Respect
Six with uncle ***
On the sooke, drifting, silent
Through green clear waters
His quiet companionship
And respect for me
Still nourishes to this day
He passed long ago
But what he gave me back then
I will treasure forever

can stunt us physically
also mentally
through loss of initiative
but its' greatest sin is that
it can isolate us and

Eden
flash, news bulletin!
you know that primal Eden?
we never left it!
and soon, if we do not change,
it will become a carcass!
yes, we need means of commerce,
a clean environment too.
there is one other factor
as important as those two
and that is social justice.
add these three parts together
and you are on the way to
true sustainability
and healing Eden.

Tis But A Story
Along the winding brook side
There limped a dying knight
Helm cracked and eyes fixed wide
He stumbled without sight

From far away he had come
For glory and for crown
But now he heard a drum
That marched him surely down

Falling to his knees he sighed
"Forgive me that I cry
My Lady love, my bride
But I do not wish to die."

The sun rose up the next day
And there beneath the brush
A cold stiff body lay
Sung over by a thrush

Now listen to me my friend
There is no great glory
To meet a hero's end
In some bard's sad story

The Judgement
do not judge harshly
life thrives in controversy
and differing views
but seek the truth of it
and understand what that means
always be compassionate
serve up truth tempered by love
and kindness to your fellows
free of  any prejudices
that is when and only then
may you pass judgement

Forgiveness
you lied to me
so very many times
i forgive you
for i can see inside you
and the pain that burns there
horrible wounds incurred
as an innocent child
please understand these truths
i am afraid for you
i am not judging you
i will not desert you
i will always be here
and i love the real you
but i have my rights too
and at this painful time
i need respect and truth
and solitude

O, the month of May, the merry month of May,
So frolic, so gay, and so green, so green, so green!
O, and then did I unto my true love say,
Sweet Peg, thou shalt be my Summer's Queen.

Now the nightingale, the pretty nightingale,
The sweetest singer in all the forest quire,
Entreats thee, sweet Peggy, to hear thy true love's tale:
Lo, yonder she sitteth, her breast against a brier.

But O, I spy the cuckoo, the cuckoo, the cuckoo;
See where she sitteth; come away, my joy:
Come away, I prithee, I do not like the cuckoo
Should sing where my Peggy and I kiss and toy.

O, the month of May, the merry month of May,
So frolic, so gay, and so green, so green, so green;
And then did I unto my true love say,
Sweet Peg, thou shalt be my Summer's Queen.

Soft Blue Shadows
Soft blue shadows
On deep and fleecy snow
Hiding what's beneath it's blanket

Soft blue shadows
Beneath the dead grey sky
A tiny cabin sits snowbound

Soft blue shadows
Through barbwire brambles I
Stare to see if life is within

Soft blue shadows
As from the brick chimney
Thin dark smoke is falling straight up

Soft blue shadows
Within a small landscape
So familiar, so remote
This poem was inspired by a painting by my Father, Alexander Francis Walker. He painted it shortly after he returned from the war. It has always given me a certain sense of dread, fascination, beauty, sadness and yearning.

and i stand on this hillside
among the grass and flowers
with my cheeks red and stinging
and think about you and i
without an answer
