of life

Those who
Make it based on faith
Leave
With a flash
That lasts
Until the last memory
Is played
They hope
The lord
Isn’t as strict
As the script portrays

I believe we are a portrait
There’s only truth
In what we see
The beauty or disgust
Is just
What we perceive
The picture
In actuality
Was painted
By the hands of time
Drawn out
To display

The power of an idea
The strength of a concept
And The Intrinsic Value of Nothingness

Jill The Killer
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
The female stripper
Version
Of Jack the ripper
Jill the killer
Done wrong
Lookingto cause worse
Dimples
In her cheeks
Hard
To turn away
Her meek manner
Can make
The heart weak
Can change
Moods, methods
With a message
Scent
Of perfume
It’s familiarity
Fumes persons
Of any kind
Her voice
Can play like strings
Hoisting…
Soon to hang
Seduction suction
Can **** when
One doesn’t want it
Wanted
Therefore pulled
And handled
Like a pail
Up a hill
Failed
To be used
For its purpose
Shirtless, heartless
My hearts
Worthless
Because you were less
Of a woman
And became
My better half

This card
Its a scar
A love scar
It tells
A tale
Of what once was
A stale
Stench
Fumes from the outdated
Perfume
The lipstick print
Burned
A permanent
Memory
I'll never forget
Those lips
Slipped
After i danced
With the devil
For a bit
I
The advocate
For too much pride
Abdicated
My position
As dictator
For your revolution
Your free
This civil war
Was uncivilized
Lies
Across the frontline
Frontin, lying
Guess
I'm a traitor
I traded
It all
For the greatest fall
I ever took
I know
I don’t deserve
A parachute

So let me loose...

Runaways
Ran
To new land
New clan
The Rebels
Sought refuge
Grew
Fought
A standoff
Against power
Whose
Afraid
Of a grenade
From a renegade
With nothing
To lose?

An outnumbered
Underdog
Already abused
Walks
Into the pit
Locked in
Pitted
Against a pit
With a lockjaw
That bit
And held
With the grip
Of the law
The loser
Still wins
Though
A life lost
The price costs
Hope
Spreads
Like the words
Of a martyr
Read in red

Here’s a toast
To the living dead
Anyone
That gave their life
In a fight
That couldn’t be won
Stood
Against the giants
And tyrants
Of the era
Erased terror
With blood shed
And a carved
Signature
That signifies
The nature
Of a man

The Root of all Evil
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
Priorities
In check

…Money
…Power
.Respect.

Attaining all three
Is the goal
And death of me

To have a billions bucks
Doesn’t seem tough
To the lucky *******
But
To be a billionaire
And watch a million people
Starve
Is the hard luck charm
Of lucky *******

Diamond chains
Blood stained
From the
People I claimed to help

Money is the root
Of all evil
Are we shooting
For Satan?
Cash rules
Everything around me
Guess, I’m a devil
In the making

What
Will I make of myself
After
Power is attained?
What’s left to gain?
If a rich man
Is denied
Entrance to the pearly gates
What is it about
Power
That makes it great?

Is pain
Not felt
While acquiring wealth
Which
Is worse for health
Starvation
Or Obesity
If a beast
Starves
For his reluctance
To eat meat
Lost his will
To ****
Would they consider it
Defeat?

Good grief
To win in life
Just
To lose thereafter
Seems to be
The inescapable
Twist
Of becoming rich

The Odd Couple
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
Time
Has changed its course
Love’s no longer intermixed
The feelings
Are just not
As in
I bend
Blended
With a broken promise
One
With the lies
I told
Old news
Like my ways
You remain
Unentertained
Unhappily walking
In the rain
I used to
Run through your mind
Now I’m a rerun
A worn out cliché

This odd couple
Was actually odd
In it’s inaccurate
Portrayal
Of the oddities of love
We
Were a spark
With no fuel
Static
Statistically speaking
The odds of us
Even meeting
Is too rare
For me to bear
But the moment
Fate forgot
Was the moment
That we met
Now our
Trials and tribulations
Are a tribute
To our attributes
Our rude, brute force
That broke the rules
Of physics

The night
We made Love
Without the chemistry
To make it
Bottled up our emotions
As if we wished
To save it

Living
Lie after lie
Looking in
Each others eyes
We’ll appear
To have a passion
As long as our masks
Are tied

Cupid
Our crooked archer
Is to blame
For our misconnection
Our departure
Won’t be in vain
If we do it
For the love of love
And our disdain
For a false passion
Carried out
In it’s name

The Space Arc
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
The spaceship
Makes trips
To and from
My favorite planet
Quick!

Yes,
I need
The speed
Of light
Nothing less
I’m already gone!!

Which means
By the time
You’re sight
Reaches my brake lights
I’m already home

Around the universe
In 60 seconds
Without a minute to spare
Seen it all
And some
I ran from
The past
And now
I hold the future
For ransom

Rockets
Are the object
Of my affection
Uplifted
Lifted up
Off the atlas
Pass the atmosphere
Fears
Left at home
With the city
The bright lights
Of a starry night
Guides me
Outside the box
Seeing through
The eyes
Of Galileo
My telescopic vision
See’s earth
As the prison
Of my eternal soul
I’ll start my trip early
And rip
Through the fabric
Of space in time
Before it’s too late
And I’m
Stuck
Buried
On the Planet of Apes

It’s time to evolve
Again
Let’s leave
With our
Artificial wings
Showcase art
Like Apollo
Our Space Arc
Seats 7 billion
If the world’s willing
To rise
Above Earth
And set sail
Across the black sea

The Return
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
Your smile
Breaks the horizon
After a black night
The vaccum
Of space ******
I’m glad
I touched bases
With you
And returned
To earth
The quest
To find myself
Left me lost
Selfishly
I left you
Alone
You selflessly
Let me leave
On the eve
Of our future
Because
You believed
The best
Rested in me
Yes, indeed
And rest assure
Your good deed
Did
Not go unnoticed
Your big heart
Pounds
With the sound
Of a goddess
Your prowess
Makes my poetry
Look like
The dullest prose
I owe
What beauty I have
To you
All I can offer
An exchange
For you staying by my side
Is to never
Alter
Or change again
Because of pride

The High Road
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
The High Road

The abandoned pieces
Of my damaged heart
Lead to a room
Like
Romantic rose petals
That settle
In a final destination
Deep beneath a bed
Made
For rest and peace
The place
Where all dead ends meet
Becoming streets
For those
Who take the high roads
Then fall short
Of their goals
Commonplace
For incompetence
And comics
Of high-achievers
Non-believers
Of self-
Evident features

I do fear the truth…
No I don’t,
Never did,
And never thought about it
I promise
On the premise
Of truth
That lies within me

I’m full of it
And you know it
But the bulls
Can’t bear
To show it

Discombobulated
Joseph Childress Sep 2010
Discombobulated...

"Bob! You late Again!?"
Its not
A statement
You can make
To make her change
The date again

Happy Belated
Birthday celebrations
Embracing
Her forgiveness
As the cure
For your forgets
Forged
Your signature style
Across the lines
Of her smile
As you kiss
With the intent
To signal her bliss
And ignorance

What's in store
For her
Is distortion
This portion of life
Fused with confusion
Contortionist
Twisting
The body
Of lies
With the a prose
That matches
Her pose
Unjustified margins
Never
Crossing the red line
But riding it
Writing with a wit
That could
Split her brain
In half
You call it
The gift a gab

Emotions versus Logic
The verse is
Littered with poetry
Personified
As a woman
Mixed feelings
Remixed
And mastered
To produce
A new product
For you to accept
Instead
You neglect

Her
Collected thoughts
!Implode!
She gathers
The pieces
To gain recollection
Of what happened

To her
To you
To love

She battles
Herself
To win the war
With you

Tie the knot
For christ sake!
Or undue
"To hell
With you!"

She yells
Her voice fails
To really reach you
It takes
Two
To tangle
Not to tango
To tango
Is to dance
And you'd
Miss your step
Every chance
You get

She feels
Obligated
To feel
For her first love
Inoculated
By the drug
That leaves her

Discombobulated...
