My home was filled with an abundance of people, as I entered I
Brought along a cold breeze from outside with me, the household was warm,
By the aroma I could easily tell that something was wrong.
I saw their bloodshot eyes and deeply red faces,
The color reminding me of Gala apples. I’m pretty sure my face wasn't radiant either,
Especially hearing the news a bit ago.
My emotions spewed out of me as my tears followed as if designed to flow like a waterfall.
We all knew what was before me but every step I took I could feel the walls
Closing in and telling me “No, No, you must turn back now. You’re not prepared.”
At first my heart beat was drowned in the constant cries and murmurs coming from the room ahead.
I turn back around in search of hope, maybe this was all a joke, a sick, sick joke.
“Dun-Dun-Dun-Dun-Dun” I’m shocked at the shrill vibrations my heart beat was making.
The door twisted into a spiral and I was paralyzed, feeling nothing.
I was told to keep going, but I was afraid. I couldn't do this.
As I finally get a hold of the door, the door protested as it opened slowly.
My Grandma was sitting directly across from my mom crying, each sob bellowing
Like a gong. My mom laying still on her back. Dead.
When I saw her, I couldn't control myself, my knees dropped and I crashed
Into the ground sobbing. I knew if I could, I’d rather be dead.
I constantly thought “Why?! Why couldn't have I died today, instead of you.
Please, please, please come back! I’ll do anything, I swear.”
When I got a hold of myself I got up and touched her hand.
I've never touched a dead person before. She felt limp. Weightless.
I reached down and tried to hug her as well, no pressure was felt,
She was gone. I stood there in the dark room, for quite a while, my legs never grew tired,
I couldn't help but to just look at her, a smile on her face,
I couldn't help but notice every little detail of her face
And body wrapped delicately in her favorite blanket.
With every inch of my body I truly wish to trade places with her.
