I am a 'before' picture
in an advert for a miracle diet plan,
I'm the indentation too-tight socks leave
around your ankles,
I am wearing too many layers in summer
and too few in winter,
I am chapped lips
and itchy backs
and paper cuts,
I am the stubble coating unshaven legs,
I am stubbing your toe
or bashing your funny bone,
I am not a poet
and it is not poetic.

I would like to write now, the
problem is I don't have anything to write about.
I don't want to write about something I neither
have a clue nor care about, but
I don't really care strongly enough about
anything. Also,
I'm getting worse at rhyming.

Just it would if you asked it to.
I'm not saying the birds call out your name,
But it sounds that way all the same.

by the way you stare so longingly
at that girl sat suggestively upon your knee.
