There was once a time
We knew memories from dreams
When children played outside
Instead of watching TV screens

There was once a time
When children liked to chatter
When they were heard about the town
Filled with cheer and laughter

There was once a time
Fairytales had happy endings
When children stood in awe
When hearts did not need mending

There was once a time
People danced in streets
They welcomed the hot summers
And the warmth of summers heat

There was once a time
We fought for what we had
We had faith in new beginnings
When our word was iron clad

There was once a time
We moved forward from the past
We did not look back in anger
And loved each moment like our last.
I’m fighting it
What it is
What it is not
Fighting
Everyday

It distracts me
It attacks me
But I fight
Fight for it

It is in every nook and cranny
It feels somewhat uncanny
It is painful
It is dry
It is in every soul alive

What it is
Is relevant
In time, they’ll come a need
It is in the darkness
It’s everything we see

It is universal
It is king and queen
It is quite unique
It is my everything
I’m mortified
Near catatonic
Just a little shy
I’m qualified
Resourceful
And just a little sly
I’m Justified
For telling lies
It’s just a state of mind
I’m Horrified
Redundant
I don’t know the reason why
I must’ve rubbed you the wrong way
Attempting to comply
I’m plump and ripe for picking
Please pour a glass of wine
I’m stereo typed in a group
They’ll soon be stopping by
We’ll get to know the real truth
Explicit words made to divide
I’m riddled with adoring eyes
My words stay stuck like glue
Without a reason to say to you
Or the strength to carry through
I haven’t got a song
I haven’t got a clue
I just know my right from wrong
And each other’s right to choose
I’m no sinner, nor a saint
I speak from a moral pew
It’s a dark and scary place to be
But there’s still hope and room
Don’t get it all confused
There’s a rhythm
There’s a tune
All whilst eating with a fork and spoon
Rise up high, or sink below
What you need, to succeed
Is what everyone should know
In the scorching heat around us
Or in the ice and snow
A master and his passion
Still leaves room to grow

In the eyes of an owl
In the lions heart and soul
The lion roars
The eagle soars
And the raven finds its crow

From the setting sun in the distance
The orange, yellow, and golds
Captured here in a moments time
Though it has no place to go

Nothing really matters
Anyone one of us can see
I came so close to drowning
That’s how angels earn their wings

Few out there shares my interests
I’m lonely and estranged
Everyone is different
Yet somehow all the same

When one of us is hurting
When it’s just too much to bare
Ask for help, and you will see
Just how many of us care.
You broke the chains that bound you
You stepped out of your own way
You headed down to the bayou
With a heart that’s brave

Would you love me if I had no money?
Would you pack your things and leave?
I know this may sound funny
But I can hardly breathe

I have stood beside you
I’ve backed you through it all
I never could have imagined
How in love with you I’d fall

I confess I took you for granted
Looking back, a sight to see
To be standing right beside me
As the transcending king and queen.
I’m happy and I’m healthy
There are those that are not
I can tell by your demeanor
That you’re building up a plot
To cure all of the sickness
For those who have endured
The pain and the frustration
From the rich to the poor
Facing starvation
In medical lure
All being done by a heart that is pure
Behind closed doors
A lioness roars
Behind the facade
An angel’s ignored
Lack of sleep
Or bloodshot eyes
They’ll come a time
When even the truth tells lies
No friend nor foe
Can ignore your cries
Wipe up the tears
Step outside
Lift up your head
And walk with pride
