Monsoon
David Lessard Aug 2014
The rains beat wildly
against the hard earth;
seeking entrance to the womb
that gave them birth.

Causing flash flooding,
in gullies all around;
minor flooding in
several parts of town

The gusty winds blow
havoc,  with all things light;
enabling some of them,
to rise in unexpected flight.

Tumbling in the rain swept street,
they spin and race in fury;
like startled things they fly,
in one big, storm-filled hurry.

Monsoons hit the Arizona plains,
dust storms, hail and lightning,
thunder booms her mighty voice,
when close, it's rather frightening.

Senior softball.
David Lessard Mar 2015
We chase the ghosts of youth,
with glove and bat and ball;
running down the base-paths,
hoping we don't fall.

Like honey in slow motion,
we make our way to first;
panting... out of breath,
we hope our lungs don't burst.

If we're in the outfield,
we've "lost" the legs to run;
but it's the game we treasure,
it's mostly to have fun.

We laugh at our mistakes,
strikeouts and dropped flies;
it's but play... that we seek,
not self -regretted sighs.

Long gone, the grace of youth,
we muddle through the game;
and rest upon the off days,
tired... happy... lame.

September's child.
David Lessard Sep 2018
September's child is special
born in autumn's gold;
brother to the pumpkin
sister to the cold.

September's child is lovely
the heart's in the right place;
born in the changing leaves
adorned with God's own grace.

September's child is full of love
for family and for friends;
granting each an honored spot
with love that never ends.

September's child is filled with life
for enjoying nature's touch;
relishing the autumn rains
not too little, nor too much.

September's child is special
between the heat and cold;
graced with special beauty
graced by autumn's gold.

Great Expectations.
David Lessard Nov 2021
If I give you love
what will I get in return?
will it be acknowledged?
or will it be but spurned?
If I offer my love
will you be mine forever?
or will you laugh at me
and say to me   - not ever.
Am I just a fool in love?
head over heels and blind?
silly and sheepish, blushing
not knowing what's in my mind?
I stand on the steps of happiness
worried, lest I fall
falling at your feet
all curled up in a ball.
Columbus took a chance
and by God - he did all right
I cannot leave you now
without putting up a fight.
I smiled and said I love you
my voice began to crack
but your eyes lit up I swear
as you smiled at me right back!

Solitary Walk
David Lessard Nov 2021
Unexpected rain falls softly
on the arid ground I walk
glistening in the shadows
of the twisted weedy stalk.
Clouds drifted like a shroud
somber, gray and creeping
like wandering ghosts in fog
silent -   wispy -   weeping.
The coolness of the morning
embraced my face with pleasure
it kissed my cheek and brow
like a momentary treasure.
How sweet the breath of life
in 45 minutes of walking
no traffic and no noise at all
nothing marred by talking.
Unexpected rain fell softly
tickled my nose round every bend
as I left the trail of cottonwood trees
and finished at its end.

Love comes in many forms.
David Lessard Oct 2017
Love comes in many forms,
in a song or in a poem;
in a photo or a dream,
at work, at play, at home.
The beating of your heart's desire,
framed by love and perfection;
the pulse that quickens,
...until rejection.
The tongue that stumbles,
when he talks;
his sudden lurching,
when he walks;
his confidence,  once mattered,
now falls,  lies shattered;
he smiles, instead of speaking,
his body odor... reeking;
he's embarrassed and struck dumb,
his mind and tongue, now numb.
Love comes in many forms,
in silent words and shyness;
but next time that they meet,
he is at his very finest.
Love comes in many forms,
we take what we are given;
and do our best to give love.,
that's passionate and driven.

Solitary hiker.
David Lessard Mar 2015
Solitary hiker, trudging up the slopes,
breath quickened by the angle;
hallway up, I spot a rock, sit, and
let my legs below me, dangle.

Take in the valley, far below,
that lingers lovely in my gaze;
through mist-filled clouds,
and scattered haze.

I find my pulse on my carotid,
the big artery on my neck;
it's bounding and it's fast,
but I continue, on my trek.

I slow the pace with measured gait,
granny steps and slow walking;
nearing now the summit's crest,
my hips and legs do all the balking.

Solitary walker, his face now in the clouds,
congratulates himself at last;
looks out into the far horizons,
out to the mountains of his past.

Invisible Love.
David Lessard Sep 2015
You were mine, just for awhile,
although you never knew it;
you could always make me smile,
but somehow, we didn't fit.

A one-sided love was all it was,
you didn't know just how I felt;
a brief encounter, a short-lived buzz,
you never saw the way my heart did melt.

I could have loved you, if you let me,
but you had someone else in mind;
you never realized, you let me be,
somebody you would never find.

But love unreturned, is no love at all,
and so I went, my unhurried way;
you weren't around to see me fall,
I just slowly vanished from your day.

You were mine, for just a little while,
although you never spoke a word to me;
funny, how you always made me smile,
and never knew the day you set me free.

Fiesta scramble.
David Lessard Aug 2014
I blot the sun out with my thumb,
don't want to burn my eyes;
it's hot enough to fry an egg,
someday, by god, I'll try.

I'll place it on my car's hood,
in the middle of July,
in desert heat outside of town,
I will let it fry.

I'll take a magnifying glass,
in the case that it need be;
and my widest brimmed hat,
so the sun will not scorch me.

I'll take along some pinto beans,
huevos rancheros of a sort;
on corn tortillas with red sauce,
if it's good, I'll take snort.

A Mexican fiesta dish,
with jalapenos too;
then I will burn my mouth,
before my meal is through.

It is well with my soul.
David Lessard Oct 2016
There's nothing quite so grand as hiking,
to some secluded, green and grassy knoll;
where views show unobstructed beauty,
then I can say it's well, within my soul.

When I've reached the summit of success,
and I've realized the treasured goal;
then I can bask, in quiet satisfaction,
for it's well, so very well, within my soul.

When I ask myself the haunting question,
who it is, for whom the bell does toll;
I recall the captain of salvation,
and I can say, it's well, within my soul.

When I know, that without Him, I am lost,
when I'm aware, it's Him, that makes me whole;
then there's that peace that passes understanding,
and it is well, so very well, within my soul.

When I see waves, that kiss the fertile shore,
white-tipped water, on its merry roll;
then I have seen, a view of heaven's glory.
and all is well, so very well, within my soul.

A New England Memory.
David Lessard Nov 2021
The cold never bothered me
the snow and ice never fazed
the days of early childhood
never left me dazed.
The rain was always pleasant
it brought joy to my senses
the sight of damp stone walls
were my images of fences.
The summer days spent swimming
first - like a dog might do
but I became proficient
once the summer days were through.
Autumn days were magic
colored leaves came drifting down
jumping into heaps of them
was delightful I soon found.
Seasons of a growing boy
lodged deep in memory
printed here for you to read
thanks for sharing it with me.

Breathe In.
David Lessard Aug 2021
Breathe in, the fragrance of the morning
just past the dawn, when things are still
another day of life to cherish
get outside, beyond the windowsill

Take a little walk and stretch your legs
in the woods or open pasture
get the blood to flowing freely
don't let inertia be your master

You were made for moving, not for sitting
walk off the stiffness in your limbs
shut off the idiot's lantern in your room
put aside your silly foolish whims

Wake to a day that's spilling sunshine
bright light that nourishes the soul
if raindrop fall, don't be concerned
the one above is in control

Breathe in, the beauty that surrounds you
look to the mountains, not far away
discover wonder- on nature's trails
and thank God- for this favored day.

The Second Time Around...
David Lessard Mar 2016
Love's not better, the second time around,
not with you at least, in quick time I found;
you hadn't changed your frame of mind,
you were  too ruthless and still unkind.

The years had only made you bitter,
the time you had with me, you'd fritter;
I had more good things to say and do,
than moan and whine or compete with you.

My one divorce for you was not enough,
you still remained embroiled and rough;
so you caused me to go and make it twice,
because your love to me, it wasn't nice.

I only wanted for you to meet me halfway,
but for you, there's only one ****** way;
you wanted to be the domineering one,
well now the place is yours...have fun.

But don't expect to see me anytime soon,
can't stay with someone crazy as a loon;
love's not better the second time around,
not with you at least; that much I found.

Tomorrow's World.
David Lessard Feb 2016
I await tomorrow's world,
the promises and hope;
that come to all believers,
as with today, we cope.

I await the sunshine,
that never fades away;
that dissipates the clouds,
that obscures our way.

The day when troubles end,
when all's replaced with joy;
that I knew in innocence,
when I was but a boy.

I await tomorrow's world,
when the morning star will come;
and our restless adversary,
will completely be undone.

I await with prayers and song,
to usher in that day;
when the world will be at peace,
when they will know the Way.

Evening walk.
David Lessard Aug 2017
The bear grass looks so lush,
in the fading of the light;
it's pleasure on my vision,
as the day turns into night.

The breeze is soft and gentle,
like a lover's sweet caress;
the coolness is a balm,
in this eve of summer's rest.

Jax leads me by his leash,
he knows the way back home;
there is no pressure tugging,
it's like he's free to roam.

In the distance, mountains,
take on a purple hue;
pastoral hills abound,
the sky grows darker blue.

The evening's walk's refreshing,
it clears the mind and soul;
erasing turbulence,
easing living's toll.

One life to live...
David Lessard Mar 2021
Racing down the hall to a code response
I arrived breathless at the scene
grabbed an AMBU bag
it was like something out of a dream:
Surreal yet stark reality
we all had parts to play
we did everything we could
but the patient slipped away.
We zapped, compressed the chest
I gave the oxygen real fast
the patient didn't change
we knew he wouldn't last.
But we we did everything we could
but alas, it wasn't enough
sometime life is way unfair
sometimes life's just rough.
So it was today
so it may be tomorrow
but we're committed to saving lives
as well as enduring sorrow.

A treasured piece remains.
David Lessard Apr 2016
We weren't meant to live forever,
here today and gone tomorrow;
Father Time has pulled his lever,
enter now, the grief and sorrow.
Life's sweet blossom fades away,
gone too soon, the gasping breath;
be thankful for this gifted day,
that doesn't end in our own death.
Sing a song of praise for living,
and celebrate this day of life;
grace the time with much forgiving,
gain the peace that obscures strife.
What we had, will pass forever,
yet a treasured piece remains;
for those we loved forget us never,
in our times of troubled pains.
Memories will last a lifetime,
and the good will never die;
and like the poetry we rhyme,
it won't fade with our last sigh.

Poets.
David Lessard Apr 2018
Poets are a common breed,
they're a dime a dozen;
my uncle was a poet,
as was my second cousin.

Some are mad romantics
some are crazy, like a loon;
they write at all the odd hours,
morning, night, and noon.

The good ones leave you gasping,
at each turn of phrase;
you envy their technique,
strive to learn their ways.

The bad ones leave you laughing,
as they offer empty blithering;
you tend to scratch your head,
is there such a word as glibbering?

But, bless them all for trying,
to say what's on their minds;
it only goes to show you
it takes all different kinds!

Praise poem
David Lessard Feb 2017
Father, You know what each day brings,
You know my thoughts before I think;
can you hear my heart?   It sings!
my joy is filled, up to the brink.
I praise Your name with much thanksgiving,
for the sunshine of each day;
for the graciousness of living,
to follow God's sweet, wondrous way.
All the beauty, stems from Your mind,
all of the world's great, vast array;
all humans of a varied kind,
at work, at leisure and at play.
Give me wisdom and compassion,
to seek out the best of You;
fill me now, with love and passion,
make me Yours, before You're through.
I acknowledge my Creator,
I am blessed, because of Him;
keep from the instigator,
who incites the thoughts of sin.
Give me peace and understanding,
give me shelter from each storm;
give me insight in my planning,
by Your fire, keep me warm.

A soul at peace.
David Lessard Mar 2017
At rest, with sunshine on my face,
I feel it stretch across my cheek;
warm, with Spring's approaching grace,
it pleasures me, this day, this week.

My soul's at peace, with honeyed air,
I bask contented, my worries, nil;
I've no troubles and I've no care,
the morning's splendid, calm and still.

How very sweet to be; satisfied with life,
relishing the moments, in synch with mood;
free from hurt and pain and constant strife,
no depression, no sadness; no need to brood.

It's such relief, to set aside  my weary anger,
the burden now, has left this grateful heart;
with it, I was always on the edge of danger,
how glorious it is, to see its rage depart.

What is this source, that brings me to this end?
it's faith in God and in His blessed Son;
knowing Him, has taught me how to mend,
knowing that the battle I have fought, is won.

A Sad Disgrace
David Lessard Nov 2021
My last poem went to cyberspace
thrown back in my own face
of it I can find no trace
I suppose it's a sad disgrace

I had a good one going
the seasons of life showing
dying tragically, not knowing
only the sun and moon still glowing

A speck of dust...is man
nothing goes according to his plan
but he fights as long as he can stand
not content with the earthly life he ran

He's forgotten his own Maker
the earth and heavens shaker
he was never a giver, always a taker
he was never authentic, always a faker

So, God forgot him and his sins
his foolish fancies and whims
his beer, his whiskies and gin
where his soul and his mind had been.
David Lessard May 2015
Shall I liken you to a day in summer?
You are more lovely and at peace,
Harsh weather dwells in the month of May,
and summer is soon departed.
Often, the heaven's eye shines bright,
and at times, it's rather clouded,
sometimes the climate's not so fair,
and Nature falls short of perfect.
But the eternity of your summer doesn't die,
and the beauty of your years remains alive,
Death has no  dominion over you,
you always will remain upon my heart.
So long as men can see and hear;
you'll be forever with me dear.

I tried kale once
David Lessard Nov 2021
I tried kale once    I suppose it is like medicine   if it tastes bad it must be good for you     I am not swayed by that logic.

I don't know much about kale
could they make of it an ale?
I'd consider drinking that
crushed into liquid inside a big vat.
I'd give it a shot, maybe two
if I didn't puke when I was through
can it be any worse than hair tonic?
wouldn't that be a bit ironic?
Other veggies I love to hate
seldom make it to my plate
I taste them with a finger
then let them alone to linger.
Like chock boy and collard greens
I leave them to my putrid dreams
untouched   unloved   uneaten
even when they may be sweeten.
That's my take on kale
I'm still hardy and I'm still hale
take it i you must
but the others I don't trust.

Questions In My Head
David Lessard Jul 2021
Always...the questions in my head
why we live- What happens when we're dead?
Where do I search, where do I look?
man has no answers, but they are in the Book

The one rejected by those who walk the earth
of real and certain truth, there is a dearth
Man's problems hidden from their view
answers are before them, if they only knew

Along the way there's a bump, a poke, a ****
the time to stop and listen, a call from God
Everything becomes both bright and clear
answers are provided for those with ears to hear

The Way's not easy, the price of change is high
but you'll possess true knowledge before you die
Trials and tests still come each day
but wisdom comes to those who walk His Way

With peace and assurance you'll be blessed
great rewards will come when you confess
God has a plan to save us in His way
Satan loses, when Christ returns to stay

Let's live each day in service to the King
walking in God's way, eternal life will bring.
David Lessard Feb 2018
Hold me,  when you feel desire,
kiss me,  as the day grows long;
set my heart and soul on fire,
listen to,  my sweet love song.
Hold me,  when the times get lonely,
kiss me,  when I first awake;
tell me,  I'm your one and only,
share with me,  the world I'll make.
Touch me,  when you want me close,
give to me,  your arms at night;
and of your love,  a great big dose,
that will satisfy all night.
Hold me,  as the dawn comes breaking,
kiss me,  when the shadows fall;
touch me,  when your heart is aching,
and,  as the sunset,  softly calls.
Hold me,  when you've lost a friend,
kiss me,  even though you're blue;
for me,  the moments never end,
as long as they still end with you.

The shepherd knows the flock
they answer to his call
he keeps them safe from harm
so none of them will fall;
he rules them all with love
guards them through the night
under heaven's stars
until the morning's light.
The shepherd gives them feed
that nourishes the heart
that gives them happiness
to every daily start.
He keeps away their foes
that seek to do them wrong
giving peaceful whispers
with a litany of song.
The shepherd guides the flock
past the obstacles of life
away from present danger
avoiding troubled strife.

Wanderlust.
David Lessard Mar 2017
There's a gypsy in the heart of me,
that wants to run the road;
a vagabond is lurking there,
to the fields, my heart's been sold.
There's a restless soul that's yearning,
to wonder at the wild;
a carefree, urging spirit,
of an enchanted child.
There's a ***** inside my blood,
that never will be still;
to hear and see all nature,
until I've had my fill.
There's a traveler in my mind,
who hears the seashore's song;
to walk along the beaches,
to escape the cities throng.
There's a gypsy in my musings,
that clamors for the highway;
ever searching, ever seeking,
an endless, nameless byway.

If I give my love to you,
would you handle it with care?
would you give it due respect,
can I count it, being there?
If I give you my tomorrows,
would I see them everyday?
would you honor all my dreams,
in those times when, you're away?
And will we have those moments,
when your hand's enclosed in mine?
when our hearts and souls embrace,
not just now, but all the time?
Can you treat love with the truth,
and not deny it with a lie?
can you give me honesty,
to succeed, not merely try?
Then I'll give my love to you,
knowing happiness will reign;
knowing that the days ahead,
our minds will be the same.

You said that you'd be there,
to catch me when I fall;
all I felt was empty air,
you weren't there at all.

You said you'd lift me up,
whenever I was down;
your leaving was abrupt,
you didn't stick around.

You said you'd be my honey,
through the laughter and the sadness;
but what's happened isn't funny,
now I know this thing called madness.

You said "I'll always love you,"
it was just the other day;
but hell is what you put me through,
and I never had my say.

You said I was your loving lad,
and you were my bonny bride;
but love is not the thing you had,
only arrogance and pride.

You said you'd love me till the end,
but the end, it never came;
you disappeared, around the bend,
as I called, in vain, your name.

I'll bring you flowers for your hair,

to show you that I care,
and I'll put chocolates on it.

Each treat will be a kiss from me,
a sweet to satisfy your ruby lips;
then perhaps, your heart will see,
the way my heart does funny flips.

I'll give you happiness to share,
to let you know that you are dear to me;
and you can have my love, if you so dare,
maybe then, your eyes can see.

See the yearning that in my soul does hide,
see the reticent  aura in my being shy;
know that I desire you by my side,
know the longing that in my heart does lie.

I will give you laughter for your tears,
a hand to hold when obstacles appear;
I'll help to chase away your fears,
all you need to be, my love, is near.
David Lessard Oct 2014
Tell me not that time does heal,
it's all a fallacy;
it cannot heal the wound,
that You have left for me.

It cannot mend the heart,
that day that you did die;
all I have are questions,
they seem to end in WHY?

All I have are memories,
of a pain that never ends;
that tears the soul inside,
with the sorrow that it sends.

With weary thoughts of gloom,
that do not pass away;
the hurt resounds forever,
I feel it still...today.

Tell me not that time does heal,
you'd be lying if you did;
time, it has not gone away,
it's only now been hid.

Baseball, the national pastime,
one of the slowest games in the world;
hot dogs, beer and half-crazed fans,
once the sphere is rudely hurled.

The rain, the wind, the humid days,
we sit for hours and cheer;
what is it about this loony game,
that to us the fans, endear?

We hate the ref, will taunt the ump,
we hoot and call out loudly;
they play the national anthem,
and most of us stand proudly.

The Red Sox and the Yankees,
the losers and the best;
it gives us fits and starts,
so much, we cannot rest.

But when that ball goes in the stands,
it's a lovely thing to see;
who can live without the game?
certainly, not me.

Road Kill.
David Lessard Aug 2014
The splattered skunk lies
spread eagled on the road,
creating a new white line,
where none existed before;
I fly on by at seventy-five
wrapped in  my race car mode,
the skunk is mangled badly,
his inner being has no core.

Huge black ravens hippity-hop,
as I close the gap between us,
nonchalantly, as if to say,
hey- I was here before you;
I watch them dodge me and
I mutter out a silent cuss,
the mess is hardly recognizable,
a mass of protoplasm I call goo.

The stench of dying musk prevails,
gets you coming and gets you going,
I breathe though my mouth,
but the odor still is prevalent;
there are dead animals on the street,
dried blood not longer flowing,
bigger ones can wreck your auto
or leave one hellacious dent.

We **** them this way or another,
with guns and our pollution,
some that were, are now no more
extinct, or **** close to it;
I wish we could pass a law
or come up with a resolution,
that saves all creatures from our wrath,
before the day we rue it.

but short lived and brief;
tears poured out in sorrow,
an outpouring of grief.

Soon, the sun, will shine again,
clouds will lift from earth;
and we'll hear again the laughter,
of someone's joy and mirth.

Shadows, pass, along with gloom,
the sadness melts away;
tomorrow beats with new-found hope,
and life renews each day.

Gone, the veil, that covers us,
swept aside, the pain;
comes once more, the strength,
from adversity, we gain.

The rain, is but, a memory,
the tears are dried and past;
we forge on to the new year,
with the goal our love will last.

Must we go on like this?
no embrace, no kiss?
must we fight once more?
when will you walk out the door?
Leaving me and love behind
with someone else for me to find
can't we reconcile the past
and rescue out lost love at last?
Must we go on like this?
ignoring things that once we missed?
passing each other in silence
all that's left is violence.
First the slap, then the push
no more beating round the bush
leaves a sad and tragic ending
that is way past mending.
Must we go on like this?
what happened to the marriage bliss?
I sit and ponder, think and muse
the day it all went down the tubes.

Love's throwaway.
David Lessard Aug 2018
I threw away a love
because it was one sided;
she was not the girl for me
because I have decided.

She was just a dear friend
not the love I wanted;
but we grew too close together
and her pleasant body taunted.

I threw away a love
like tissue I've discarded;
she was too possessive
I left her broken-hearted.

She was like a clinging vine
when I escaped her clutch;
I didn't miss her then
and now, too, not much.

I threw away a love
it was a one-way street;
she was just a friend
I happened to just meet.
David Lessard Oct 2016
Don't call me your sweetheart,
I'm not your sweetie anymore;
your sweetheart left a while ago,
when I walked out that door.

At first, it was just quibbling,
why this, why that, what for?
then it became a battle,
then it became a war.

I just wanted love and kisses,
you wished to be, Top Gun;
what once was two in love,
was no longer any fun.

So I gave you what you wanted,
your freedom and your choice;
I hope that you're contented with,
the sound of your own voice.

So, don't call me your sweetheart,
what we had is void and gone;
and all we have are memories,
like in some old country song.

Arizona Spring.
David Lessard May 2016
Shimmering, quivering, aspens,
bask in the evening sun;
peaks of the mountains high,
grow purple as day is done.

In the dense, dark pockets of spruce,
the streams run fast and clear;
the forest, strong and silent,
harbor the wolves and deer.

It's spring-time in Arizona,
the intrigue of nature's show;
in glorious sun and shadow,
that causes the heart to glow.

It's the stillness of the meadow,
that tempers the buzz of day;
that in quiet meditation,
shows its presence, now, in May.

I drink the nectar of splendor,
and gaze at the feast of the mind;
contented to be here... to see,
the painting, that I alone find.

Wishing.
David Lessard Jan 2016
Wishing you were here again,
to shorten winter's night;
to curl up to my backside,
until the morning's light.

Wishing you were here again,
so my sleep would be just fine;
and we could share together,
the dregs of last night's wine.

Wishing you were close once more,
so I could touch your face;
hold you close within my arms,
in one great big embrace.

Wishing you were here, with me,
to put my heart together;
to ease my tortured thoughts,
to tell you you're my treasure.

Wishing you were here again,
with days that would not end;
to rectify my wounded soul,
and my broken heart, to mend.

You reign.
David Lessard Oct 2016
You reign supreme Lord,
in each and every day;
in each and every task,
Your word shows me the way.

You reign in power Lord,
in the varied things I do;
in the mundane things of life,
Your light is shining through.

You reign majestic Lord,
in the sunrise and its set;
in the process of my mind,
Your presence is there yet.

You reign above it all Lord,
soon all knees will bow to You;
and all will be Your servants,
in the things they say or do.

You reign in glory Lord,
and to You I give all praise;
in humble, simple fashion,
throughout my life-long days.

Renewed.
David Lessard Aug 2020
Father thank you for this day
that comes softly and quietly
I stretch and yawn in my way
enjoying my coffee silently.
Watching Venus light the morn
before Old Sol takes reign
as the rays on the hills adorn
just as you first ordained.
I take up your book and read
the gospel is full of good news
your words are  mighty indeed
in me - the Spirit renews.
The world continues to falter
confusion and chaos and hate
people have left from your altar
abandoned themselves to fate.
I still pray and repent of my sin
I still ask for forgiveness from you
you've erased where once I had been
forgotten the man I once knew.

Love Is Not For Sale.
David Lessard Oct 2018
You can't buy my love
my love's not for sale
when love fails or falters
it leaves no human trail.

For love is of the heart
unseen, unheard, unknown
cocooned within the soul
from where all love is sown.

And then, one day, it strikes
from a glance that is returned
and like a fire, starting,
once ignited, it will burn.

Just keep the embers going
or the flame will soon go out
and your left with only questions
what the hell was that about?

You cannot buy my love
I give it of my choice
for if by chance I didn't
would not I lose my voice?

Grand Canyon Walk.
David Lessard Feb 2015
Walking down the canyon,
I'm hiking back in time;
when waters carved the notches,
in a different, ageless clime.

When dinosaurs were here,
when great fish swam the deep;
when time - it wasn't measured,
and was not a thing to keep.

When lava flowed like honey,
and volcanos shook the earth;
as creatures climbed and crawled,
evolving with each birth.

Now, I see the remnants,
of that distant other time;
when life began with fire,
as we struggled through the slime.

I tread the river's edge,
a mile below the rim;
breathe in the coming night,
as the sun begins to dim.

The canyon's vast and lovely,
too much to put in words;
instead, I listen quietly,
to sounds I never heard.
David Lessard Jan 2017
They will never take my crown,
nor the faith, I have, in You;
You've been with me far too long,
and have always, seen me through.
Tough times come and tough times go,
there are many tribulations;
still, I bow my knee to You,
in my constant admiration.
They will never take my crown,
for You, will not, forsake me;
their wounds are fast and fleeting,
yet, my soul, is singing free.
Nations fall and nations rise,
yet Your word, it never fails;
I stand firm in solid hope,
whatever the assails.
They will never take my crown,
although the body falls;
although the body dies,
the Spirits soul stands tall.

Hello Poetry
David Lessard Mar 2021
Hello poetry, did you talk to God today
or were you burdened with the world?
did you take some time to pray
as the day progressed,  unfurled?
Did you thank Him for your blessings
and for another day of life?
or were you full of second guessing
brought about with weary strife.
Did you say hello to strangers
or comfort those in sorrow
with no worry of fearsome dangers
but filled with hope of our tomorrow?
Did the thought of God prevail
did you remember to be humble
or did some troubled thoughts assail
to make you halt or quickly stumble?
Hello poetry, did you say hello to Him
and to His precious son that came?
to forgive us all from our sin
and not remain ashamed.

Blue and green
David Lessard Sep 2014
I'm dressed in blue and green today,
the colors of the mighty sea;
the color of the earth and sky,
flow in my veins through me.

Bicyclists climb distant hills,
'neath clouds of silver-grey:
bright dots among the landscape,
pedaling their hearts away.

I've never seen the grass this high,
nor so many shrubs in bloom;
Queen Anne's lace, lupine flowers,
dance in a breezy tune.

The monsoon rains have come,
with all it's frightful power;
with hard and driving force,
instead of just a shower.

Half a year's total comes quite fast,
flash flooding in dry creeks;
but nothing escapes water,
as it's own level it soon seeks.

Then the sun regains its throne,
once more, the sunny reign;
dispelling all dark clouds,
over shadowed plain.

Love's a gamble.
David Lessard Jul 2015
What do we know of love?
marriage is a 50/50 chance;
that two will stay together,
until the final dance.

We throw it all away,
with anger and with hate;
then do it all again,
with a different mate.

Admire those who stay,
wrapped up in their dream;
who never come apart,
unraveling at the seams.

They choose to stay together,
as the vows they chose to make;
through thick and thin they stay,
from the first slice of the cake.

What do we know of love?
it's a gamble at the start;
we can only hope,
it doesn't break your heart.

Praise Poem For The Father.
David Lessard Apr 2021
Thank You for this day my Father
full of cool and windy weather
we face the usual trials and tribulations
with joyous heart and merry measure.
Knowing that Your still in charge
though the devil is deceiving
causing turmoil, causing strife
setting wayward hearts to grieving.
But he will run when faced with truth
where God's light is brightly shining
where God's people spread His love
and His word is strong and binding.
We will praise His name forever
repenting of our sin and guilt
singing loud His songs of glory
till the edge of heaven tilts.
Till the sun goes down in darkness
till the dawn returns again
we will pray and ask forgiveness
till the Second Coming's end.

Fleeting images of love.
David Lessard Jun 2015
Just a little while with love,
just a time with pleasure;
just moments in the sun,
laughter, without measure.

Just a walk down memory's lane,
with pieces of a dream;
with fragments of a song,
with life's fast, fleeting scene.

Just a blink of sweet delight,
with romance and with you;
scattered pieces of a heart,
from folks who once, I knew.

Just a shadow from the sun,
that quickly fades in space;
just the lingering perfume,
of the earth's sweet face.

Just a flicker of the past,
when life was always grand;
when in love's embrace,
you softly took my hand.
