Barren desert sands,
Of white and gold grains,
Graveyards of broken shells,
Abandoned in the moonlight,
Watching the newly destroyed,
Be delivered from the crashing waves,

Beyond dawn,
Ignorant footprints settle,
On the scorching dunes,
Unknowingly disturbing the ocean's sleeping souls

Purple is the sky,
Cloudless perfection,
An image painted so meticulously,
Black silhouettes,
Of leafy trees,
Green only for the light of day,
Mounted over indigo highlights,
Orange streams from street lights,
Interrupting and completing simultaneously,
No stars shine,
This sky is moonless,
Yet the sun doesn't dare disturb,
The perfect violet sky

A fresh start,
A blank canvas,
A new year,
Already tainted with pain,
Already heart-ache and sadness,
Have painted the empty pages,
Of the year I hoped would be different,
But you and your selfishness,
Have stolen away from me,
My opportunity for a clean break,
Poisening it with tears,
Gone is my chance,
To turn a new page,
In my unsatisfied book of memoirs

Undeserving of my halo,
I flee,
Abandoning the stars,
Casting it off,
As I leave you,
A mess,
Such a mess,
Goodbye

Please, hold my hand,
Distract my weary, hazel eyes,
From the tick tock of the clock,
Excelerate my fleeting heart rate,
With your crooked smile,
Fill my head with lyrics,
To the melody of this moment,
And my stomach with butterflies,
Trapped and longing,
Fluttering their fragile wings,
Whenever you honour me,
With the utterance of a single fragment,
Of a syllable,
Like a lullaby, trangqulizing my busy mind,
With sweet, spoken thoughts

For a newer blue,
Of a different shade,
Warmer blue,
Like the summer-day's sky,
Gentler blue,
Like the backdrop of the moon,
Calmer blue,
Like the lapping waves of the ocean,
Caressing the lonely shore,
A charming, humourous blue,
A blue I haven't seen,
Brighter than any other, regardless

For Charles,
Whose eyes are also blue
Isobel G Dec 2010
Your touch draws scarlet lines,
On my china white skin,
And complements this blood,
With painted purple-blue bruises,
Hurt, I run from you,
I hide, desolate and afraid,
We both know I could never conjure,
The strength to stay away,
Hence, I crawl - unwillingly - back to your arms,
I lock myself in your dark cages once more,
I'm crying,
But my tears won't ease this pain
