Orange Skies
A sunset over crashing waves
A vast view of orange skies
Farewell to the setting sun
Until it once again will rise
This is but a certainty
Felt by everyone alive
Soaking up the suns rays
Until the end of days arrives

The Vine
Climbing the vine
I’m resigned to align
For an unknown conclusion
No one alive can describe
Will I vanish for good?
Will my soul fly to space?
Into the ether
Fade away, get replaced?
I’ll climb up for answers
Until the stalk ends
In hopes of inclusion
In the broader scope; lens

Unique
I took you as unique
Despite you riddled with your flaws
You had so much mystique
Moved so quick I had to pause
Just to catch my breath
To find the reason and the cause
So I stood in disbelief
Not violating laws
Or taking bows in front of crowds
Accepting their applause

Wars We Wage
Fits of anger
Expelling rage
The inner battle
The war we wage
The things we learn
That comes with age
The belief
That people change
Gazing glances
Words exchanged
An act of violence
Unrestrained
To know the person
Not just their names
In order to be entertained

April Fools
They caught me unprepared
Though I should’ve seen the truth
Unaware what day it was
Then they yelled out “April fools!”
I didn’t see it coming
I was completely caught off guard
When they tricked me I was livid
Because I fell for it so hard

Distraught
I am perplexed; distraught
About the violence in my home
When guns are turned on children
Yet it somehow feels condoned
There’s nothing being done
The laws are still unfit
We need to speak up now, and loud, and never ever quit

Love Potion
Scintillating whiffs of air
Up the nostrils go
Unlike other fragrances
This one stole the show
Bottled essences of flowers
Or a single magic rose
Born without its thorns
And an eagerness to grow
Just a hint of its scent
And they’ll be flocking by the droves
With the promise of a sniff
Before the cold wind blows

The Ugly Verse
I wrote an ugly verse
Could be bad, could be worse
It wasn’t well rehearsed
And wasn’t very good at first
But something told me to read it again
That is where my thoughts ascend
Into the stratosphere past Mars
Past the twinkling stars
Until it comes back around again
Stronger than before
Knocking at my door
Impossible to ignore
While letting out a gentle roar
This is where the plot digressed
In the ballroom, underdressed
Complete with cowboy boots and vest
Embarrassed, I confessed
I had written every word
After reading, I concurred
It was my handwriting in script
Which made me have to come to grips
As poetry spilled from out my lips
As I drift
        As I drift

Iris
Fancy as a flower
Uncommon in it’s use
Pandering and prodding
Needing to be spruced
Petal to the metal
I’m borderline amused
Purple as an iris
Suspecting it’s a ruse
Knowing all along
Its free without the proof
While seeking ample examples
That solidify the truth

The Straight And Narrow
Along the straight and narrow road
That leads to better things
Wind pressing up against my back
While being pulled by strings
To the left, the great big ocean
To the right, the woods and trees
Traveling to my destination; home
Now somewhere in between

Finding Home
I see open fields, and sun drenched skies
All hellos, and no goodbyes
A back and forth, with wise replies
A good time spent with alibis

Hearing melodies, that soothe the soul
We lose ourselves, and in a sense, control
Of our bodies movements
From high to low
Being free, and letting go
All while feeling, I’ve found my home

Wrapped in safety, immune from harm
A goodnight kiss, with warmth, and charm
I’ve been relinquished, rendered, deprived, disarmed
Found my inner peace, before I buy the farm

Your Choice
To the right
A future
Of stunts and escapades
To the left
“The known path”
Fair since the time of the crusades
Your choice is not of good or evil
Or what you stand to lose
Neither one is more deserving
But it’s still your choice to choose

The Notion Of Commotion
My perception of reality
Is not what I perceived
And in the notion of commotion
My objective was achieved
I corralled all of my misfortune
My frustration and my will
And I took my medication in the form of one small pill

Art Critic
A vivid painted ocean scene
Spills onto the couch beneath
On to a plush red carpet floor
Doused and wet, more than before
There a puddle starts to form
A painted image of a storm
When lightning strikes, and the colors swirl
You’ll have to reevaluate your world
Art is every where you look
But be careful what you buy
It shivered till it no longer shook
You sure do have an eye

Yellow Rose🥀
‪There’s nothing I suppose ‬
‪Finer than a yellow rose‬
‪Looking over landscapes from afar‬
‪There may be more expensive things‬
‪Shiny things that bling‬
‪Or the need for speed in a brand new car‬
‪But in it’s natural state‬
‪I’d have to contemplate ‬
‪Whether or not the rose is still the star‬
With temptations allure
Im shaken to my core
But it’s more about where to set the bar

Around the bend, down by the creek
Are a multitude of ducks and geese
Gathered around by sunsets peak
Golden skies without words to speak
Just picturesque silhouettes
Before the day is through
And a healthy appreciation
Of my panoramic view

The Grand Stage
The pain remains
As memories fade
When our home
Went up in flames
The loss, the rage
The unexplained
The damage done
The rattled cage
The sunken lines
That show your age
Don’t look away
Just turn the page
For the curtain call
On the grand stage

Christmas In June?
We crafted out of snow
A man of seven feet
A carrot for his nose
His eyes were two small beets
We used raisins for his smile
Two sticks for his arms
He donned a scarf and top hat
As if to keep him warm
He was given last a corn pipe
So he looked debonair
Needless to say, on this special day
There’s Christmas in the air

A sniffle and a sneeze

You were proned to ill content

Through a bright red nose you breathe
Water in your eyes
Mucus on your sleeve
Here’s hoping you feel better
Quickly as can be

Epiphany
An epiphany
A light from the inside
The dawning of a new day
I tried so hard to hide
Intellectually inadequate
Nothing to decide
Only comical arrangements
With the humor set aside
That’s the final outcome
The essence of my pride
The steady continuity
That I’ve been deprived
His ears twitch, eyes roll
The wiggle of his nose
Fast asleep
Where dreams roam free
Completely uninhabited
Totally exposed
A warm bed
To sleep in late at night
Rejuvenating energy
Life force burning bright
So rest
Until daylight persists
Then wake up to something
You simply can’t resist

Dreaming of the day

The mother of a child
A beautiful baby boy
That brings with him a new chapter
Filled with love and joy
Every day’s a new day
For new finds and of firsts
It’s the time to make new memories
Where nothings been rehearsed
To share him with the world
With protection, safe and warm
And start teaching him every nuance
From the day that he was born
A bundle of joy
A blessing of grand scale
A ton of love and support
For the little one that’s frail
A connection to a fragile soul
To nurture and grow fond
To watch and see, with loving eyes
An unbroken bond

Heavenly Spirit
She had a certain zest for life
Every time she took a breath
She took it not for granted
The time that she had left
Her spirit shown quite brightly
She was always filled with glee
She gave me new perspective
For the life I choose to lead
She refused to fade away
To leave without a fight
She was strong willed and feisty
Despite her uphill plight
The way she left was peaceful
On a solemn winters day
She closed her eyes and went to sleep
Yet her spirit still remains

The Reservation
Not much to decipher
In this godforsaken place
But the thought of ever leaving
Leaves a bitter taste
The land is on a reservation
With spirits free to roam
Which can be disturbing to some
Yet, we still call it home
He’s unhappy with his choices
He’s ashamed of his intent
Having grand illusions
With the voice inside his head
Only to reach failure
Time and time again
For things that happened past
On him, you can’t depend
He’s a master of disguises
He never plays it cool
He’s a wonder for the ages
But overall, a fool

Down
I’m an utter disappointment
A letdown through and through
I’ve meandered through existence
Avoiding my own truth
I stare into the mirror
As if I needed visual proof
Of a living, breathing, disaster
Of someone I thought I knew
Don’t reach out to me, I’m hopeless
I’ve been so since my youth
Wasting my short existence
I hope, will conclude at some point soon
I’m too cowardly to end it all
I’m just waiting for my cue
To take the plunge into eternity
And end my doom and gloom
All the fight has left me
I’m in a constant state of blue
With not much energy to speak of
I’ve lost the will to do
To explore the world with wonder
For a new perspective; point of view
Everything seems meaningless
I’m withdrawn, I withdrew
Nothing new that life can teach me
Unless forbidden or taboo
I’m void of any passion
Nothing to inspire too
I’m confused as to why I’m still on earth
Simply howling at the moon
Just as a crying baby would
Fresh out of the womb

Shot out of a gun
The race had now begun
Between the tortoise and the hare
Which didn’t seem quite fair
Although it was all in fun
They still fought to say they won
And bring home the title and the crown
As the fastest one around
Head held high, chest exposed
Proud enough to brag and boast
But all in good nature
A good time for all
A race for the ages
As they answered the call

The one whom I chose
And with my confession
And my intentions exposed

You’re the love they tell in fairy tales
In every book you read

You’re the red I see in roses
And my bandage when I bleed
You’re the fire in my sternum

The one that gives me goosebumps

Raise their right hand
And salute with the pride that they had

What You Don’t Know
What You Don’t Know

There’s something that’s not right about me
I try to not allow it to be seen
I’ve got it tucked away someplace deep
No, it isn’t conjured up or some kind of fantasy
It’s a mystery
My reality

Depression is no joke
Hanging from a dangling rope
Seems like I might as well
Living in a living hell
Beyond compare
The cave I dwell
My own nightmare
Trapped inside
Passion deprived
And I don’t care
I don’t care

Fed up with myself
Wish I was someone else
Disgusted, without a doubt
Yes, that’s what I’m about

Got no love to call my own
Spent my whole life alone
In solitude
Yes, I’m that dude
It’s for the best
I’m one big mess
And I’m simply not in the mood

Wish I knew which way to turn
Wish I remembered just one lesson that I learned
But maybe I did figure out some things
Like, it’s not always quite as bad as it seems
And sometimes nightmares can turn back into your dreams
Minus the screams
Minus the screams
*Writing frees my demons. I share my writing with hopes of letting people know they’re not alone. I write dark, but my writing is just one tool I use to help me put mind and myself at ease. I find painting to be a great outlet as well.
