Darkness came before the sun fell,
I never saw the eclipse in your heart
Fate turned you against me quietly,
Like the flattered fool I played my part

From the depths of surrender you resurrected grace,
My siren song, your heartbeat
Only I never understood exactly what I had become,
Just a convenient source of heat
Fire and light were born in the space between our eyes,
My soul the freely given fuel
But ice found purchase, in the abyss underneath lust,
Driving love into a frozen pool
Kicking furiously, driven by some Romeo complex,
I would have reached dry land
Yet as my eyes dropped below the surface I saw you.
And you never reached out a hand.

My eyes have betrayed me before though, love.
And I'm willing to assume they have again...
Our kiss is more important than our lips now,
A symbol of something that's never been.

My words are a never-ending ocean of instability,
Dark water like cursed wine
And at this Mass of souls I'll remain in sin gladly,
If only you are still truly mine
Because the words are something more than I am,
Clutching blindly at your sadness
They are the eternal record of your perfect beauty,
And a chronicle of my madness
I once believed that I could stop the world for you,
That such power would win you;
But my faith was never enough to break destiny,
And, in my heart, I always knew.

So when the first flowers of hope are finally dead,
And you have already forgotten my eyes;
I only hope one constant truth remains with you,
None of my promises were intentional lies.
Remember, when you feel thunder shake the world,
That something like this never truly dies.

There was a brief moment where life itself skipped a beat,
It was as if the entire universe took a deep breath;
before continuing on its course to almost certain defeat
And in that moment everything shifted
Imperceptibly, to a new heading.

Afterwards, even as the infinite variations on reality
shuddered through time and space
My vision dimmed, a flicker of existential panic;
and the only hint of the act taking place.

This tiny vibration, a tremor
Like the warm fraction of a shadow of a breath,
hanging for a second after someone leaves the room
Plays itself as fleeting phantoms of possiblities.
And then she blinks.

The worst part of this is the knowledge I deny.
The sick, surrending self to circumstance is the real me,
the one who always was inclined to play with fire.
I know what she is capable of, despite what I see;

The pure kinetic force of her power over me
Leaves fractured pieces and frayed edges in my head
And I've known all along I'm out of my league
A predator grin hides behind her shy smile
Words come out wrong like promises from the dead
And my shame is knowing and denying so

It doesn't stop me playing her game of trust and lies
Because in a joke of a destiny I was meant for this.
She is the widow spider, demons in her lustful eyes
Aware of the ending scene, still I greet the execution,
Helpless and mute as if it was my first sunrise.

And in her own way she is something worse
than the darkness inside her, destroying the used
In the chaos of the pleasure it brings her,
She becomes a collapsing angel, tainted and confused

You are the final piece to this mismatched symphony...
crafted shy of perfect and meant to align me.
But I'm ignoring the cues and warping the lines.

Show me where God ordained the signs.
I'm playing jokers against a queen of hearts

It's a dramatic scene, no one knows their parts
You laugh, the chorus of angels; and kiss me
And It's the alternative utopian reality of heaven I see

Where liars and poets speak of emotion
And religion provides a cleansing ocean
Just inside the constraints of definition

You show me life from a cynic's rendition
And I subscribe with reckless abandon

This pathetic shadow is my chosen stand in
Once the forecast changes you'll be gone
And so will I, the rock the lie was built upon

The storm rolled in behind dusk
A single peal of thunder sounded
In the echoes two hearts pounded

For one moment you were mine
Our souls colliding like the rain
Lust washing away every pain

But then a flash of lightning
Lit the lie we built love upon
And with it, you were gone

I will hear thunder forever
And always remember you
With sorrow in skies blue
