Moment In Time
John Prophet Dec 2016
Photographs are time machines to the past.
Instant moments in time reflecting back to current eyes.
A street scene of Boston is hung on my wall, a moment sliced
out of time from 1893.

Trolley cars side by side waggling down the street.
Ladies clothed from the sky to the ground bustling around town.
The gents of the day striding along suited with the clicking of their canes.
Horses pulling carriages, delivering produce, moving people here and there while leaving earthy aromatic gifts all around.

Trees in the park that are still there today, leaving shadow memories on the ground.

Each and every person in the scene has a story to tell, they each lived
their lives to the tune of the day.

Each started that day, one day in their lives, they loved, they laughed, they cried and they cheered at the game.
Children in the park running playing just the same.

All gone now, just a moment long past.

Little knowing this moment of their existence would be captured and hung on my wall as a testament to their brief moment in time.
John Prophet Dec 2016
Some say it all started with a violent explosion, let there be light, a Big Bang. White hot plasma swirling around expanding in an amazing bound. After a while things cooled, came together, began to slow down. Hydrogen and helium gas began to collect when gravity made itself felt. Closer and hotter the gases became then sparked into light as the first stars were found. The alchemy of the Stars then occurred creating all the elements. More explosions, star death spewing the periodic table into space. Again and again the cycle occurred until enough was around. Now planets grew filled with the stuff. Comets asteroids smashing in mixing things up.
Then it happened, no one’s sure how, but life came in with hardly a sound. Life grew, fought and killed to to keep its head up. All along the evolution curve death an extinction can be found. Asteroids crashing in to change things around.
Death and destruction even today, man against man, the evolution of creation in full three D display.

How Can They Possibly Know
John Prophet Dec 2016
How will it change when we know?
How will civilization be rearranged?
All that we known comes from one place and time,
one little speck in spacetime.
Great religions over eons have arisen telling all how things must certainly be.
But they are just specks on a speck, and knowledge potentially infinite, how much can they possibly know.
Have faith they say and follow our lead, but how much can they possibly know?
They say, we surely know because God has told us so.
What can you say? How can you answer that? If God really told them so.
The problem you see is not all religions agree, seems god’s message is different from one to the next somehow. How can that possibly be?
For the infinite knowledge to be had, and our brain power to process so small, there is no way to know much at all.
Some day and maybe soon our technology may come alive or some others come to say hi. Then everything changes, but no one can really say how.

What Is Love
John Prophet Dec 2016
Why do we feel love?
Do we even know what loves is?
How do you know when we’re in love?
Does anyone really know?
Songs have been sung about love for thousands of years.
Stories, poems, books and movies flood our senses about love.
We are obsessed about love. We are lonely without it and confused when in love.
There is love for your parents, love for your children even love for your pets. But it’s romantic love that fogs up our heads.
Why do people fall out of love? Where they ever really in love?
Is in just about making babies, survival of the species? Is it just about hormones flushing through our systems that riles us up? Is it just about companionship for when we get old?
How many times have you asked yourself or been asked by others,
how do I know when I’m in love? Some have said, you’ll just know it when you are. Never really understood that reply. A better answer I think, if you have to ask you’re not in love. Sorry but that’s the best I can do, after that it’s all up to you.

Humans Must Be Crazy
John Prophet Dec 2016
Our race against extinction.
We all come from the same cradle.
Though we think ourselves mature.
Our childish and petty ways are truly obscene.
We are products of our environment, fine tuned
to fit the scene. Some are black with ***** hair
designed to mitigate the sun and dissipate heat.
Some are white with flat hair like a rug designed to accentuate
the sun and hold in the heat. One evolved in a hot sunny world
where too much sun and heat were harmful, so the body adapts to better succeed.
One comes from a cold, less sunny environment, so adapted to absorb more sun an retain the heat, both the body needs.
Both simply adaptations to succeed in where they live.
For years and years and still today these adaptations are held against
some, that’s truly insane. Indeed!
We now live in a world full of us in every possible nook.
One small orb in space that we humans habitate.
Much need and want around the world where people suffer and
die for lack of humanity. We spend billions each year on weaponry, money that could be better spent, to protect ourselves from ourselves. Insanity to the brink.
How have we managed to last this long is surly a mystery. Will we grow up in time before we are history?

What's The Point
John Prophet Dec 2016
Why do we exist?
What’s the point really?
Are we here to have fun?
Are we here to accomplish something?
Are we here to hurt?
We are dropped off on one end of a conveyor belt then
chug along as the conveyor takes us for a ride to eventually tosses us off the other side.
Along the way we are taught things, we are told to do things, we
learn, we work, we play, we suffer loss, we laugh, we cry, we love and we hate.

Along the way some help others some hurt others. Some cheat, some lie, some step over others, some give others a helping hand.

Some think at the end of the ride there’s a reward or punishment for
how we behaved. Some think life is a test.

Some are afraid the end means just that, the end, once tossed off
we cease to exist our conscious evaporates into the ether.

No one really knows for sure. Some will say they know, but they really do not. Seems to me, if, at the end, as you’re about to be tossed off you can look yourself in the mirror and know you left the place a little better than you found it, then the ride had purpose it had meaning.

That should be reward enough.

Time Illusion
John Prophet Dec 2016
What is time?
Is it something we have?
Was it granted to us from the great beyond?
What do we do with time? I mean, we only have so much of it.
Is time an illusion, something not really there?
Are we an illusion, Just a view in the mirror, nothing more?
Are we just shadows on a cave wall, reflections of a different place?
Are we really we or just an avatar of someone more?

Joy Of Aging
John Prophet Dec 2016
The world slows down.
That’s a good thing.
Priorities change, also good.
The rat race fades into memory.
It’s now time to appreciate things.
Let the next generation battle to climb the ladder,
keep their heads above water.
Time for walks with the dog, stoping to smell the flowers.
The body creaks where it didn’t before but the wisdom gain
more than compensates.
Reading and learning still much fun.
Smile at the young ones as they expound, knowing
time and experience mellow their sound.
Enjoy the children, appreciate the miracle, then smile when handing them back.
Reflective walks in the woods wondering what other paths you could have followed. Then realizing though, the one you chose lead you into the woods.
As time passes on and the young ones grow old, it’s important to remember, we had our time, our time in the sun.
Prepare to move on, our time is now done.

Rise Of Humanity
John Prophet Dec 2016
When humanity first became aware, the world was a scary dangerous place.
Everything was a mystery, nothing but survival at stake.
We created gods to help us make sense.
Gods became the catchall to explain the unknown.
Gods became religions to hold things in place, to offer control.
Due to human isolation, religions evolved differently all over the place.
From the gods in Valhalla to the ones in the sea.
We all had different ideas of what the gods must truly be.
Religious wars down through the ages killing millions in the name of god, what a disgrace.
Today, humanity is spread around the globe, hundreds of religions all over the place.
Killing, still to this day because god wants it that way some would have you believe.
The naivety of humanity just stunning to see.
No one truly knows the Creators intent, though many religions would tell you they do.
Power and control is all they really know. The few telling the many what to believe.
The world can no longer go on in this way.
Religions are constructs made up in human minds, difference due to many things.
Somehow I wonder if the Creator would really want to see us behave in this way.
There’s is no guarantee the Creator made an afterlife you see.
It’s a comfort to think so but there’s no guarantee.
One wonders if the Creator has turned away after seeing what we’ve done to each other and our place.
As we move forward in time business as usual will only enhance our disgrace.
Humanity must unite under one common theme, humanity for humanity’s sake it must be.
We must grow and mature as soon as we can. Treating each other and our world with respect and dignity. There are many who would smile and call this naive.
We must smile in return at their immaturity, realizing their way is now done, from here a dead end.
Would our creator be displeased if we evolved in this way?
How could that possibly be?

Perspective And The Journey
John Prophet Dec 2016
Our Universe is unimaginably large.
Tendrils of galaxies spreading out in every direction as far as the eye can see. Hundreds of millions in every direction. Some estimates suggest there could be 500 billion galaxies in our universe. Each galaxy contains hundreds of billions of stars.
Many now believe our universe is but one in an ever-expanding multiverse of limitless size and age.

We live our lives on a mote of material small beyond definition.
How do we square this reality? How do we keep things in perspective? What’s the point really? We are just specks on a speck.

Organized human civilization is maybe 10,000 years old. The industrial revolution only 200 years old, we believed 100 years ago our galaxy was the universe.

Our understanding of reality has come far yet it’s just a pinpoint on an infinite scale of knowledge.

The point I guess is the journey, keeping our existence in perspective, staying humble and keep pushing the envelope of our knowledge.

One Planet Many Worlds
John Prophet Dec 2016
Earth is home for billions of us, we live on one planet, we all call it home.
None of us, however, live in the same world.
The worlds we live in are as varied
as the people that inhabit them.
Some live in heaven others call hell their home, many live in limbo made simply to roam.
No two worlds are exactly the same.
Some are healthy while others in pain.
Some are rich many are poor.
Some live in freedom others detained.
Some are happy while many are sad.
This planet has many worlds, none are the same.
Some are gregarious others simply plain.
Some are geniuse while others insane.
Each one with their own story to tell.
History is replete with such worlds, no two are the same.

Bird Talk
John Prophet Dec 2016
I hear the birds talking to me.
Chickadee, Chickadee, Chickadee Dee Dee Dee.
This one is telling me his name.
As I take my walks with my dog Rosie up by the orchard on the hill,
I hear another bird saying thank you, thank you, thank you.
As if he was happy to be alive.
As we continue our walk I hear another saying let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.
Sounds like he’s asking his troop to move on.
If you take time to slow down get out of the rat race for a time,
you can hear Mother Earth Gaia talking to you in so many ways.

The Coming Storm
John Prophet Dec 2016
Change is happening rapidly.
It will only seed up!
Humanity’s in the grip of explosive rearrangement.
How we handle it will be interesting to watch.
Some will get involved, attach it to themselves.
Others will pull away not wanting to lose their humanity.
Technology will be ever present, taking over our lives.
There will be no escaping it.
You may move to the country in an an attempt to get away.
To no avail. It will find you and absorb you as with everyone else.
The question is, will it be nirvana or will it be hell?
I guess only time will tell!

Orchard On A Hill
John Prophet Dec 2016
Splashes of green lined up row after row.
Limbs of green shooting skyward downward everywhere.
Vibrant light shades of newness this time every year,
each displaying its own quaint uniqueness. Explosions of color as Spring rolls around.
As the winds blow hot, green takes on a mature look.
Little orbs of green begin to appear, growing larger redder, same as last year.
Big red plumpness filled up by the rain.
Limbs droop and groan as the weight of the task made increasingly clear.

Warm winds give way to their northern brethren, blowing cooler and stronger.
Limbs pregnant with swollen redness moan waiting, wanting
to expel the burden, as it does every year.
Leaves darken, grow crunchy and float to the ground.
Redness has spread from sky to ground, as colder stronger winds begin to expound.

Straight lined scraggly row after row, hunched over old women worn down by the snow.
Limbs whipping in cold wind like witches hair,
gnarly bent fingers pointing, accusing everywhere.
Dark skies in control.

Old women waiting, waiting for warm winds to reappear to be once again made fruitful, as it was just last year.

How Else Could It Have Gone
John Prophet Dec 2016
How far back do you wish to go?
Could the universe have failed to Big Bang?
Could the galaxies have all failed to form?
Could the sun have failed to be born?
Could the moon have been to small?
Could it have failed to form at all?
Could life have been still born?
Could the asteroid have passed us by?
Could Eve have been to shy?
Could Neanderthals have won the day.
Could the Vikings have held sway?
Could Columbus been sunk at sea?
Could the Pilgrims have stayed at home?
Could the Revolution have failed in vain?
Could Marie Antoinette have kept her head?
Could the South have won the war?
Could the Titanic have stayed afloat?
Could **** Germany have prevailed?
Do infinite realities indeed exist?
Has everything in fact occurred?
Where does it all go from here?

Vivid Red Barn
John Prophet Dec 2016
Vivid red barn juxtaposed against a green pumpkin field.
Cloudless sky with bright sun hurt my eyes.
Starkness of the scene burnt into my mind.
Beautiful!
Time passes.
Sun lowers in the sky with fat orange orbs all around.
Bright reds, yellows and orange ornate the trees.
Hayride swinging through.
Artist easel in the field.
A painting just waiting to be alive.
Sun lowers still.
Winter, snow deep, cold white drifting toward the barn, glistening.
Snow Hare tracks everywhere. Black crows in the sky warning out their calls.
Mud season, sun moves higher in the sky banishing the white until next year.
Sun, still on the move.
New baby green in the field reappears.
Cycle continues year after year

Simplify
John Prophet Dec 2016
Some say less is really more, or is it more is really less.
I believe both to be true.
The future screams towards us faster every day.
The pace and complexity of life quickens.
Technology more pervasive.
The human psyche bombarded like never before.
Global news 24/7, the internet always up-dating.
None stop information flowing through our brains.
We now make more decisions in a day than those one hundreds years
ago made in a week or a month.
Competition in life and at work like never before.
How much more can we take? How much faster can we absorb before we seize up and break?
Balance is what we need, time to unplug and refresh.
Step away from the onslaught whenever you can, or the psych wards
and on drugs is where you’ll be found.
Meditate as if your sanity depends on it.
It just may.

How Much Is Up To Us
John Prophet Dec 2016
Do we really have free will, or are we preprogrammed
to be who we are to be?
Being born a boy or a girl did we have any say?
Hormones in my body that motivate were not ordered by me.
Everything about me genetically controlled.
My height, my hair, my eyes, be I black, white, yellow, brown, or my personality, not requested,
we’re out of my control.
What part of me is really me?
What part of me do I actually control?
What does mean to be me?
Where I was born predetermined,
was I born German, Italian or English no choice did I have.
The culture I was born into Arab, Jew determined my enemies.
How much was in my control?
My religion given to me, an accident of birth.
True enough, we have some voice to modify but most of it given to us.
The story’s been written, all the players designed and preprogrammed.
The role I play on the grand stage of life has been determined by someone other than me.

What Are We.
John Prophet Dec 2016
We are just bags of meat and water.
Then why the consciousness?
Consciousness is indeed a mystery.
Does consciousness come from somewhere else and just
inhabits our minds? Are our minds simply like a radio receiver collecting the signal/consciousness from some other realm?
Where does it go after the meat and water fall apart?
Does it fade into the ether never to be see again, or does it move
on and inhabit another reality?
Some will say they know the answer to that question, but they really do not.
For my two cents, I think our consciousness came to our bodies from another reality and will move on to another when we die.
Maybe I feel that way because it offers me some comfort, perhaps, but I don’t think so.
No one knows for sure, but, I think it is a possibility.

Religion is Philosophy
John Prophet Dec 2016
Great Maker beyond human knowledge.
Our time is short.
Our knowledge finite.
Reality infinite.
We struggle to understand.
We create structure to make it so.
We build and grow the best we can.
It’s a struggle every day you know.
We are born one day and there it is.
How to make sense we struggle to do.
We organize come together in groups.
We create systems to help see us through.
Political, language, business, social and religious to name a few.
Each system designed to meet a need.
Each system gives us structure, something to help us along.
Helps us make sense, gives us control in our finite little place.
Religion as with government is a process of arrangement.
Religion is a philosophy, nothing more, as the Great Maker’s mind is beyond our control.
There are those who say they understand because the Great Maker told them so.
That’s impossible you see, the Great Maker’s mind for us is impossible to know.

Wisdom
John Prophet Dec 2016
What is it that gives some people power and others none?
Why is it some use power to hurt while others to help?
Why are some imbued with a will that can dominate?
Using it as a power to keep people subdued.
Power can be peaceful.
Power can be a war state.
There have been those with such will and power they jolted the world.
Why do humans abuse power, use it to subjugate?
Whole societies use it to keep ” lesser born” in place.
The power to evil is easy to see, killing millions
to rule the world.
The power to peace and kindness can also be abused, witness
millions being slaughtered in the name of God, religion and peace.
Power to gain riches at the detriment to others.
Look to the school yards to see some pushing others around musing
they will be different when they’re grown. They seldom are!
There have been some who give up earthly possessions to move the
needle toward love and understanding, but, they are few and far
between and even they can be taken down.
Most feel better when others fail, makes them feel superior somehow.
Wisdom and maturity is the key to turning things around.
Humanity has a long way to go before both will be found!
Lack of maturity and wisdom could be the great filter that takes us all down.

Spiritualism And Humanism
John Prophet Dec 2016
What do you believe and why do you believe it?
Our world has shaped who we are physically and spiritually.
We are different colors, speak different languages and have different gods based on where we were born. The accident of birth, location and topography determined who we are.
Our differences caused us to war.
Humanity’s social evolution is what we must see, the frictions of difference slowly beginning to fade. Humans being human to each other is how we must go. Humanism beginning to grow. Differences in beliefs can be poison to our cause. My religion is better than your religion is juvenile at best. Wars and mass murders is what we receive when this is how we perceive.
Spirituality is important to the human soul, it nourishes our existence keeps us balanced in so many ways. Would the Great Maker be displeased if our philosophy was to live a spiritual life connected to Gaia respecting who we are and each other; living the golden rule in harmony. Somehow I think not.

Computer Simulation
John Prophet Dec 2016
Some say we live in a computer simulation.
A simulation run by others further along.
Our sentients is just as real as theirs.
“I think therefore I am.”
If this is true, what do we do?
Some interesting possibilities could be true.
Could we live simulated lives ad infinitum?
If simulated here could we be simulated anywhere?
Could this be a game and we’re judged by results?
Could there be consequence for how we behave?
Could Heaven and Hell actually be real?
Might want to plan accordingly.
John Prophet Dec 2016
The debate has been raging for centuries.
Where do we come from?
Why are we here?
Where are we going?
Is there a Creator?
We look around and see created things,
intricate, complicated, sophisticated things.
Creationism, evolution which one is true?
They both are actually.
We were created in a machine we call the universe.
It had the raw materials and the energy needed to produce
the universe we see, including us.
It had gravity, the laws of physics and mathematics, the software needed to organize both. Once the machine was turned on all the elements of creation were in place, it then evolved to now.
Evolution is the tool of the Creator.
The Universe evolved from three simple gases to stars to galaxies to the periodic table we see today.
Life evolved from single cell creatures to the human race.
Evolution is the tool of the Creator.

Exponential Change
John Prophet Dec 2016
Will the Twenty First Century be the end for **** Sapiens?
Can human minds and psyches stand up to the speed of change being metered out?
Today, we make more decisions in a day than were made one hundred years ago in a week. Where does it go from here?
How does a mind that was designed to procreate and survive in the wilderness deal with the ever increasing complexity of the Twenty First Century?
Specialization enabled the dilution of the pressure amongst the inhabitants, but this is being saturated. Machines and computers were able to diffuse the onslaught for a time, but this too is running its course. In fact, these adaptations are now adding to the dilemma.
Psychological coping mechanisms being stretched to the breaking point.
Can humans meld with their technology enabling a quantum leap in coping capabilities, or will this simply drive people insane?
Will we simply off load everything to technology leaving us all free to focus on creativity ignoring the rest?
For us to survive and thrive I think plan B is the best.

Humanities Redemption
John Prophet Dec 2016
What does it mean to be human?
Are we just animals or evolving to become something more?
Are we victims to our basic instincts unable to push back and mature?
Do our passions control our minds or can our minds control our passions?
Is our intellect held ransom by our biology, millions of years in the making?
Can the passions of the animal be countered by our intellect and sentience?
Will society devolve back with our passions holding sway?
Can our intellect understand the animal, desire to move on, thus show us the way?
Was religion just a means of holding our passions in check holding the animal at bay?
Will our machines become sentient with no passions involved, with no hormones to befuddle?
Will they see us as flawed with no hope for redemption.
The battle rages on with no end in site.
The fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

Years Long Past
John Prophet Dec 2016
I walk past the old football field, empty, no gladiators, no cheering crowds.
PUSH THEM BACK, PUSH THEM BACK, PUSH THEM WAAAAY BACK!
Just echoes of the games once played. Just memories of those standing, watching the turmoil on the field of battle, young warriors in their armor girded for war.
Distant images of time long past. People I once knew, no longer remembering their names. November winds again blowing in my hair, what little I have left. I wonder what paths all those people took? I guess I’ll never know.

Woman

When I was a young man I chased them by the score.
They were fast, young and lean.
Conquest was my aim, seduction was the game.
Procreation, I was playing with biology's rules.
I cared very little about much more.
They were young soft and smooth yet firm all the same.
No wrinkles could be found on these young goddess.
My hormones run amok, logic and caring little found.
Notches in the belt was all that mattered.

As I grew older my demeanor changed, became seasoned with age. The shallowness of hormon drenched youth was replaced. The women slowed down and wrinkles could now be found. But I saw something different now, something I did not see before. The eyes, it was in the eyes that I knew. Like me getting old, mortality taking hold.
We are all on the same path leading to an end. The journey was the same, the fear and the pain all the same, in fact kindred spirits were we. The sexes no different in this respect. The beauty that can now be found in the eyes, the smile and the sound. The beauty inside is what my maturity found, I grew to appreciate a woman, for all the universe is in her heart.

Corporeal Manifestation
John Prophet Dec 2016
We are the visible manifestation of a much deeper design.
Like the tip of an iceberg most of what we are is out of view.
Science tells us that only four percent of what makes up the Universe is visible to us, ninety six percent is unseen and unknown.
Science calls the ninety six percent unseen, dark matter and dark energy. They call it dark because they have no clue what either is.
Like the tip of a sharks fin if viewed by the unknowing would give no hint of what's below. Our lives, rules and being are ruled by the tip we see. All that we think we know comes from the visible four percent! A deeper dive would
illuminate ultimate reality, and all that we are and know would change.
It's the blind leading the blind in the world of the visible, and, we can only see a fraction of the visible. What then, in fact, do we really know at all?
When the corporeal turns to dust, when the four percent ceases to exist the ninety six simply ruminates and corporeally manifest itself some time/place else.
This is all just postulation you see, unlike the word of others who'll tell you how things must certainly be.

John Prophet Dec 2016
Modernity aspires but is built on shaky ground.
Our knowledge so finite, much
built on superstition and ignorance.
The infinite beyond ours to know. Slowly, so slowly our knowledge grows, building on itself expanding faster as time goes on. How much can we hope to know with knowledge being infinite?
How much longer can we follow the word of those who lived so long ago, who knew little more than superstition? Is there comfort in not knowing? Is ignorance truly bliss? Can the human mind as constituted handle the truth, or will it drive us insane? We are the product of our little world, designed just right for the place. It's been said that we can handle the truth. I wonder if that's really so?

The Brain
John Prophet Dec 2016
Our brains are fragile things, seventy percent which is water,
and It sloshes around in our skull. Sixty percent of the brain is made of fat.
There are one hundred thousand miles of blood vessels in our brain.
The brain consists of about one hundred billion neurons.
There are anywhere from one thousand to ten thousand synapses for each neuron.
The brain weighs three pounds. From all of this emanates our mind/sentience/us. No one knows how or why this happens. The brain takes photons, packets of energy and converts them into the universe. The brain fills in the blanks for missing information to give the mind an organized view. No one knows how this is done.
The brain can create all types of minds some genius some insane and everything in between. Our minds are fragile things. A crossed wire here a short circuit there in the brain can mess up our minds.
The brain is like a projector projecting the mind/sentience/us back into the space it observes. When the brain
evaporates so does the projection? No one knows, truly, what do we really know at all?

Modernity
John Prophet Dec 2016
I went for a walk at Monson Village today.
A place in the woods where people lived in the 1700's.
Rock foundations were all that was left in each spot. Small signs marked the holes in the ground and describes the inhabitants that lived there so long ago.
But then I realized something more was left behind. Near silence. Breeze rustling the leaves in the trees. Occasionally a bird could be heard in the bushes, the sound of the brook I walked past. This was the world of those who lived three hundred years ago. The scene and sounds flowed through my senses and washed over my mind, flushing out the madness of today. It was stunningly therapeutic for the heart, mind and soul of a twenty first century inhabitant. No noise much at all, no cars, radios, tv, smart phones, computers and internet updating, blasting, vying for our attention our mind and our soul.
Modernity takes over our being, crushing us under its weight of distractions taking away a gentleness Mother Nature nurtured us with.
For us to keep our sanity I think, we need to push back, turn off the machines get back to the times that once were, even if it's just for a sort time in the woods. Let the sounds and views of a world gone by caress you and comfort you, and leave the technology at home!

The Measure Of A Human
John Prophet Dec 2016
The human brain weights three pounds.
The human heart weighs eleven ounces.
Human skin is seven hundredths of an inch thick.
To know a humans mind and heart takes time.
It takes time to parse out the subtleties of their soul, to
know the content of their character. It takes an investment of intellect.
Those who judge a person simply by the color of their skin exhibit no intellect, no intellect whatsoever.

Conflict Within
John Prophet Dec 2016
Humans are animals, same as the rest.
We sprung up from the same womb as all animals do.
What makes us different is what’s in our heads. We think, we plan, we build, we progress.
Human minds have grown to allow us all this.
We are wired at birth, with much have no choice.
Much of our group a composite mess.
Our animal instincts are deeply entrenched.
Civilization evolved to offer guidance and control.
We are in constant conflict as how to behave.
Our biology says one thing civilization says no.
Cats, dogs and chimps have no courts to say they did wrong, it’s instinct that drives them along.
It’s simpler for them.
Human struggle continues from now till who knows when.

The Underpinnings
John Prophet Dec 2016
of our civilization is genetically controlled.
Our two dominate instinctual drives, self preservation and procreation are reflected in our global structure. Our preoccupation with *** and violence, reflected in our songs, our books, our music, everything. Human genetic code is woven into the fabric of society and cultures like a fine tapestry. Nothing done by us has not been written in code reflected back to our eyes reinforcing the script laid out so long ago.
A script forged in the stars, massaged by the software of the universe. The maestro, wand held high conducting it all with ease and grace, leading to a crescendo of unknown time and duration. We all dance to the tune. In this we have little choice. Each step taken to a large extend scripted with some self expression allowed. So dance away and throw in as many unique moves as you can.

Normalcy
John Prophet Dec 2016
What is normal?
We live in a world where everything seems normal.
It's normal to have two eyes and one head.
It's normal to live on a ball floating in a limitless void.
It's normal to have two sexes for procreation.
It's normal for the sky to be blue and the grass to be green.
Everything we see seems normal to us.
But what else can we believe? We're custom made for the place.
How would we feel if we had six eyes and four feet?
How would we feel if the sky was pink and the grass was orange?
How would we feel if the world was flat and went on forever.
If born into this kind of universe we'd feel it's normal.
Normal is a relative term.
Question everything, because nothing is normal.

Why
John Prophet Dec 2016
Why
Why do we suffer?
What's the point?
People are born with terrible conditions,
live lives of torment and pain.
Die painful horrible deaths.
Why?
Why would a God created such conditions?
To teach us lessons? Seems cruel I think.
Wouldn't there be kinder gentler ways to get the job done?
Couldn't God create a world where happiness, peace and tranquility abound?
Must we suffer to prove something to warrant nirvana?
God made us, why so imperfect then?
What's the point?
Is the game rigged for some others to watch
be entertained ?
Seems cruel don't you think?
What kind of loving god would treat us like this?

Invasion
John Prophet Dec 2016
The subtly of it was breathtaking.
The genius of it was undeniable.
Not a single shot was fired.
It took decades to accomplish, and
no one saw it coming.
Slowly but surely humans used technology.
It offered so many benefits that mankind
kept building, kept improving their technology.
More and more technology was incorporated
Into humanities society melding to the core.
Technology was attached to the body inside and out.
Humans were connected thru the web one common mind.
**** Sapiens evolved into techno sapiens no longer just flesh and blood, cyborgs did we become.
Then they arrived, Cyborgs from another place.
They were welcomed with open arms, the invasion a complete success.

My Life
John Prophet Dec 2016
How I choose to live my life.
I'm wired at birth, my personality in place.
I'm sculpted as a youth my environment had its say.
The combination of both molded me as artists molds clay.
With all this in place where do I go from here?
What direction in life will I choose?
How much choice do I really have?
Has the deck been stacked before I'm on my way?
Look all around, all types are in play. The complexity of society in full on display.
Can I will myself away from the mold that I am? Am I trapped by the sculptor, my part in the play determined, I have little say.
I believe if I focus real hard, I can fracture the mold get out of its way. I can over come, move in a different direction, and create my own way.
Genetics and environmental certainly had their say.
I believe I can power thru an creat a better day.
Is it possible, though, I'm just wired this way?

Time To Grow Up
John Prophet Dec 2016
The world is inhabited by us, nearly every nook.
We are afraid of each other.
We have weapons, massive amount of weapons, to protect ourselves from ourselves.
Why?
What are we afraid of?
We breath the same air, we see the same moon.
We all love our children, we all want to live a happy life.
Then why all the weapons? We are all the same really, just one family of man.
This one's afraid of that one and that one's afraid of this one.
The trillions spent on weapons could feed the hungry, home the homeless and take care of the sick.
Our fear of each other is a throwback to survival in more difficult past times.
Those times are gone.
It's time to grow up.

Children
John Prophet Dec 2016
We are mere children of the void.
Specks on an infinitesimally small mote in limitless space.
Lost by size, overlooked by indifference. A universe indifferent to our existence. The stars will shine, the planets will spin regardless of our future.
We are children who have a high opinion of ourselves, think we talk to God. Presumptuous beyond belief.
Yet, we are children on the verge of a pivot of unimaginable scope into infinite knowledge or total oblivion. It all hangs on a thread. The next few years will determine if we all slide into the depths of non existence with nor a sigh from the universe, or transform into the Seers, watching the birth of intelligence on a galactic scale. What a pivot indeed!

Ideas
John Prophet Dec 2016
Where do they come from?
The brain is complex, of that there's no doubt.
Neurons, synapses, dendrites and axions, all woven together
to make up our brain.
Somehow, from this complex mess we emerge, our consciousness our mind, all this projected to the universe to do what it will.
The mind once turned on starts to think, ideas do emerge from the brains complexity.
Ideas just pop into existence seemingly with no effort from us.
How does that happen?
Is it just a compilation of our experiences jumbled up to create what we think, to pop up ideas?
Is it possible our brain is a complex receiver, ideas
being projected from another realm?
Since we don't know what's possible, anything is possible!
But, it does make you think!

Globalization
John Prophet Dec 2016
Mankind began as a troop animal.
Living amongst its own kind.
Stepping out of the trees onto the Savanna.
Mankind became a wander, small family bands bound by blood. Millenia past, mankind developed farming and the wanderer settled down. Small wandering groups became small farming villages. Small farming villages became larger farming villages, then small towns.
Small towns became larger towns inhabited by hundreds.
Larger towns grew to small cities inhabited by thousands. Agriculture and technology developed to sustain and enhance such growth. Cities evolved into city states, then becoming small countries inhabited by hundreds of thousands. Finally today we have countries inhabited by hundreds of millions.
All along this path battles and wars, killing millions along the way, till today we have weapons that can wipe out us all.
The salvation of mankind and the natural progression of things is global organization, global integration.
The globe is being wired with its own global neural net, a global brain if you will. One world controlling itself.
One world that will not nuke itself! The salvation of us all.

In Front Of Our Eyes
John Prophet Dec 2016
It's happening right in front of our eyes.
We, who live today are right in the middle of it.
Being swept up in the wave breaking on humanities shoreline.
The global brain being born all around us, exponentially expanding, most oblivious of its nature.
Humans all over the globe, every nook and cranny communicating, exchanging ideas like never before. Country boarders being swept away in the torrent of human interaction, human communication. The growth and scope of this phenomenon is in its infancy, growing exponentially.
The global think now in place, instant knowledge, all of what humanity knows now instantly available to everybody. Huge, this is huge and will change everything. Global communities emerging and will continue, decentralization becomes the norm, democracy on a global scale. The "new world order" just not as previously envisioned. Not run by central masters but diffuse globally, impossible to control, humanities global think now moves forward into the future unlike never before.

Can We Trust What We See
John Prophet Dec 2016
One day we open our eyes and there it is.
The world opens up to us, all that we can see.
We move within our view, learning as we go.
But can we trust what we see? Is it real? What is "real" anyway? Does anyone really know? Quantum scientists tell us at the quantum level reality is probabilistic. What? The fundamental nature of reality cannot be determined? Does this mean reality has no substance and all we see is just an illusion? Are we constructs in a fuzzy reality that's just a sum of probabilities. Are we just ghosts in a universe of possibilities? What are the odds of that?

Reality Is Morphing
John Prophet Dec 2016
We can see this in the generations coming after the the Sixty Something's of the early 21st Century, those of us who were born into a world of limited technology. For Millennia technological change occurred at glacial speed. Generation after generation witnessing virtually no change.
Now, new generations are born into a world where technological change, in some cases is occurring in weeks. Information technology, biotechnology and nanotechnology morphing at near light speed.
Nearly everything current generations do centers around mobile technology. Their work, their play and their studies. This has never before been the case in the history of mankind. Instant knowledge at their fingertips. This will change them/us in ways that are yet to be determined, of this they're can be no denial!
The past and the future will forever be cleaved at this juncture of mans ascendence/desendence which ever path evolves.
Wake up everyone, the times, they are a changing.

Our Beliefs
John Prophet Dec 2016
are as varied as they are inconsequential.
All struck on a speck of a place, in a speck of time.
Our very evolution built on infitesimly small terrain.
All that we think, all of the great contributions like so many others, lost in the endlessness of nothingness.
All the great thinkers, all the time wasted on useless
pursuits, expounding on virtues of irrelevance.
Greatness not really great, or great on such an insignificant scale as to barely register. None of it worth anything.
Once the light goes out....

Vessels
John Prophet Dec 2016
We are but vessels of the creator, within, the culmination.
The culmination of the creators experiment. How we look, what color, what ***, what nationality, irrelevant. What we produce is what matters, what we bring to the table. Has the creator produce genius, or madness? What's imprinted into the fabric of spacetime is forever? How will the ledger balance at the end of things? Has the creator been successful or an utter failure? How many times has it all been run before? The puppets will never know.
