I sat down this morning
to catch up on mending
but the day was so dark
it made the dog bark
I peered at the sewing
couldn’t see where it was going
so I put it away
That’ll do for the day

Inexpressibly
Sweet this morning
Alarm off-key
Joins in

Friends took me to the superstore
of clothing jewelry and more
and said "Look 'round and take your pick"
I said: "You'll think me very thick
but how can I decide to buy
when racks of clothes urge me to try?
There's too much choice, I'm overcome
Decision made- Please take me home"

Cleverness
is anything
sharper
than
what you could think of

Spectacular snow
sufficiently stepped upon
morphs moodily
into puddly slush

You can't hurry
'home'
It has to evolve
within you

How come
I'm surprised
at the treasures
I've squirreled around

We all had dreams
and plans
to travel to far away lands
but then came Covid 19
so who now knows
what that might mean ?
Our plans
may become our dreams

I cruelly packed it in
I feel guilty
but better

Turrets and towers rise
Castle broods
History hugs my heels

The poetry group
teaches us many new things
including Haiku

From my window I see the flare of fireworks
and my ears are assaulted by the banging

the sight of the puppy cowering in fear
will be etched on my mind

such a brave little thing normally

The fireworks smell acrid
I fluff up my cinnamon and rosemary potpourri

Valentine's day
passed without incident
apart from learning
his history

"I'll ring you back"
I called back
She meant Monday

With coffee and biscuits
blueberries and prunes

ponders rhymes and runes
discussing the future
and phases of moon
like mist on the water
it's all over soon
We make up a poem
and publish online
then argue the toss
over which bit is mine
It's all very friendly
We have a good laugh
as we're deciding
what's good and what's chaff
Now we're thinking of Christmas
of peace and good cheer
of friends we have loved
and still hold dear

From now to the end of November
a list as long as your arm
of hospitals and doctors
and now I must keep calm

"How long
have these bollards
been here?"
"About twenty years"

Strolls between sensors
Intended to divert
And smiles

In blink of an eye
the mental storm subtly changes,
its clustered worries relaxed, calmed.
A circumference of peace prevails

As if we weren’t worried
about plastic already, this year
produced mountains of medical splinters
and labourers’ protective disposable outers

The geese flew over last night
I saw them in moonlight
The whisper of wing-beats
eclipsed by their honking

Steady in line
one after another
changing formation
but never the pace
A graceful sight!

Blue and yellow paints
make green
but flowers, mixed, don't

Got up early
Am out of sync
Wish I hadn't

Social distancing
comes naturally to Brits
who like their own space

In an absurd dream
or possibly a vision
I saw this thin line of words
all lower case
illegible
except for one word
isolated in capitals

It was my name

'People are funny'
Good thing!
Imagine
If they were not

Leicester in lockdown
as the virus flares
just as the clouds
had a silvery edge
Those xyz foxes
zoomed into the henhouse
leaving hens headless
and us all in gloom

Naming storms after people
is not appreciated
by those persons

I am helplessly bound
by the magnetic stare
of the famous magician
about to perform
his most noted illusion

Do I dare
to read the conditions
that say in the small print-
No refund for knife slips
by even a quantum,
which leave me in limbo
I do not know where

Yesterday
routine altered
and my appointment
completely
left my mind

I heard a tale
of a broken heart
a soul in a desert
of uncovered sorrow
of griefs
and sad memories
which set him apart

What's different
you ask me
from thousands of others
looking at
oval-framed
pictures
of loss?

Tenderly drawing a book
from its place on the shelf
noting the decrepit
state of its spine
pages so yellowed
as to be almost orange

I steep myself
in the tiny print
and antique wording
and pray for the grace
to fathom is depths
and grasp its meaning

Snow
source of so much poetry
cancels
poetry group meeting

No place is a desert
There is life
somewhere
everywhere

Communication
Keeps everything
Functioning smoothly
If and when
It  happens

Email arriving
saying "You're missed"
Energised, warmed
Started me giving

New perm
Keep dry
Clouding over
Umbrella?
At hairdresser's
Run!

I doze
