The July Sun
James M Vines Jul 2016
Working in a field collecting bails of dried grass. Toiling for my daily bread. I watched as others lay around in the shade, onward I walked eating dust and dried grass. Under the July sun, I burned and wanted for more. I longed to be free from my labors and to be at ease as others were, but my task master would not relent upon me. Trying to teach me a lesson, that it took many years to learn, I now see the truth in hard work that was my fate. While others were not expected to labor, my father demanded accountability. Under the July sun, I was tempered by a fire, that made me able to enjoy the fruits of hard work in latter years.

The Day The Truth Died
James M Vines Jul 2016
Champagne corks popped and glasses were filled, the FBI had lost it's will! A deal was made for 30 pieces of silver, no one would be going up the river. From several venues they drank to the foam. There is no justice, we can now move on. No more does it matter that brave heroes died. No more does it matter that someone lied. To cover up their misdeeds, that was the plan. The day has come-it is here at last. The wicked have inherited the earth, a person's word no long has any worth. So spin what ever tale you like. Its all right now on the day that the truth died.

The Sun Burns Us All
James M Vines Jul 2016
No one is exempt from the scorching rays of the sun. It burns the earth and turns us all, baking our skin. So what contempt it is for one person or group to think that they will escape the ravages of natures revenge for the way we have treated her.

I shall praise him
James M Vines Jul 2016
When the night is long and day seems far away, I shall praise him. In times of sorrow when my heart is breaking, I shall praise him. When the heavens are silent in response to my prayers, I shall praise him. In all things, I shall ever praise God.

We Will Keep You Free
James M Vines Jul 2016
On foreign fields and on streets back home. I wear a uniform and I am not alone. Brothers and sisters wear it and keep watch with me. We are vigilant on land, in the air and at sea. Our colors fly high, even though we are not always seen. We can be stealthy to take the enemy by surprise. Sometimes we want to be seen, so that others will realize. Coming after our freedom will carry a heavy price, even if it may cost some of us our lives. So when you see my brothers, sisters and me. Remember that no matter what the price, we will keep you free.

Freedoms Cost
James M Vines Jul 2016
On the night patrol in some desert never heard of before, a private first class shivers from the cold. On the deck of a ship off the coast in a deep blue sea, a sailor prepares an aircraft to launch, to help those in need. In a war torn nation, a nurse mends wounds and sets broken bones, wishing she could be with her family, but her duty calls her here. Across many time zones and foreign lands, to gardens of stone with memorial walls, many keep watch and pay the price so that we may relax and be at ease. Let us never forget the price they pay, some giving their all. This is what our rights demand, this is freedoms cost.

Fire In Her Soul
James M Vines Jul 2016
Passion burning through her eyes, a furnace of desire pent up inside. Her sweltering gaze lets you feel the heat. She longs to be unleashed by the man who holds the key to her heart. Writing in internal passion, she releases her desire with a longing stare. She can scorch the paint off of the walls of your heart, go after her if you dare? A fire lives in her soul wanting to be released. Are you the one to tame her, do you hold the key?

Being Of The Body Of Christ
James M Vines Jul 2016
One part that does one thing. That is all that I am. A single piece of a divine puzzle that makes the bigger picture come into focus. Giving a glass of water in the masters name, is assurance of a reward. Planting a single seed, can feed the hungry souls of many. One tree can bear much fruit. To be of the body is to be of worth to Christ. To be of the body, is to have everlasting life. To be of the body, is to work for it's good. Even the smallest deed, is done for the masters glory.

Woman In The Veil
James M Vines Jul 2016
Shadowy figure of beauty hidden behind layers of linen and silk. Only your eyes can be seen beyond the covering that hides beauty. Dark jewels that twinkle in the desert sun makesthe heart to have rampant desires. These are the only windows that one is allowed to see behind the curtain that hides your beauty. Only the inner beauty of the soul can be seen, as a harsh master keeps you hidden like a precious treasure. Yet even with all of his vein attempts, you speak if only with your eyes, of passion, and desire that burns beneath your covering like the scorching desert sun. Oh what a great price one would pay to know such beauty, even if for only a moment of mortal time.

Bending The Truth
James M Vines Jul 2016
Words are spewed forth by mindless talking heads. All things are subjective and open to change. What I hear is not what they said, so it goes on in a spin cycle of misrepresentation. Wordsmiths have replaced, blacksmiths in the creation of things. Metal is now drawn out from the iron that is in ink and not from the heated forge. Though both can be hot, as rhetoric burns and ignites passions, just as oil ignites coals to forge metal. The truth is shaped and skewed from it's original form, until it is bent beyond recognition, into what ever the presenter wants it to be.

Growing A Garden
James M Vines Jul 2016
Tear up the earth, and wound the ground. Expose the dark rich soil to the burning sun. Open your mind to the possibilities of what you have done. Cut furrows into the dirt and sew your seeds. Fertilize the earth and water the rows. Wait patiently and watch for something to grow. The seeds that died are now reborn into green chutes with leaves that reach for the sun. Beans, and corn rise up along with Tomatoes and other delightful treats. Sweating to pull out the weeds and keep the garden safe, you toil and labor for the yield of your harvest. At last when the work is done, the bounty is brought into your barns. Taking lessons learned from patients and labor, that is required when growing a garden.

Let Us Pray
James M Vines Jul 2016
Let us cry unto Heaven in unison. Let our voices be heard over the harps of angels. Let our fears and our hopes become a joined song. Let our desires to be heard overwhelm the peace of glory. Let us reach out beyond the darkness and let us keep the powers of hell at bay. Let our supplications become sweet savor unto our God. Now let us all kneel and pray.

Bearer of foreboding, carrier of souls over the land of the dead. Dark emissary for some unknown force. Why do you sit on my window sill ?Your wings shimmer like dark gems in the pail Grey light of day. The wind howls and you caw, sending a chill down my spine. Gathering in a tree just beyond my reach, your brethren become a ****** of Crows. Oh how you intrigue and frighten me, oh daunting messenger. Bring not fowl news to my door step, fly away to another persons refuge and be their bearer of bad tidings.

What Is Freedom
James M Vines Jul 2016
Children playing in the street without fear of being harmed. Old people walking in a park arm and arm. Mothers pushing babies in carriages enjoying a sunny day. What does it truly mean to be free? Is it the ability to make your on choices, that is what some people say. Is it the right to live your own way? Is freedom the ability to speak out and be proud? I think it is some of all of this and much more. Images of people living without fear. Laughter and love from both far and near. The ideals of being free live in every heart. So to the point of what freedom is you see. Freedom is what you think it should be.

The Butterfly Garden
James M Vines Jul 2016
In the spring of the year I dig in the dirt. I put out seeds of all kinds. To see the flowers bloom in a grand thing, but the true beauty is when the garden comes alive. For a brief season, all of the colorful blossoms move filled with butterflies. Each of a different color and design. In these moments I am amazed at the brief beauty of life in a butterfly garden that comes alive.

Staring At Despair
James M Vines Jul 2016
Looking down the barrel of a loaded gun, I turn the whiskey bottle up and put it to my lips. One more drink and that might be enough courage. One more sip and it might do the trick. I spin the cylinder and listen to it click shut. One bullet one pull, that is all it could take. Looking down the barrel of a gun, I pick up the bottle and take one more sip. Perhaps this is enough courage to do it, I **** the hammer and then wait for the click. All goes black, did it work or not?

Jetting out of the water on their tails, cackling at the birds that fly over head. Racing against mighty ships and small boats. Diving under them and back up again. Roaming the open sea unimpaired, Dolphins perform a ballet. Tricksters and noble creatures, they call to each other and flutter through the waves. Dancing over the swells, the elegant creatures swim in splendor, oh to see the Dolphin dance.

Such is the way of bearing a cross and sharing the burden of another.

The Ant Farm
James M Vines Jul 2016
Microscopic specks on a pile of dirt. Rushing around reshaping their world. Never quite satisfied with their environment, always making changes. Looked at under a magnifying glass, they seem kind of ugly. Not sure of some things, seemingly too sure of others. The work as a singular unit, directed by some unseen need. Generations come and go, yet nothing of their basest selves seems to change. Always the same, scurrying around digging holes and making changes. Aren't humans the most curious creatures, if only we were more orderly like Ants in a farm?

The Stars of Heaven
James M Vines Jul 2016
Behold the celestial light as it shines down on the earth. See the faint twinkles of the pin points that show through the curtain of night. Look at the faint distant glimmer of stars beyond counting. See each one and count them if you can. Watch how they sparkle and shine as jewels through the veil of darkness. Some as fixed points to guide us, others as glimmering and fading light to confound us. Take stock of the multitudes and wonder, is there someone out there on a world around another star looking at our faint sun as it shimmers and twinkles wonder the same thing we might, is there other life among the stars of heaven.

Whale Song
James M Vines Jul 2016
Riding on the tide of water deep and blue with white crest arching towards the sun. I listen to the sound of the water against the hull and wait for a faint echo. Then a whistling comes from the depths as whales break the surface to find fresh air. They chirp and whistle to each other as they rise to greet the sun. They fill their lungs and dance in the water before they dive deep again. As they fall into the depths, my heart fills with sadness as all that is left is a faint echo. For to know such beauty and grace even for a moment, can change the heart forever.

The dawn in the rain forest brings a wondrous world to life.

Death By Taxes
James M Vines Jun 2016

I know we need roads and bridges, I can see that each time I hit a *** hole. I know we need a common defense, but who are we fighting with? It is time to reevaluate the system that takes so much from everyone. We are taxed for our gas, we are taxed for our food. We are taxed for our water, for our clothes and our shoes. We are taxed on our income and if there is anything left, we are even taxed after our death. We can't even rest in peace with out a visit from the IRS.

I Am His Word
James M Vines Jun 2016
The written is not always seen, sometimes the life of the person who believes what they have read is the only book that others will ever see. If my life reflects the things I believe, then I am his word. To show kindness but be firm in my convictions is to show Christ mercy and courage. To be resolute and not deviate even under extreme persecution is to show your faith. To walk on in courage and good cheer even when you appear to be alone, is to show the peace that surpasses all understanding. By doing these things, I am his word.

Timber Wolf
James M Vines Jun 2016
On padded feet through the thick Fir trees and White Pines. Hot breath meets cold air as white wisp of the Grey wolf's snorts fill the long winter. Softly through snow coverd ground it presses on. With its brothers and sisters they hunt. It's thick coat acting as a shield against the cold and natural camouflage. A lonesome howl comes from a distance as the pack runs forward into the forbidding wilderness and stifling cold. Greeted by a scout, the keen sense of smell tells the pack that their next meal is near. Silently, they patrol the edges of a thicket and lay in wait. As an unsuspecting deer passes too close to the treeline, out come white fangs and tearing jaws. In a momentary fury of fur and crimson, the prey falls to the ground. The restless hunters drag their prey into the safety of the trees, where by a pail moon light, they feast and howl. For the night is short lived, they hurry back to their den, to silently slumber until hunger or restlessness drives the Timber Wolf out to hunt again.

The world moves around me and time marches on. The conflicts of life are abundantly clear. The turmoil of my emotions wants to overflow the walls of my soul. The forces of nature are all against me. While I am tempted to run away, I must not fear. In certain times, I must plant my feet firmly on the rock and watch as I stand still. It is in this hour when God will come to move. Though I might not see his hand, it will be there. Then just as quickly as the storms of live overtook me, a ray of light will pierce the dark clouds and all will be well, because I had the faith to wait on God, as I stand still.

Killing has become too easy and life has become too cheap. Many put the blame on an implement and not the person who wields it. Banning a thing never works as it causes it to be wanted more and enriches those who do not regard the law. The teaching of morality is our failure. The idea of civil discourse has been replaced with a selfish nature as the lesson of the day. Only when we accept that we are our own worst enemies and stop Blaming an object for our actions, will we begin to resolve our problems without violence and come to realize that guns aren't the problem.

The White Iris
James M Vines Jun 2016
In a field of golden Sun flower with eyes as black as night. A single plant opens its golden petals and an Iris of ghostly white. Among all of the other flowers, it stands alone. It gives a pause to all who see it and a wonder why it is different and alone. None of the other flowers seem to pay it any mind, as they all reach for the sun, but none reflects the light, like the different one. As people come by, they stop to look to see the different Sun Flower, many wonder why can this be. The flower notices the stares as it sits alone different from the others but the same in all other ways. It then ponders the question, why it was made this way. Perhaps it is a random thing, or for greater scheme. It is not just about me, but all of the flowers it would seem. Before the flower bloomed with the white Iris you see, people would pass by the flowers, but not really stop and see. Now the whole field is seen, so perhaps being different is not such a bad thing.

A Night Of Passion

I see you before me, come to take me into your bed. I succumb to the strength of your body and surrender myself to your pleasure. I give myself to your desires and lay before you a vessel to be filled. Your strong hands are lain upon me and cause me to become on fire. I melt into your embrace and open myself to your touch. I kneel before you to remind you of my place and to give you pleasure. I offer you passion and pleasure and in return I receive in like kind. Once I have aroused you to my form, you lift me up and lay me down. I am subject to your will. You are in need of a place to receive release as I am in need of the feeling of being wanted. We join together in a dance of commonality. I giving myself to be your vessel and you putting into me the seed of promise. As we cross the threshold of unity, I settle into your embrace, content in the knowledge that you have known me as a haven for your release and that I am a part of you as I have become the fertile ground from which your essence can bring forth new life.

What A Little Bird Told Me
James M Vines Jun 2016
Nature is full of wisdom. There are many things that we should not ignore. I found such a lesson when one day I decided to explore. I walked down a well worn path then I veered off the main way. I cut through some bramble bushes, then sat down by a small stream. To my surprise I saw a little bird sitting on a rock. The little bird didn't seem to notice me, it just kept tapping on the stone. I then noticed it had a snail it was trying to open up. I looked a little closer only to get quiet the start. With ruffled feathers and a quick chirp, the little bird warned me back. I fell over into the stream and gave a hearty laugh. While laying in the cool running water and the mixed up leaves and mud. The little bird landed on my chest, it had to get in the last word. With a few chirps and a screech thrown in for care. It read me the riot act then went back to it's rock, like it didn't have a care. So I learned a valuable lesson from my experience, that sometimes it is better to just let nature be. At least that is the message I got in no uncertain terms, from what a little bird told me.

I Am A Vine
James M Vines Jun 2016
I am a plant that has many branches. I stretch out in life to touch others like a running vine . If I bare good fruit, then many can benefit from my efforts. If I bare bad fruit, then no one can partake of my success. So it is better to bring forth good things that others may prosper and plant seeds of success themselves, thus becoming a vine of humanity stretching out and covering the earth with kindness and mercy.
