Elliot Fawkes May 2016
I told her
"Hush child
This won't hurt
I swear you'll only feel a pinch"

Her insides where all pretty
Slick and glistening a deep maroon
Warm to the touch

But suddenly there was more
I broke apart the ribs
Pushed her organs to the side

Her beating heart thumped
Resting in my hands
There was no falter

Pink was washed over by thick splashes of blue
All traces of femininity completely dissolved from her being
And suddenly it dawned on me on just whose heart I was holding

I gently replaced the strong *****
Petting it affectionately one last time
I settled the organs

I chose a deep blue thread
One that matched the hearts colour
And slowly stitched the skin together again

I pushed back his hair
Laid a gentle kiss to his forehead
And told him

"Sleep now, my child
I love you all the same"
