hot sourdough pancakes
smothered in maple syrup
cat at the window
Haiku
trapped, struck by lightning
falling up and falling down
frozen and on fire
Haiku
Dark turning to light
And nighttime turning to day
A parity sight
The cosmos come out to play
Black to white, reverse through gray
Tanka
Why do you attack
One another without remorse
And no good intent
Caring not what you destroy
Being entropy's patsy
early afternoon
golden sun through feathered clouds
a cat curled asleep
Haiku
The white dove wandered through the wool wind and wintered night
Would she ever learn to fly
High winged tilting the sky
No answer flew the ruling wind
bright little pearls
sparkling white in an arc
i love your smile
Senryu
I am not perfect
Nor is perfection my goal
But consciousness is
Haiku
pink coral petals
spreading softly to my touch
the warm scent of musk
Senryu
grey clouds crowding in
the desultory rain drifts
pigeons mob for crusts
strutting on pink feet they search
the unforgiving asphalt
of the glass, concrete canyon
stalked by umbrellas
Choka
i chaw a trifle
a quid of desparate thoughts
soon hawked on a page
Senryu
No, i do not chew tobacco
Carefully chosen
Words in lines, woven surely
Raising my spirits
Haiku
Those dry little words
So neat upon their pages
Filled with blood and tears
Staunching my lettered bleeding
I wrap my lines and tighten
Thought and emotion
Combined, distilled and served up
With text, neat and dry
i love your body
its sweet topography
and sublime measure
i love your colouring
so pleasing to my eyes
and perfect for your form
i love your silken skin
and its electric touch
that always speeds my pulse
i love the way you move
your femininity
a poem to my heart
i love your voice's sound
its rising and falling
no sweeter song exists
i love your sparkling eyes
full of wisdom and fun
so beautiful they are
but most of all my love
i love wondrous you
Choka
Dealing with the mad
You have to find their logic
And build from there
Though it really can be said
There are many points of view
She is a flower
And I am a honeybee
Nuzzling her petals
you are so profound
superior to us all
inside your bubble
Senryu
poppies in the wind
symbols of those forgotten
and lifetimes stolen
Senryu
Small clouds scudding high
Mist growing on the water
The day begins red
And fish leap all a glitter
I smile, drinking my coffee
Tanka
the words that you speak
and how you say them to me
disagree sometimes
Senryu
Imprisoned by love
With sweet cupid the jailer
Never felt so free
There is as much difference between a collection of mentally free citizens and a community molded by modern methods of propaganda as there is between a heap of raw materials and a battleship.
the wealth of your life
is in the love that you sow
and gently nurture
Senryu
Oh you fanatics
Slaying in the name of god
Your vicious mayhem
Will never pass for holy
Think, who really is your lord?
Tanka
the rain is pouring
crowds of people are running
for the last train home
Haiku
Umbrellas held high
rubber boots splash and splatter
a drowning parade
Haiku
stormy windy day
my windows full of rain drops
my heart full of you
Senryu
raindrops on spruce leaves
beneath a flourescent sky
midday silhouettes
Haiku
riding in the rain
through misty lanes and puddles
with friends and laughter
Haiku
She guides him to her
Silently and urgently
Outside, rain falls hard
Cars make wet pavement hisses
And sirens wail through the night
in my life again
saying that you love me
only time will tell
Senryu
Roses at sunrise
dew covered and succulent
welcoming the sun
warming from its honeyed touch
their nectar's strong scent rising
luring bees and butterflies
to land upon their petals
and taste their rich sweet pollen
in the clear dawn light
Choka
we shared our stories
every little detail
and i embraced yours
my heart opening to you
but perhaps that frightened you
this intimate exposure
for you ran away and hid
refusing to engage me
and now i see you sliding
back into that dark prison
and the arms of your jailers
from whom you sought your freedom
not so very long ago
our profound and tender love
strangled by your fears
Choka
i want to go home
to find my innocence
so long forgotten
Senryu
A clear icicle
Caught in the bright morning sun
Melting to teardrops
lemon yellow sun
through the cool white morning mist
on the woodland lake
bird song like flowers bursts out
above the mutter of ducks
whiffs of breakfast and coffee
come from the crackling campfire
and I feel one with it all
as the day begins afresh
with dawn's absolution
bright and full of hope
Choka
Struggled and wrestled
With my blankets this morning
Dark and rainy day
Haiku
tell the truth
but always remember
to be kind
Senryu
do you remember
the sweet love and dreams we shared
back when we were one
a sacrament within our hearts
our love was pure and was strong
we held each other in our arms
we laughed and cried till the end
But now you've gone far away
and we are no longer one
it's sad that our love has died
But I regret none of it
the memories of what we had
the little things and the big
they make me smile, laugh and
sing hallelujah
Choka
he was researching
the bottom of the barrel
when he fell right in
Senryu
always give respect
everyone deserves it
listen, be open
Senryu
Six with uncle ***
On the sooke, drifting, silent
Through green clear waters
His quiet companionship
And respect for me
Still nourishes to this day
He passed long ago
But what he gave me back then
I will treasure forever
I now tip my hat
To what I once strove to splat
Yes, even a gnat
Haiku...my apologies to Basho...although it is not common to rhyme a haiku, it is not forbidden
tossing and turning
thinking about you again
wishing you were here
Senryu
swimming slowly
starfish below, stars above
underneath the moon
gliding through still warm waters
my wake spining reflections
across the deep velvet night
as i cross the black lagoon
searching for the shore
Choka
clear cloudless morning
salmon pink and yellow skies
wrapped in nighttimes chill
i wait for my morning coffee
poking embers in the fire
chipped enamel *** ontop
from within the wood a song
clear and bright and strident sung
a robin greeting the day
brightens my expectations
pushes away the cobwebs
as the whiskey jacks arrive
wondering what's for breakfast
trout and eggs today my friends
take what you can steal
Choka
Upon this old world
Economic piracy
And social chaos
Are still common currency
Who keeps them legal tender?
Tanka
Hint: Nothing done to keep the market alive is random. They have market development plans and risk making and risk management plans. Simply put, Risk=Profits. The few know what to do and profit by it. The many do not know what is going on.
Autumn's light was fair
Bright, crisp, clear, with subtle warmth
Cycled up then down
the first sign of spring
an orange-red breasted thrush
a sweet feathered friend
with a borrowed english name
our american robin
with the binomial tag
of turdus migratorius
which means migratory thrush
but to most english speakers
it sounds like something else
something to be avoided
or picked up off of our lawns
not this cheerful bird
Choka
