Her Morning Proposal
John Velasco Jan 2018
Hours past midnight, the tranquility is prince
I can almost hear a rasp whisper, the moon to the Sun,
"Breakfast is nigh, dear friend. . ."
Gazing beyond the circular window, on this bed
as if resting on a glistening stretch of sand,
Stars in my eyes,
I recall her Beauty, her Strength
her Love, her All.
At rise, my joie de vivre
will wake to the medley of sun-bathed robins,
and with familiar tenderness upon my face
An eternal vow,
Propose in mellifluous whisper -
"Let's have breakfast together, sweetheart."
Sealed by a kiss.

I smile as my hand takes hers.

I lay enamoured,
As a prince prevailing
'Til death do us part.

ALL MINE
John Velasco Jan 2018
At the dinner table

"Please pass the steak. Oops, forgot to pray
I'm hungry, what should I say?
  Amen. How was your day?
I'm hungry, please pass the steak.
  Eeny meeny miny..."

"Dude can you watch your elbows?"

"Moe... Ah, she looks nice and juicy. Oh that reminds me!
Gotta tell you, wow, gorgeous girl, I met, day before this
  Cinnamon shoulders, starry eyes, wow..."

"Hurry with the steak!"

"I got her number, yeah, yeah!"

Ring ring.

  "Total spin-out!
  We met, we laughed
We bought movie tickets, and popcorn too, of course!
  What a blast!"

"Wanna come over for dinner tomorrow night?"

Ding ****.

  "Hi! Come in!"

(kiss, kiss)

  "You're so... salivating!
Better than the steak! Oh, the steak!
Eeny meeny miny moe… Ah, She's perfect!
  Yum! ALLLLL! Mine!"

Oh Cupid
John Velasco Jan 2018
A brash little cupid displaying his game
Shot me an arrow that showed me your name
I asked him, "Hey Cupid, for what does thou say?
A name that's so pretty, please send her my way!"

Then brash little cupid, his eyes blinked blinked twice
Appeared me this lady, her grace without price
I asked, "My fair lady, say what must I do
To win me your heart, attached a love true?"

Oh baby I tell you! The answer she smiled
Sent me to heaven, how Cupid went wild!
Our next endless moments were spent in pure love
While brash little Cupid lay gleaming above.

Sadly...

Too soon of a sudden my dream was awaken
To find not beside me my princess companion
Sad and heartbroken, this dream must come true
For now, know that always, I'm thinking of You...

While Atoms Fiddle
John Velasco Jan 2018
While atoms fiddle in tiny worlds
On man-stained lands of mighty Earth
I wade through life worn thin by thick
Thick holes of moments unhealed and sick

What once I was and what I was once
Seem gone like bullets from speeding guns
Vague understanding; firm expectations
Pronounce all births of incriminations

"You've failed, you're trash, your life's a junk!"
Ignorant indictments where dreams have sunk
No comfort I stare, those majestic stars
Contain my soul in empty jars

Not knowing to turn both left or right
Not sure if I want to keep up this fight,
"Look up," they nudge with voice of men
Like heavenly angels I know as friends

"Redemption, Salvation and Hope and Love,
are Pure and Glorious from Springs above."

To fall and vanish like dust at sea
The past, the doubts, the fears in me
I'll honour the Mighty who made all Man
My strength is His Eternal Plan.

Get The Point?
John Velasco Jan 2018
Trace me a path that leads to the sea
then please turn around and leave me to be.

Go write me a letter and fill it with news
and aim it toward a trashcan you choose.

Please sing me a song to tell that you're near
but know you're never to uncover my ear.

Don't speak of your love if all you do is pretend
for now all I can say is that this reads

The End.

The Blue Rose
John Velasco Jan 2018
The winter frost has still untold
When the blue rose will unfold
The morning breeze, the glittering night
Whispering your beauty as a beautiful sight
Day by day I think of you
Knowing a love between us two
The precious times when you’re at my side
Is an endless craving I have deep inside
When? I ask, still my heart is cold
You’ll allow the blue rose to unfold.

Springtime’s come, the flowers awaken
Birds gladly sing, not once mistaken
The cloudless morning, the golden rays
As warm as your soul that’s seen on your face
Engraved in my heart, your precious name
My desires for you so strong remain
The night that I long when you’re at my side
Is now much stronger on this lonely ride.

Please take my hand my girl of gold and
Watch the beauty of the blue rose unfold.
I wrote this in year 7 (11 years old), for a classmate crush. *feel free to ******

Shatter
John Velasco Jan 2017
His anxiety rides on suspended air
Thoughts deafened by his beating heart
A silent pain, expiring tears
Refract him whole, revealed in part

The shadows sketch his broken dreams
And shatter still with ticking time
A crimson tide, a setting Sun
The vision fades, his eyes resign.

Fireflies
John Velasco Sep 2016
As the night cools in familiar dark
her feet shuffles gently still,
wisps of dust
and glowing embers
tango in entangled flames
They dance and sing
as erupting bark
kiss her cheeks
with crackling laugh
She glows, embraced
a peachy rose,
stars and dreams on
winter eyes.

No Shadow of Doubt
John Velasco Sep 2016
If princesses gathered in one accord
To observe this lady who towered in grace
I'm sure they'd bow and surrender their crowns
With streams of anger running down their face

Cos your darkened dress cast no shadow of doubt
Of beauty deeper than the deepest skin
As it hugged your form with hourglass strength
You knocked the moon from its orderly spin

And that golden piece that hung from your neck
Dazzled as bright as your beautiful eyes
Embracing your flesh like an elegant grin
The jealousy of stars were heard in their cries

You were an utter sight that melted my heart
So lovely, completely, from out to within
I'm thankful God made you and gave you a life
You're daydream material so built for the win.

The Way
John Velasco Sep 2016
Sizzling trees scatter their leaves
along a sun-burnt road, lined with
squinting soldiers, draped in metal,
their muddy sweat-beads dripping
on infant spectators too young to know.
This is not a usual Friday
where cheers
would choke overcrowded inns and dusty playgrounds;
Just
a sea of silence
and shuffling shoulders,
and shiny black crows slicing the air in search for bread.
Even as He anguished it didn't show
For all you'd see is His soaking robe
bleached in Royal red and the occasional
petal clinging for its dear life from that saving Rose.
Too many times He did, falling on merciless stones
as the people wailed and wondered why
no one
would raise Him up.
But those who tried were only held back
like tears that dried on faithless eyes.

You could see in the distant storm
Water starting to fall
to wash the earth free of its sickly grime.
For now, it was like an illusion
A mirage of hope
as He continued carrying a Cross He grew to own.

A Father
A Spirit
A whisper
"I love you."

Though time kept on, it might as well have stood still
for the road was longer than what
the wind had travelled
to join the blessed whose
lives would see
the only Passion
there could ever be.

Trippin' with Angels
John Velasco Sep 2016
My blood flows sideways and slams into walls
Drunk on your beauty, fall flat on the floor
Like racing cars in me, wild butterflies zoom
And hit me like coffee beneath a full moon
Infused with sweet memories, unforgettable smiles
I'm trippin' with angels with feelings so high
The sweetness is cruel, I'm stirred like a tea
Or like goldfish escaping to explore the great sea
The next time we meet, the time must slow down
Cos the moment you left I was drawn with a frown
It's outrageous just knowing on the day of your birth
You've beaten Nutella as the best thing on earth
For now, I'll hang loose, I'll just hang like the bats
And perhaps slain all the kittens cos you're allergic to cats.

Keeper
John Velasco Sep 2016
Catching stars on lonely seas
Left me cold, no air to breath
Shadows long and darkened sight
The Universe falling, lost all its light
Then you came along and opened the seams
You entered my heart and filled it with dreams
Conversations, reflections, you blossomed in words
Unintentional puns and intentional verbs
I put down my sword, you showed me what's right
That love isn't war, I surrendered my fight
The journey of two, penned by the Author of Truth
Is the story I see, your existence my proof
Like paintings come true, your beauty is real
The heart of an angel, resolve cast in steel
Your permission to grant, let me love you with grace
Along with my weaknesses, my strengths and my faith
We'll journey to mountains where moons kiss the earth
And travel in each other as mysteries give birth
Your hand wrapped in mine, your spirit my treasure
I'll protect and I'll lead you, through pain and through pleasure
We'll laugh at the comedies, and cry at atrocities
And talk pure gibberish, along with philosophies
We'll eat like the kings, we'll sit lazy like sand
We'll poke at each other 'til we can no longer stand
I'm humbled, my love, that you've finally come
We'll live through eternity as two become one
My promise is yours, your loveliness mine
Let's start this adventure through space and through time.

His Story
John Velasco Sep 2016
The wooden aroma of time-stained pages
Breathe life to shadows of golden ages
They tell of stars observing our lands
And brilliance that shaped such minds and such hands
With passion, adventure, deep hunger, resolve
Sought knowledge and power no time could dissolve
True faith and virtue, bold science and arts
Our foundations were dreamt in the most stalwart of hearts
Their soundtrack is us, this life as we know
Alive and exploring all life has to show

As births of new babes, in love so conceived
Live lives unchosen in this moment received
Their chapters will blossom in solitude souls
To discover their reasons and magnificent roles
Each life is a treasure by choice and design
A legacy made before that hour resigned
Let's inspire each other, let's cherish this gift
And break all difference that cause us to drift
Our personal story will never repeat
But find rest in His Story, a journey complete.

Strangers
John Velasco Jan 2013
Sitting a row in front, her forehead rests on a tanned hand
perhaps in simple boredom, her thoughts
caged in by the rays of sunlight washing her brunette hair.
The train rattles on, passing empty shopfronts
and two boys racing each other on bicycles
I yawn, breathing the laziness around
'I could sit next to her' I imagine
my eyes fixed on her delicate eyelashes, but
foolishness is embarrassing
so I yawn again.
If love could be defined, it certainly cannot be
two strangers with unacquainted hearts.
That's not love - that's a childish crush, a fatal attraction,
an act of stalking!
Sigh.
OH she's leaving. Wait
Beauty.. Heaven.. Strawberries..!
You.. Me.. love.. Love!

Oceans Apart
John Velasco Jan 2013
Can you see me from your distant presence?
I feel irrelevant
as you navigate your own way
through self-directed courses
under the vast sky
courageous, determined
In my mind I always believed myself to be
your faithful watchtower
Leading you safely from Life's perils into my secure surround
I ask, do you still trust me?
Restless,
I attempt to re-capture you with a glaring intensity
I anticipate, hoping you'd
notice
But you don't respond.
I feel sunken, an eerie darkness, as you steer away
Your sights toward the moonlit horizon
And now it seems
we're
oceans apart.
Hopeless, I'm left standing
Alone
like a lighthouse.

Relevancy
John Velasco Jan 2013
Can you see, the relevancy
Of you and me beneath this tree
This Cross of life that came to be
When a lie was told, so sinfully

For you and I, from babe to old
Will learn a truth that had once been told
That our hearts and minds had once been sold
To a devilish prince, who had once been gold

But now he lurks like twisted vines
Into the world's unsuspecting minds
To plant more lies, deceives, reminds
That we're worthless junk with sins of kinds

Don't listen, don't hear, just close your eyes
Instead set heart to heavenly skies
Where all nature sings a praise that rise
To glorify a King so eternal wise

This King is God, who so loved us all
He sent His Son to catch our fall
With all His might, His blood, His all
Gave His beautiful Name for us to call

So make today that day you make
A decision that'll make your spirit wake
Believe in Jesus who will powerfully take
Your pain, your death, your fiery lake

This life is short, don't wait to die
When it's way too late to even try
To turn around and say goodbye
To a life of pain not worth your while

So can you see the relevancy
Of you and me redeemed, set free
Released in faith to truly see
Our hearts are God's, eternally.

Ironic When Brave
John Velasco Jan 2013
This beating heart is an ironic cage
Nestled in skins so fragile when brave
Knowing no limits with magic so tall
I trip on illusions and catastrophically fall
Yet I'll continue to hope, she's a wonderful star
Though never to catch her, she's simply too far
True, heaven's the limit and vast is the sky
But it's simply too foolish to think I can fly
The dream will live on, perhaps she'll fall from her place
And I'll be ready to catch her, with some charm and some grace
So I'll wait from a galaxy in a mysterious cave
And keep making adventures so ironic when brave.

Silly Tummy
John Velasco Jan 2013
Inspiration coming and
going and sometimes
dying...
Unless! It
transforms into cascading
words mimicking a
Decorated Commander
demanding respect, and
Attention! Sit up straight
or I'll whack your back
with my poetic hat
What's up with that? You
changed the subject in the middle of
my tummy is
a belly button
that dances silly
until inspiration
dies,
dies,
DIES!!!

Be Like Zac
John Velasco Jan 2013
You see as a boy, I never grew tall
Got teased by the locals, the names they would call
Tired of this cruelty, I pursued this one dream
To become important and held in esteem
So I became a tax-collector, so impressed with my pay
To afford all the happiness to last night and day.

To be brutally honest, my judgment was wrong
No friends came to greet me, no one sang me a song
In darkness I lay weary, just gazing the sky
And wondered if ever my tears would run dry
Then I heard about Jesus, who'd walk through our roads
And do great wonders, to unburden our loads.

So in a fit of excitement, I pushed through the crowd
And climbed up a tree, as my height was not loud
He looked up and He summoned for me to come down
As He wanted to pass me that beautiful Crown
I wept as He told me He loved me within
New life has embraced me, set free from my sin.

Southbound
John Velasco Jan 2013
A whisper of questions, far twinkling light
Seems like heaven's a'near with folly delight
In rage, I'm running, wading through vacuums
Confused emotions, all shadowy glooms
No stopping now, I pant with sweat
Desperate for answers, not painful regret
Step three, step four, the move finds no sleep
All chains and bondages, this life seem to keep
Find meaning, find purpose, no reasonable doubt
As mist, yes mystical, this life will head south
Like winter surprise, the dew and the frost
Bites eagerly at a soul so wastefully lost
Why darkness, not light? This seems but a game
Haunted by lies, unpurposeful shame
Delight, sweet caress, how precious such needs
Lost in this world of selfish and greeds
Alas, a green exit, blinding light, my eyes seeing
That tunnel, yes peaceful, of rest in peace being.

Gone
John Velasco Jan 2013
My tears replay on lonely days
With thoughts of you in shades of blue
Swept off your feet in princely dreams
I dance alone and sing this tune
The winds blow cold despite your smile
I feel your warmth, it lasts awhile
'Til cloudy days, approaching grays
Turn sunshine rays into darkened moons

I cry in pain like shards of rain
They drench my mind in twisted knots
The rule of love disrupts all hope
As poison ivy reclaim my thoughts
Your response is cold as truth unfolds
My heart erupts, yours closes shut
Into a world where lovers drown,
Now 'you and I' are truly gone.

Hide and Don't Speak
John Velasco Jan 2013
In a hidden corner, I quietly stand
My head bowed down, my eyes stare low
I hear stomping of feet, disorderly screams
Like ones that pierce in unfortunate dreams
My breath grows heavy
My heart, it complains
In isolation, I feel so estranged
"What if I'm found?", I tense with great fear
"Then all would be over." Like death coming near
(silence)

Then quicker than lightning
my chest gets a hit
and with sinister laughter
he announces,
"YOU'RE IT!"

Cry
John Velasco Jan 2013
Cry
We hurt because we have a heart
Moulded from tears God shed
When He said, "I love you"
And as we go about our own ways
Oblivious to the Golden Rule
Our hearts weep a
stale stream of abandoned love
Suddenly,
the world is empty,
our vulnerability revealed
As angels whisper,
"Cry."

Of Life
John Velasco Jan 2013
Beyond this art, the depths of heart
will yearn for deep and sense complete
the answers to questions from ages asked,
for why or reason the mouth does breath.
A life to live
from morn to night
to seek to find the source of light, as
swords confer on bended knees
the valiant courage to cross the seas...
To find, to find, with stars a'watch
angelic tears from clouds a'drop,
as visions clear, horizons queue
blue heavens greet,
Eternal beau...

And while moons reflect the truths of suns
and waves complete their yearly runs,
new babies awake in late July
to grow and laugh as reindeers fly...
Grow old, they may,
and whisper ask
remove, corroded, those withered masks,
what's left are songs so vivid strong
of love that longs forgiven wrongs.
In turn, all men all stop to pause
creating moments to engage a thought,
but despite it all, the soul is lost
as answers reveal, return all nought.

Just pray and learn, yes live and laugh
And know that God forgives the past, and
Ask, believe,
by grace receive,
Of life, of life, of life at last.

You're beautiful.
