The sky is not blue
It is red like wine
Because blood is the only
Colour of mine
The sea is not blue
It is black as night
For I will turn the lights off
Only to spite
The sky is not blue
It is red like wine

A young man held her gaze in low light. His eyes only hers in low twilight.
His hands and love laid bare by her table, his voice low
As he to her let
his soul show.
And before he left, with her gentle smile, he let his courage grow.

Watch for me in the blue light. I spurr on to you in the blue night.
The sky is dark and watching, but the snow is glowing blue
I would fight anything
for a kiss from you.
Oh, in the blue night I would love anything, for a kiss from you.

For her, his pale hands red. Pain it brought to the red pale dawn.
She wrapped herself in his sorrow, it stained her hands pale red
She gave him back
all the words he said.
For a kiss from you, I would love the blue night red.

Blood and roses and war
I am small and you are tall
Is it fun to have the upper hand
Over children made of sand?
If you rule over a people -
what does it matter
If they easily shatter?

I am not comparable with roses nor with wine
My cheeks do not flower with autumn-less divine
My mane of locks is not of gold nor of the finest silk
I don’t have lips of coral nor velvet skin of milk
You compare me to the impossible and plague me as bizarre
I am not of fresh breeze, but rather smoke from a cigar
You must not compare the wonders of nature to the maid
For the sky may last forever, but I will always fade
