Please
Read no further if you don't like
Who I am
And who I am
Is constantly
Changing
I shift with the tide on the blackest nights
I move with the waters
Sway like the branches
Blow like the wind
And I never know
Never ever
If I'm coming or
Leaving

So hear me now
And listen close
Put on your spectacles
If you need to
But what I'm saying here
Is change
Change
Shift
Transformation
It's been said a million times before
And it'll be said a million times after this
But when are we going to change?
Not just me
and not just you
And not just your family
and your neighbors and
your teachers
and cousins and
grandparents
I mean us
As a whole
As a complete and full circle
When are we going to break the cycle
Of what we think works
And realize it just
Isn't
And implement a new process
A new line of thought
An "experimental" approach, say?
Now people don't like that word
Because people are scared of change
And they don't believe in taking chances or risks or putting their own ***** on the line but come on!
When are we going to realize that living the same old way
In the same old house
Thinking the same old thoughts
With the same old brains
Is getting us nowhere?

In the early mornings
When the Sun comes through the blinds
You'd think that I'd be yearning
For my stress to unwind
But you'd be wrong, wrong, wrong
I'm doing just fine, yeah
And because of that I wrote this song

It's hard to remember what the Sun feels like
When it's cloudy and the wind burns your skin
But you've got to take a picture with your mind
You can never appreciate loss when you win all the time
So soak it it, soak in everything with all you've got
Let the though and emotion and words come to you
I don't get why everyone wants to be a robot
These days

Sit down, take off your shoes
Breathe in, you've got nothing to lose
It's in your head, you're in my bed
"I love you so much" is what I said
Breathe in

Take everything in your life
And change into everything
Everything you thought you were missing
Just listen

Nothing is all that hard
Once you get around to doing it
Those doubts in your head are transparent
Your job is to stop them from blaring

When you're on the outs
Reexamine what you give and what you're given
It's usually just about the same amount
So the next time your pout, think about that

Putting your ear to the ground
And breathing in and just waiting
Is no waste of time, it's time well spent
Everyone is capable of seeing around the bend

I will rob you of your vitality
I am not your spirit tutelary
Crush your bones and eat your heart
You were wrong from the start
Should've heard your mothers words
Shouldn't have fell in with the rest of the herd

I'm talking to you
The one who thought he won
Let these words stick like glue
You were just in it for the fun
it's time to open your ******* eyes

People have died yeah they're already gone
But you you're still here breathing next to me
What? What the **** makes you better? What the **** are you on?
Just step your ego to the side and just give yourself a chance to see
So many people claim to be open and accepting
But at the end of the road their brains are nothing but alocked doors

There lies a stillness inside each of us
And you can reach the valley if you just **** the fuss
Nothing is accomplished through force and just stays
For the rage that feeds on this,
upon the highest perch lays
So clench your fists tightly and open them up again
Slowly you'll learn that your voice hasn't been sent - yet

In this day and age
It's 2014
That's fourteen years
Past 2000
Yes
Count them
F o u r t e e n
Years into the twenty first century
The century of space
According to film and literature
The century of progress
And the century of new ideas

Keeping this in mind
It's a wonder that everyone
And everything, by association
Seems to still be hypnotized
In my country at least
I love where I live
And I believe it's one of the greatest places
To grow and to learn and to teach
But I think more people ought to start thinking
And thinking about old ideas
And the concept of materialism
And the ideas of progress and prosperity

Hate only creates more hate
No?
Just look at any hate filled person
To ever exist
They hated
And then people hated them
For, in turn, hating them in the first place
It's a never ending cycle
Of persecution
And devastation
And extermination

On the other hand
We have love
Love plus love
Equal?
More love
That's right
And the only thing
The only power
In this world
That we all have in equal measure
Is the propensity
To love
And with love comes progress
And with love and progress
Comes
More love and progress
And things we can't even imagine

Because the whole world seems to be
Hypnotized
By this age old idea of hating
And limiting their own beliefs
To the point of catatonia
And never ending
Nonstop
Progress-halting
Dead ends

So I'm just saying
And that's all I'm really doing
Writing this right now
For nothing more than to perhaps get someone to read it
And say
Hey
Maybe this is the truth
Maybe this is he way
Maybe if I do something good
I'll start to feel a little better?
Maybe
If I try to do the best I can
Every day
Breaking free of whatever gains may lay in wait for me
And just embracing the power of whatever it is that guides us
That keeps us spinning on that mysteries axis
Floating through space at blinding speeds
Will help us out in the end
Because
In the end
At the last breath
And the last drop
And the last time we close our eyes
All we'll have
Is love

If that's what we choose
John Feb 2014
If you want to live
Then you have to die
And if you want to smile
Then you have to cry
Just listen to the ground
And kiss the roots of trees
For your head used to pound
Until you allowed yourself to see
John Feb 2014
The way you talk to me reminds me
It brings to the front of my mind how
I used to be when everybody and everything
Were doused in that acid washed black and white
You really make those feelings wash ashore
In a part if me I never knew was there
Like the colors no one can see

So don't stop no don't stop tonight
There'd be no reason to put up a fight
But I'm going to I'm going to try
Because I love it when you pretend to cry
I hate to see you cry, because I'm always the one to die

Selfish thoughts are the fuel of the lonely mariner
Sailing seas blinded by the light of the carrier
That holds his child clutched tightly in arm
And the memories of childhood on grandpa's farm
Oh how the flashes get clearer and eyes get tired
The seas get chaotic the more you become hard wired
So step away, take a long and hard look
Look away and know that everyone is born a crook
