Redemption
Imaan Haque Feb 2016
When I saw you for the first time,
I knew.
The twinkle in your eyes
The curve of your smile;
All told me it was you.

You were the one I needed
To brighten up my life
You were the one I needed
Till the end, by my side.

We would hold hands in parks
And kiss each other openly
Who cares about what people say
Our love is pure poetry.

But it wasn't to be for too long
Because honey, reality came along
Rudely snatched our dreams away
Our lips were rid of their song.

The stench of death hung in the air
Blood flowed on the streets
Life was reduced to a struggle
The Heavens were flooded with prayers.

Four long years the war raged
Took much more than it gave
And it all ended on a paper
Just for the ego of souls depraved.

Time passed and we aged
With our hearts in a cage
Death was a welcome release
Our souls could finally be at peace.

As I stand here on Heaven's gates
I can see your beautiful face
You're calling out to me
"Come on in Honey,
Redemption here is free."
