She and He
sittin' in a tree
k-i-s-s-i-n-g
A paradox in itself
But then I saw her there across
the room
through flocks and flocks of 'beautiful'
silly seagulls --
              frivolously flocking,
                                            pecking at
the shiniest trash that flutters by
Only to swallow
pass
flock, peck again
--------------------------------------------------------------
She intrigued my mind
   through
the eye I saw her beak was flat                                y
no craning,
                  crooning neck                                   l
                                           and could not f
for she had no wings
... maybe we do not care to fly!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Like the Red Sea
She-Moses split through the flock
to me,
beakless
surrounded by chronically cocking faces
all but one,
                                                                      all alone
She had been                                                     too
-------------------------------------------------------------
Now next to me
                                                                                                      No wandering eye could care
in soundless conversation
proclaimed we
                       are together
as one we surely gleamed as gold
too bright for gulls to see
              ...Mastur-consolation?
-------------------------------------------------------------
And so it's true
we were                   alone
                               together
perfect paradoxical bliss
I never do free-form... Another quick write. Hope you enjoy.
just before i let go
you asked
do you want to talk about it

i said
i left my lips
on your forehead

what’s to talk about?
Before friendship, there's faces
That take up the spaces
In the familiar places
Where time always races.

When time slows, there's friends
Who don't break when they bend
And are always looking to mend
Instead of seeking the end.

After heartache comes dark skies
When all it rains is lies
Instead of wet you're left high and dry
And all around are good byes.
Home,
I’m going home,
Words I hear all the time.
Words that I envy,
Syllabic distress…
Jealousy.
What is home?
For you, it’s the place
You’ve lived for eighteen years.
The place where both parents
Welcome you with open arms.
Laughter
Smiles
Hugs
Kisses
That’s not my life.

What is home?
The place where I moved
When I was thirteen?
A brown shingled roof that hides
Hurt, divorce, a mixed family
That will never get along?
Screaming, yelling, fighting,
Something different every time, and
They wonder why I want to leave
Is found in your arms,
                                  calm me down,
                                  calm me down,

Quiet solitude in your arms
Makes the voices stop,
Makes the hurting stop
                       momentarily
                                relieve me of the pain...

Help me to be stronger
               (maybe -
                             I have not yet decided
if being stronger will be worth it again...)

But in the meantime,
Quiet solitude
                      in your arms
      Makes the world

              ~STOP~

((And I remember how to breathe))
Running for a thousand places
Running for my very hide,
Running to obscure the traces
Run from those I can’t abide.

Pursued by the claw of guilders
Pursued by the Bank of Greed,
Running from the Ruin Builders
Run from those whose lust is need.

I’ve worked to build a modest holding
Worked to feel a pride secured,
Family of love enfolding
Sanctity midst world endured.

Feel manipulations brooding
Moneys lust does intervene,
Those who have it all, concluding,
What is mine is theirs to glean.

Claw back by manipulators
Claw back by the fiends of greed,
Implacable cold calculators
Cut with Law to make me bleed.

Running for a thousand places
Running for my very hide,
Run to flee pursuing faces
Run from that I can’t abide.

Anguish at my walls collapsing
Wailing of my bride’s despair
Futility’s tomorrow lapsing
Monstrous as it flails me there.

Standing in a freezing stillness
Standing in this hall of time,
Forlorn in a prisoned illness
Greed has vanquished me and mine.

Where have you gone, lover of mine?
Where have you been, this unending time?

Have you gone on a train, to a place far away,
Where the mountains sing and the sycamores sway?
Have you taken a boat to an island alone,
Where you sit and you think as you toss a cool stone?
Have you leaped on a plane to see new skies,
Where you watch shining stars with tired, worn eyes?
Have you just walked along roads with rotting old signs,
Where the locals count up your hard liquor fines?

Have you met someone new, sweet, and bright,
Who listens to your stories until late at night?
Have you made a friend that lends a hand,
Who will be by your side in the dirt and sand?
Have you whispered in the ear of a young, new girl,
Who holds your hand and wears soft curls?
Have you remembered your love that waits back at home,
Who cries silent tears, tired and alone?

Have you looked to the sky, the clouds and sun,
When you can't quite remember where you're from?
Have you listened to the sounds calling your soul,
When there in your ears is a gentle, calm lull?
Have you felt the pull of the waves in the sea,
When you stop for a moment and think about me?
Have you come home, if for a second, to look,
When you feel the urge to finish this old story book?

Have you thought of my love, spanning across seas,
What it does to my heart to know you left me?
Have you pondered our stars, our memories within,
What we did when we were close, alone with our sin?
Have you remembered the days of smiles and hands,
What you wrote in those letters that traveled vast lands?
Have you forgotten those moments of tears and sorrow,
What we thought was a time when there was no tomorrow?

So I ask you once more, although you've gone far away,
This question, now old, in my mind will stay,

Where have you gone, lover of mine?
Where have you been, this unending time?
