I Do Not Sleep
Jennifer Schwab Jul 2013
Late at night I lie with blinds drawn back
Night drifts just beyond a thin piece of glass,
it drifts too far from reach.
I wish I were outside in it, but watch it I will.
Street lights guide empty roads, impatient, they wait for the air of morning.
I am for once alone in an undisturbed solitude.

Each ticking moment,
from the peaking hour of our brightest stars to the resting streetlights and pale blue air,
Runs through me indefatigable.
Slowly I turn into a new person as the people and day fade to nothing
Slowly I become more.

The moon cascades light into my room,
it presses its face close to the glass
Both present we are alone.

I consciously listen as my mind wanders.
I am still here, not dreaming.
It is at the death of each day,
far past midnight, words drip onto the white page.
They are not shy nor afraid of displaying their truth.
The moon is empty of judgement.

When the brisk daylight arrives I will cover myself.
When the birds songs ring through dawn
I begin dying again among the life of everything.

But for now in the depth of silence and stillness,
I shall bare myself.
For the night invites such comforting warmth,
I unclothe my thoughts
For the night invites such comforting warmth,
I do not sleep.

Admiration
Jennifer Schwab Jun 2013
Do you think of I as I dream of thee?
Through my mind passing so vividly
Like tidal and waves, washing, drifting on shore
A tide pulling me in

Oh drown me evermore.

I wade in such euphoria, yet I crave such a love
A love only two in a sleepless night can dream of.

Absent of touch
Words had me lifted
A climatic conversation
My world had shifted

Deep inside the irises
Travelling distances deemed too great
Watching as the hands of time
began to weave a brighter fate

Dismiss these heavy worries
Let rushing thoughts rest calm at bay
I need not search for such peace
For you have brought it to me today

Between the lines of tongue
Rolled and whispered your adoration
But hear not what I feel
Is such love a fabrication?

Genius
Jennifer Schwab Jun 2013
The Genius rarely speaks
but when he does he is heard
For such wisdom and beauty
is possessed in each word

His mind a golden ocean
Vast
Still
& Pure
His voice mesmerizing
pain and sorrow it shall cure

His judgement will find reason
with time and matter they become
His spirit will live on
even when the clock has had its run

And the world shifts so fast
everyone pushing each other along
But with you not a second seems wasted,
only remembered never gone

Enlightened by spoken thoughts
visions wild through my head
"We cannot make the world more real,
only more vivid" he said

Like city lights blinding each star
You're picturesque in such a sense
Like a lighthouse lit from afar
That such love shall only commence
Like a wave ebbed from shore
In a dream too far intense
Like a promise that is no more
The dreamer builds a fence

— The End —
