Today I ran six miles you see
It was me, the trees and the people who smiled brilliantly.
And as I ran in much delight
Sun shined in my eyes
On my face
My shoulders warm from its embrace.
Joy has doubled down from all the heartaches and heartbreaks I’ve found.
Life is as simple as this run.
From who I was to what I am and what I’m not.
At age 45 –  its kinda all alright.
People like me don’t need much you see
We are lost in life’s web
And we often times forget our head.
We move with ease and do as we please
Smelling the flowers as we stride.
Millions walk by like stepping stones
So we try
Helping those in need when they cry.
That’s how its posed to be
Age and all from you to me
Older, more a sense for finesse
A patience and less stress.
Three more miles to go
And I laugh at those who never showed.
Those hearts who are blind
Leave genuine love behind
Those in such a short time
Will never find
A love like mine.

Haven’t I sung you songs?
Written you into poetry steadily and freely?
Haven’t I brought you along?
And covered you in the night when you felt hearts song?
Haven’t I thought of you when you needed to go run along?
Let you travel on your own
Behind the wheel of a new priced tone?
Wasn’t it Conscientiousness’ effort when I let in?
When you yelled at your children.
And they yelled too?
Wasn’t it a mess learning to live?
But through it all we kept close and hid?
And to you.
Wasn’t it grand how we drank and listened to Disney at night?
Or how we sang karaoke
While others laughed but so what?  What blast we had!
And to you.
Didn’t we bring each other a cup of tea in our time of need?
Leaving you to rest in our nest?
And to you.
Didn’t I pick you up?
Bought, then chose.
The bar I raised.  Then let go.
Just to have you close.
And to you.
What different set of values?
What lie and conviction do you pride on?
I shouldn’t fold – it’s really nothing new..There’s been so many like you.
Appreciation is what’s needed. When all is unforgiving.
It’s the flowers you sent
It’s the call or text
It’s the I’m sorry when I was wrong.
It’s showing when push comes to shove.
And to you.
No talk no banter
No life so what matters?
And to you.
Saying to much in small words
Letting me rise
Only to flatter.
That’s life here in this God forsaken game.
No Earth to give it what its needs
No Time that helped its leaves.
Falling in a grave
Only to rise again.
Because God only provides
In these to you, will never arise.

Caressing flickering light dancing between shallow breath
It, in its low pleasing release
Deadens fiery hours spent aging restlessly against the world and its teeth.
For in her words of play
In her words of delay
She always knows what to say.
I would drown in her skin and hear her speak
Oh the things she says that carries me away!
I am stung by her clever words of display
Her tones of I love you’s simple and at bay
It breaks and washes until I can see
How very beautiful her words can be.

I need a BBQ Queen!
Someone that can sit easy on me.
Drink and be merry
while all my friends flurry.
She can throw her arms around me
then scold me in a hurry!
I need a BBQ Queen
its that time you see
where spring is in the air
and flames of passion leave smokey
sweet smelling scents
driving my neighbors out to circle
my well kept innocence.
I need a BBQ Queen
To bend and lean
to smile and provide
this simple yet quaint lifestyle
that is just mine.

Seven years by the by

Friends and lovers acquaintance shaped

By tainted hands they've escaped.

Education bought and sold

Into slavery they go.

Modern time’s mothers deny what men do to shelter and provide.

But in a world of want, needs come second and never last,

dishonoring men and what cares they have.

But too, give pause to what’s new,

Men also partake in this bloodless feud.

Raising beauty as a prize

On the internet so they rise.

Happy hours, vacations and all things that cheer.

Even in olden times people danced and gave in to the
Pharisees to surmise.

What skills we have lost this love we know..

If wisdom is knowledge applied then what we learn of love,

be it so...

Trust your heart and let go...Then the day will come and end just so.

I can't
It won't
Undertow.
Heat infrequent
adapt or regret.
Spellbound weightless
Ageless pursuit.

People of depth have so much to share
They simply glide in mid-air.
Words and beauty like warm smiles peek,
When one is without a clue or in depths of a shallow creek.
It’s a tongue held firmly in place
When there is no grace
A loving stare with room to spare
A forgiving heart in times of need
A charity pulling on the heartstrings in we.
Stories yet unfold
Of people yet untold
A learning process proceeds
Like those who fly on Golden Wings.

One Percent:

Sure as the wind
Caught by the eye
Processed until it shines.
A thoughtful smile
A provoking style
Childish, yet deeply intertwined.
A forceful gaze
A displeasing ease
Masculine tones of rhetoric form absolutes
On blank covered stares.
Men on fire
Never seek common desire
And words will never break.
Not people or friends or a lost loves anger who forsake.
Not money or status
Or a good pair of legs while I’m at it
In jeans or ties that fit.
Not actions but a light that passes
That has us in its grip.
It’s sometimes loud but never speaks.
It fails on those who are weak.
This eternal might
Is a light that out shines
Human pride and conditions of the mind.
It can’t be bought
It can’t be taken
It can’t be changed
Or rearranged.
Call us fools
Or what have you
Judge us and be dismayed
For we are here to stay
To fight in delight
And maybe bring hope into the night.
To dream idly away
On those that will allow us to stay.

One of many
Stillness life
A beauty so rare with the smell of innocence in her hair.
That smile and youthful gaze.
Taken on that sad day.
Grown have we to teach and pray?
Grown have we to take the time
And cherish each day?
Grown have we to hold each other’s hand?
But no! We have fallen so far and so fast
Given into things that never last!
Where were we in her time of need?
Where were we never hearing her scream?
Where are we when children play?
Letting them think and go astray?
Open the doors and let the Elephant in
Speak and be patient to one so small…so thin…
We must echo and reach within
Giving our children to fight and reach for the light!
We cannot teach if our hearts are broken and shattered.
Look away
Look away
For the things that matter…..

Oh passion how it loses its luster with eyes of old and hands of taint never to woo the love of past’s mistakes.
Oh how the well is dry between fiery eyes that once lit up the skies;
In the days I called you mine.
Yet, it still steams endlessly with youthful grip and fists clenched with heart.
Some let it flow like sand, never taking part….
In the right hands passion burns like no other sun!
The old becomes new under the watchful churn of breaking sweat..
Sweet as sin, those dark shadows give in and passion sweeps laying to rest the heart beneath your dying chest.

                                                 Tainted
Where do you go when you’re sixteen or so?
Life has just begun under your tainted sun.
Where do you go when you’re twenty or so?
Life has just begun under your tainted sun.
Where do you go when you’re thirty or so?
Life is just begun under your tainted sun.
Where do you go when you’re forty or so?
Life has just begun under my tainted sun.
I like this taint.
The color it makes…The sweet sound it creates.
The warmth and the barriers it breaks!
Such this taint for nothing is truly what we make
It takes many to formulate
But a questioning heart will always penetrate
The years of taint this world makes.

Tears of Heaven:
These fallen times
I see men women and children combine.
In homes for the elderly together they thrive.
Back to what God provides.
The want is laid to rest
While the need simply profess.
Family starts to grow
Back onto the vine they go.
By an invisible hand that’s sure and divine
Their will – is set aside.
Lovers leave lovers in dreams that form
From the world and all that’s adorned.
If not these obscure lies
Would they simply fly?
The wicked know not why they stumble
Until they know Christ that is humble.
To love one is to honor the God within.
Not to play on the playground of sin.
Not to break the heart of God that’s within.
To know your soul you must break free
Speak no evil and give endlessly
Fight the good fight and be bold!
For no one stands against you when God has you in his fold.

That Thing of Old

I see this disease
It’s long since been
It stands between hope and a world once been.
It lurks and cleverly leans in to play
On young minds feeding on hearts that know nothing, but dismay.
It raves and ravages endlessly
Gnawing on words and music
Till there is no sanity.
We laughed into the night
Clicking our glasses and thoughtful passes
Lured into battle – On the floor of thoughtless matter.
So we danced and my soul shivered
Another life taken
I felt sickened.
Fault not the looming canopies
Nor the tent’s of different clarities.
Nor the heartless or wicked
Truth be told…we’ve all been stricken.
We blame each other
No cause, no season.
That Thing of Old at your moral center
Seeks it’s way in like a small wooden sliver.
We maybe dust and frail upon sight
If we guard our hearts things turn out right.

The Ageless Fool  -
The ageless fool parts to play
Young, old, white to black.
So many fools melt away.
Summer to Winter,
Sunrise and Sunset.
Fools be known to never forget!
Foolish kisses and foolish love.
Foolish writings and foolish song.
Fool fool fool
A fool for all the world to see.
No God no Glory
What fool can never be?
High or below on foolish ground or mid-flight.
Foolish wings spring forth and give me delight!
An echo beckons off high toward walls
And so I write..
Be a fool now and then or lose its plight…

The Giving of Self
Stand alone with your pride
In the first angels light so your will divides
Brilliant displays of emotion
And wasted commotion
Pressed in hot breath and thoughtless desire
I am consumed by your fire.
At least this moment has depth
To be known by your hand and pasts regrets
Unlike others whose bodies fold
Under the weight of a love that’s cold.
Iron meets heat with desire and pain.
Together they form sun and rain.
But to be held in darkness alone
To be held without mercy or care
To be numb and expressionless in a world that’s unfair
Single shadows are all that’s there.

The Old Brings New

Some make it most don’t to be sweeter and refined
To walk slowly not because of age but with enjoyment of time.
To sit on a bench or to stare out endlessly
Taking in moments with glee as the sun shines brilliantly.
The time for haste has come and gone
The spirit moves on and on
The laughter of children become like music
And the crowds become more like human
Materialism has faded from bright to dead last
Art and talk blend like coffee in leathery hands
Peace at last my soul does sing
In A Time Of Old, All will ring…..

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Left crumbs in my bed,
Clothes on the floor and taken me for a lot more.
It’s a movement of a different eye,
A different shape
A different style,
Place and time.
The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Left dishes in the sink
A bald tire here and there.
Bills on the table and no food to spare.

The sweetest smile I"ve ever seen;
Shook its judgmental head and left me squarely dead.
Running off in tow.
Screaming words obscene, Then laughing in-between!

The sweetest smile I"ve ever seen;
Wraps around upside down, then pulls me through.
Each year comes anew.

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Comes in red, green, orange and even yellow too.
Some bright and others blue.
Different laughs that echo and others that heckle.

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Snored so loudly!
On the floor! I could take no more!

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Hogged the bed – slurred, read and purred in my head.

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Never drove, not one inch! – so the distance I would go.
Just to hear its passionate sigh, steamy desire and gaze into its bedroom eyes.

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Has depth and vibe. It has a way to survive.
With all its doubts, screams and shouts.
It sometimes hides before it completely backs out.

The sweetest smile I've ever seen;
Will always be, a treasure from those who just can not be.
Will there be a smile just for me?
I’ll just have to wait and see…

The Unwritten Father

Easy and passive, like rolling hills of green.
Sprouting favorable wine over the course of time.
Plain as snow, as a beam of light filtered through a window pane.
Silence lazily shadows in a strange delight.
Kindness untouched, feelings unearthed.
Laughter escapes the pitter patter of the lost and found.

The brush of innocence and words of joy;
The eyes to the window, the depths of its trust.
The curious nature and all it’s fuss.

To have love and to have loved, It crushes and expands.
As fate would have, like faith, it demands.
I miss the days of her long blonde hair,
The pouty lips and that angry stare.
The nights and days and her bouncing carefree steps.

There is no love that will ever compare
To that of a child whose love was so rare.
I’ll mis her all my days and she will never know
How this unwritten father loves her so.

A sudden thud I heard it call
A familiar pain I could have sworn.
It wrestled in its fine feathery cloth
As I watched the skies turn to bitter dusk.
It churned inside my head
Down into the place where I laid it…..
And felt perfectly stead.
It balanced all these years and now does it dare to tumble
Break and shatter with all else.
So what does it matter?!
No more room, for ****** things
No more room, untouched by time
No more room, words left unclimbed!
No more room, today it seems
Endlessly dousing the fire set raging before me.
No more room I want to shout!
No more room so let me out!
I cannot breathe in this mess!
How forked tongues lash and break my flesh!
Just another day
Another moment…..
Another thought passes…
Another thud then thump!
how funny and thus ends so..

Tides of Echo Park

I sat between two trees..
A rock between my knees, the dirt soft and wet.
I held it in my hand and for a second I felt you there...
The smile on my lips
The simple joy between
and briefly how we came to be..
Then life called to me and so I let it be
the rock dropped from my hands
another time and another day
another creeping memory.
Stones at my feet...waiting just for me.

"Time well Spent

While I prayed one night on my knees
I ended with I love you lord, oh yes indeed.
A shiver ran down my spine
“how do you love me it said”.
And I could not reply.

How do you love someone who isnt there?
Not a word or sound is uttered when I’m in despair.
No touch no sight
No bright light.
No warm hugs to soothe me at night
Only walls of solitude where they all once stood.

Then it came to be..
How I loved; and whom? Oh yes by far..
So many loves lost to the stars.
And have I loved all therein?
A creeping death gave way as I searched within.

So many loves have scattered in the breeze…
What do I know of love and how its to be?
I knelt before the light
Took in its Godly might.
In time through toiled hands
Through books and good works by my fellow man.
God came to BE and then HE made me SEE.
Even when a heart is broken ten fold,
Love is a choice, through flaws that end and break.
Its stirs and strikes like the venom of a snake!
Be weary else nothing will ever fall in its place.
Peace at once, at last I know..

Through work I’ve known
Through the books I’m told
Through time well spent..
I’ve come to know the Christ, but least yet,

Oh, how I’ve loved and so I say
I love you Lord, now and forever..
Come what may.

I looked out and now I'm bound to play

but to share it all cause life worth living
in this rat race!

Universal Truths
Master your feelings and emotions as truth may tell
Or would you rather remain in the pit of hell?
Don’t get me wrong for loves embrace
But a single love should never be caged.
Single love while pure in form remains small and a fragmented in the world of closed doors.
It only grows but when in day light. Yet when night passes, and trouble is bound
Our sense of love cannot be found.
Such a ruse this lie of heart
It confounds and confuses even the most poetic hearts.
It makes its way, almost as if daily
And circles like a cloud.
It’s so pungent, but its smell can no longer be distinguished
Between the lie’s of hate and what comes between us.
So I say, youth be patient and date to love with the knowledge of weakness.
Having knowledge of who and what
Gives you the speed,
The momentum that swings,
To walk away and succeed,
When you’ve given all players the seats they need.
Stepping stones are often thus,
And trust is always a must.
EDWARD PEREZ May 2014
Intelligence deludes you from that thing called heart,
That which you drank down years, it fell apart.
No one worthy to show you the way,
Half of you surface, only to see a cloudy day.
Time bent and broken though laughs provide,
Money well spent and Education supplies.
Ineffective in a cycle that spins,
In a world that screams more
How it shaped your inner core.
Iron circles crumble and shatter like stained glass,
A myriad of memories  shaken,  gone so fast.
So many goals and roads to take,
What a betrayal of the simplicity you forsake.
What a contrast and battle of two extremes,
Light never changes but still…It waits.

Vegas or Bust
So I must
Seek out and play in the dust.
The sun beams down on a city so proud
Where the lights are so bright
They keep you up all night!
This city boy
Loves nature and its call.
The owls the eagles and the forest so green.
The leaves the trees and those sunbeams!
Those cute shorts that girls roll up.
On a hike where they go bump bump bump.
But nothing so revealing can send me reeling.
It’s just plain ole *** appeal
And some of it isn’t even real!
However give me the city and its beat.
The walk along the streets.
The banter
The flow
Of a river I go.
Drink in hand and a strut in my step
Music and laughter
Fountain view shows
People that are after
Money and goodnights!
What a time! Every time I must confess!
Vegas! No Bust here
Just an amazing experience!**

What will I endure today or laugh away.
What things will I see that will come my way.
What sights or sounds or new music will be found.
What smiles and photos or rants will there be jotted down.
What games to play or drinks to pass.
What new lips to taste, to dine so fast.
What charms, what words, what rhymes to spout and shout!

What friend or foe or spirit will I plunder;
Finding a heart that beats asunder.
What a life this is! What colors and culture and people I find.
Such a joy I tell you what can be found.
