He couldn’t get a handle
He couldn’t get a grip
On any situation
That glorified a whip
He stayed quite
He stayed still
He fought hard for his free will
He then spoke up
He then advanced
He finally learned to take a stance
And now he is our mayor

He’s unhappy with his choices
He’s ashamed of his intent
Having grand illusions
With the voice inside his head
Only to reach failure
Time and time again
For things that happened past
On him, you can’t depend
He’s a master of disguises
He never plays it cool
He’s a wonder for the ages
But overall, a fool

He’s self centered and he’s lazy
Lethargic, and aloof
It’s not what you want to hear
But at least he tells the truth
Except when he does not
He’s a liar and a thief
He’ll tell you what you want to hear
Without missing a beat
He’s not altogether crazy
Some of his intentions are for good
At least that’s what he tells myself
Like no one ever could

Just a puff of cloud
That was all it took
To send him into orbit
When he turned back around to look
The earth was like a marble
Like you see in all the books
But what he saw scared him pale
And left him scared and shook

Pristine and deliberate
Champagne on ice
Jewels in the jewelry
Were enough to entice
They sparkled and gleamed
Catching the eye of the queen
With the jeweler now seen
He had accomplished his dream
So he fashioned a locket
Made of diamonds and gold
Exquisite and gaudy
For all to behold
It was welcomed with awe
An inspiring piece
Of art and of beauty
His proud new release
His gift was accepted
With joy and with glee
By the new queen to be
A princess in waiting
By law and decree
An innocent soul
A sweet little girl
Not astute yet to notice
The ways of the world
The darkness behind sunlight
The crooks and the thieves
They take with no conscience  
They do as they please
Her locket gave her comfort
She adored its design
She took pleasure in knowing
It was one of a kind

You became my poetry
My confidant, my bliss
My sweetest little darling
Irresistible to kiss
You’re an angel without wings
That I cannot resist
Fallen down into my arms
I’m elated you exist
A diamond in the rough
My other half, my swan
I’ll love you till eternity
Or till one of us is gone

He made it out unscathed
While the fire raged
He’d inhaled some black smoke
Climbing down the rope
They called him a hero for what he’d done
Saving people one by one
But to him, it was just another day
For which he got paid
For the job in which he does
