I’m a servant to my solitude
Inwards is where I dwell
So far inside my body
It leads into the depths of hell
That is where I am most comfortable
It’s my peace of mind
I find comfort in disorder
It’s what gives me my drive
Not a thunderous ovation
In which two worlds collide
And coming through the aftermath
Is a reminder I’m alive
A dangling head and a heavy heart
Head in lap, two worlds apart
Dealing with complexities
And what the world around her sees
Waiting for a passing breeze
To push her on the swing
Like her father used to do
On sunny days in spring
But that was just a dream
She’s hanging by a string
She never imagined what his loss could do
Or the anguish it would bring
The world around her still grows
Her weaknesses exposed
Swallowed up and spit back out
An empty broken soul
A simmering groove
A highly flammable beat
A smoldering dance
To rejoice with your feet
They played and they fiddled
It was an honor; a treat
They sang and you felt it
That band had some heat!
They had made a deal with the devil
And now wouldn’t you know
The devil was present, and in the first row!
They played and they played
Until their fingers bled
The sweat on their brow
Had them seeing red
But they played for the audience
They sang to the crowd
Then they looked at the devil
And they said proud and loud
“We can play fine without you
We don’t need you around”
The devil grew angry
And he opened the ground
Then pointed to hell
And said “that’s where you’re bound”
But the band kept on playing
And did not show fear
The devil was beaten
And at once, disappeared
They traveled on the circuit
A band called “Night and Day”
They were wild and eccentric
But man, you should’ve heard them play
They blew the roof off when on stage
The new sensation, latest rage
They played the night
Into the next day
Then they passed out in a field of hay
They woke from sleep and heard a tune
A string guitar and southern blues
They then knew that they had to go
To the next town to put on a show
My shadow saw its silhouette
It scared him straight to life
He now goes by a different name
And is married, with a wife
On rainy days, I miss him
Or when darkness falls
Unless there is a light left on
Then, he’s on every wall
A vivid painted ocean scene
Spills onto the couch beneath
On to a plush red carpet floor
Doused and wet, more than before
There a puddle starts to form
A painted image of a storm
When lightning strikes, and the colors swirl
You’ll have to reevaluate your world
Art is every where you look
But be careful what you buy
It shivered till it no longer shook
You sure do have an eye
The night sky is overwhelming
If you consider the details
An infinity of stars
And constellation tales
Sailing on the ocean
No wind to push our sails
To march with rudening madness
On the tails of wild gales
