Isobel G Dec 2010
Your grasp,
Like that of Death's own,
So unforgiving and harsh,
Around my fragile wrists,
You pierce my veins,
With your hateful tone,
Spilling my blood,
It drips, drips, drips,
Around us onto the floor,
Where you leave me,
Laughing in echos,
You're not sorry,
You go against sorrow with every move,
With every broken bone,
With every torn heart and shed tear,
You use me as your excuse,
To create this torturous pain,
That you abandon me with

A fallen star unto you,
Inner conflictions tear me apart,
Fire and Ice,
Heart-ache ripping at my sides,
The pull of obligation,
Drowns me, dragging me down,
Into a pit of despair,
Knowing the weight of your will,
Can release me,
From his arms as he whispers:
"Only Death can tear us apart",
Then tear us apart,
Of you I ask, an escape,
Before the inevitable

Say these tears don't mean a thing,
And I will run back to you,
Say theses tears mean nothing,
So I can fall down with you,
Speak the words like they are real,
And tears will cease to fall,
You say broken hearts have never cried,
But I know the change in your voice,
When you lie

To whoever has the heart to hear:
I, a butterfly,
Have nothing but broken wings,
Unwilling to fly,
Though I know,
I am nothing,
But one of many millions,
I pray that you, God unto me,
May grant my wish,
And unlock the heavy doors,
Of my cruel cage,
Heal my broken spirit,
And lift the burden of this pain,
From my brittle wings

There was a time,
I lived to breathe,
Nothing but your name,
You were there,
To tell me how to see,
The world,
I saw only through your now empty eyes,
Now I see nothing,
Since you've left me with only my lonely, untrained eyes,
My vision is dead,
Like I am to you

You will never be,
But you were,
Supposed to be,
You were supposed to be,
There for me,
Like I was there,
For you

Life was a struggle,
Confusion and misunderstanding,
An unanswered question,

Life was safe,
Cautious and quiet,
An unopened book,

Flowers did not bloom,
They remained withdrawn and hidden,
Rivers never met oceans,
Never explored the sea,

There was fear;
Fear of knowing,
Fear of seeking,
Fear of finding,

It was unexplored,
Left as is,
Unchanging,
Undoubted,
Unquestioned,

But then there came a change,
A question,
A challenge,
A desire for knowledge,

And then life changed,

The flowers flourished,
One by one,
The rivers reached oceans;
Discovered new seas,

Fear began to fade,
There was nothing to fear,
Once there was knowledge,
Once life sought and found,

It was searching,
Learning,
Growing,
Changing,
Questioned,
Challenged,

Now life can grow,
Change,
Live without fear,
Face the challenges,

In this new world,
There is exploration,
There is knowledge,
There is a new sun,

The birds can fly,
They can spread their wings,
Take to the sky
*And be free . . .

You may have noticed the distinct contrast between this poem and my others. This poem was originally written as a speech for the graduation of one of my leadership courses. Of course, it doesn't capture the true essence of my feelings or outlook on life but it certainly produced the required effect: the illusion of hope and change amongst my audience, people who did not require the honest answer.

I hope you like it, despite its falseness in regards to my true emotional state.
