the shark
jen king Sep 2010
it's one thing to love
and another to leave
tug on those heartstrings
with a trick up your sleeve.

grimace like a shark
sly as a fox
he'll throw out your heart
down on the rocks.

a close eye on him
means a second reprieve
your one step ahead
and its him that you'll leave.

watch for the signs
keep your head in the clear
cause those tricky devils
will feed on your fear.

so be like one pele
goddess of fire
hold onto your truth
wait out your desire.

we were all so young

we were all so free

we didn't know who

we wanted to be.

now we are grown

hopes all in our hand

reaching out for something

not quite knowing where to land.

the more we reach
the less we know
our fear is deep
from the seeds we sow.

to have is to hold
to leap is to gain
reach out your arms
while we dance in the rain.

a common deception
a leaf that blows free
the man on the moon
watches all he can see.

look out for yourself
as you float on the breeze
drifting and searching
as the tide of the seas.

ever changing
still remaining
my heart
it leaps free.

your spirit to
a mind of you
the trace
it leaves behind.

an eye for peace
with voice so soft
your truth
it hangs aloft.

a hand to hold
touch ever proud
a gift among
the gods.

mortal is fate
love and debate
destiny
never fails.

i think of you.
jen king Sep 2010
sometimes i wait and listen
of things i maybe should say
a song of love
a letter of thanks
or simply
what i dream.

nothing comes.

i sit and wait
i stretch and think
twiddling my pen
but not drawing any ink.

nothing comes.

time drifts by
slowly staring at my ceiling
the moon shines through
but not altering any feeling.

nothing comes.

so i think of you
which helps me to
draw the letters
on white pages.

something comes.

soon enough
my page is full
and softly
quietly
i drift off
to sleep.

here it is.

the path
jen king Sep 2010
From the far ends of earth,

to streets made of gold,

the sun's always shined,

since the long days of old.

one mountain to next,

two rivers apart,

three fields of blue,

but alike is the heart.

the center of peace,

a story untold,

four elemental stages,

and the heart never cold.

you wait and i'll listen,

as the winds tell the story,

of valor and freedom,

and a love filled with glory.

it's tale neverending,

it's peace always spoken,

your last fateful journey,

for a heart left unbroken.

so follow the signs,

remember the sendings,

your path is unfinished,

left to make your own endings.

poem
jen king Sep 2010
so i lie awake at night,
and i wonder,
and i dream,
about a future still,
without thunder
or a stream.

a stream,
a thought,
of conciousness,
around rocks and earth it flows,
to paths lay unadventured,
without lifes fears or woes.

for a woe is just a thought,
rationale never explained.
to fear is to bring acceptance,
to that thought without a name.

so hold your head up high,
never fear the unexplained,
your future will be bright,
like the sky after its rained.

stars
jen king Sep 2010
the stars all alight
under the vast black-blue sky
the basilica walls glitter
with the reflections of the night
your heart cannot stop beating
while your hand is holding mine
never fear, my darling,
our souls still intertwine

your eyes glitter brightly
as you walk right next to me
the sounds are quietly blowing
from the far off distant sea

don't forget my love
your soul belongs to me
while my heart belongs to you

now go off on your journey
but don't forget me still
i'll wait forever for you
in the house up on the hill

i can feel your breath upon me
like it used to softly flow
i've missed your touch my darling
and i hope one day you'll know
how much your love propels me
to heights i've never been

your presence now surrounds me
so now swear you'll never leave
for my heart would shatter deeply
and float up to the moon
to be among the stars
which alight the darkened sky.

dreams
jen king Sep 2010
what dreams we had
so long ago
and now the tide moves on.

a moment frozen,
a thought unspoken
a memory that holds true.

a feeling left ungratified,
disappointment
and denial.

regret,
and fear of pain
once thought,
a chain which binded you.

what dreams we had
so long ago
and now the tide moves on.

but slowly fall the seasons
a leaf,
a flake,
the sun.

unto a new day
time moves on
as thoughts and dreams
will run.

what dreams we had
so long ago
and now the tide moves on.

hold onto laughter
love,
and light.

release the pain
your heart's
strong fight.

remember wisdom,
faith,
and trust.

while all of anger
vanishes,
to dust.

what dreams we had
so long ago
and now the tide moves on.

let go
jen king Sep 2010
clear and present danger
though clear blue skies remain.

fallen log,
twist of fate,
miraculous discovery
a love thats in debate.

fear to hold,
scared to change.
three steps backwards
to what remains?

hold your temper,
break your pace.
times not an option,
let go of the race.

let go to win,
release to lose
the stars above
know what we chose.

close your eyes,
hold your breath.
one jump forward
to reach what's left.

change
jen king Sep 2010
sometimes i wish that things didn't have to change
faces and paces will always remain
the things we said and did
those we wish we hadn't done
like a lid
from a can that was shown
the mistakes
those hearts we break
they're all replaceable
but unre-makeable
so remarkable
how fast we make
a patch to fill the hole
that so easily torn
can now never be worn
on a sleeve made of gold
we're now getting too old
to dream of fairy tale lives
or endings
they always end
with the hope we can mend
and start a new beginning
with no stop to the spinning
your world never stops
only skips a beat
of the heart
you can only hope to meet

you hold back on what's wrong
try to believe what is right
keep your head held up high
and your future in sight.

ive seen a love of best friends
one thats true and unforced
their hearts are like ours
but apart their veins course.

course through decades of old
and of ages untold
a love not so simple
but as lasting as gold.

as they look for ones eyes
while their souls intertwined
a love so much enviable
but one of a kind.

two hearts as one
stars above all collide
a feeling of joy
nothing left to ever hide.

life
jen king Sep 2010
life: a complex web of love, lies, hopes, fears, and people.

times change, people change, feelings change.

my thoughts never stay put.

they move around in my head,

i think about life and what it would cost to be dead.

the fate of others doesn't rest in my hands,

their lives are like mine spread across the times and the sand.

what the future holds only Heaven knows.

it rains or it snows the only difference is the temperature

of a heart that beats fast and then slow.

the anticipation of meeting is complex you

know the feeling, you've had it before,

when you see his smile or the flecks in his eyes.

the laugh, his laugh that makes your heart light,

you'd fight for his life as you'd fight for your own

heart,

like a drum,

it beats out a rhythm,

the rhythm of your soul,

the soul that's always restless and spreads throughout your

veins like a web, a complex web of lies.

lies like those of fear and people,

but not of hopes and love.

life.

goodbye
jen king Sep 2010
i took a chance and let you in
the feeling now can't last
you're leaving soon
and still i'll miss
how your eyes shone in the moon.
we spoke about the things we liked
and about each others lives
your smile
your touch
and the way you make me laugh.
you told me that you cared for me
and that you always would
but distance is too hard a chance
and one that you once took.
your fear is what mislead you
to an act you might regret
but now its done and can't be fixed
and i let you off the hook.
so when you leave me
don't forget
the part of me you hold
i'll think about you most days
and of what i miss the most.
you've changed me for the better
and a little for the worse
but i don't regret my feelings
or how i chose not to let you go
so don't forget me baby
and maybe one day we will
remember what was once
a feeling that was real.
