Under the cover of the tall elm trees
A hallow path is set
To walk through and be guided
Without certain harm or threat
The path is dark and dingy
With echoes haunting sound
Bouncing off the bark facade
Of every tree around
To the right
A future
Of stunts and escapades
To the left
“The known path”
Fair since the time of the crusades
Your choice is not of good or evil
Or what you stand to lose
Neither one is more deserving
But it’s still your choice to choose
There’s no time for sleep
When emotions runneth deep
And when emotions get the best of me
I can’t control the beat
Of the thumping in my chest
I grow weary, I confess
Of situations I detest
Both with and without stress
No one makes me any sandwiches
When I sit around at home
There’s many disadvantages
Living life alone
The peace is worth it’s weight in gold
That much I’ll say is true
And I love that no one ever questions me
Or tells me what to do
He had the need to lead
The alpha of the pack
Vicious, mean, and angry
But dependable, in fact
He was hungrier than most
With a bite to match his bark
He’s not someone you’d like to meet at night
Alone in the dark
‪I miss the days of innocence‬
‪I miss sitting on the swing‬
‪In the park, just before dark‬
‪Not caring about a thing‬
‪But the world has grown too big‬
‪More than I imagined that it would‬
‪Still I stay the course, without remorse ‬
‪All for the greater good ‬
Around the bend, down by the creek
Are a multitude of ducks and geese
Gathered around by sunsets peak
Golden skies without words to speak
Just picturesque silhouettes
Before the day is through
And a healthy appreciation
Of my panoramic view
