to engage in vocal
agony
leaves no repose

& we've fought as far
as the altercation
goes

now please my
dear

won't you leave me
to my own?

I'll place my gilded cape
on the ground

& step far from
our throne

Today I found out that I am alone.
No one to turn to,
and no where to call home.
we lie amongst the scattered , shattered words
i wonder -
are we one voice or two?
our thoughts sail down the same stream
life throbs as one rhythmic beat within our ink necklaces
linked by our joint instinct to inscribe
engrave patterns of hope intertwined
amidst the drawings of despair

Humanity i love you
because you would rather black the boots of
success than enquire whose soul dangles from his
watch-chain which would be embarrassing for both

parties and because you
unflinchingly applaud all
songs containing the words country home and
mother when sung at the old howard

Humanity i love you because
when you’re hard up you pawn your
intelligence to buy a drink and when
you’re flush pride keeps

you from the pawn shop and
because you are continually committing
nuisances but more
especially in your own house

Humanity i love you because you
are perpetually putting the secret of
life in your pants and forgetting
it’s there and sitting down

on it
and because you are
forever making poems in the lap
of death Humanity

i hate you
Hey you,

the one i like,

you’ve got a pretty soul.

Tell me,

is love only something that

pretty people

can produce?

I am

a poet

my soul

eager to the sky.

If I

tell how

I could rip myself open

and let the creatures fly out of my chest

be they eagles

be they Locusts

the meaning

will die.

As He said,

” thought once spoken

is untrue”

let me be silent

not speak at all

but explain myself

with kisses

on your

perfect skin.

And it’s fifty years
since Farmer Joe and Mary married
but Joe forgets;
Joe is always in La La land

Darl, do you know what day it'll  be
come Saturday?

says Mary, who’s still got all her teeth

No, says Joe
who's still got strong hands and feet
No, no, no…I don’t know – wait,
what was your question?

2
It’s our fiftieth, darl
says Mary
Let’s have a feast, invite the kids
and the neighbors
– and let’s **** a pig

O, says Farmer Joe
*I don’t know why
the pig’s got to take the blame
for something we did fifty years ago
...another existing poem transformed into verse...I love what happens, and the transformation...
Ah, all of you young and all my children
and all of you lovely ones
You throw us this lovely 50th anniversary party
and you honor me and my beloved wife
And all this food, and all these drinks
and celebration and dance and music…
It moves my heart…and you ask me to tell you
what 50 years of marriage have taught me,
what such a long marriage teaches,
and well, this is what I have learned:
*Well, a long marriage as such teaches you
all the qualities that make one human
and such qualities
I have learned
as loyalty and love and generosity and empathy
and understanding and give-and-take attitude
and the necessity of speech and the necessity to remain silent –
all qualities, and understanding,
dearest friends and my most loved ones,
qualities I need never have acquired O if only I had remained single
...a companion piece to my previous poem: "a pig for the fiftieth"...also based on an existing  joke, and yet they take on layers of meaning they don't seem to have in their prose existence...
Nothing else matters
And there's just you and me here
Your touch is of silk
I lay on pine bows
Beneath a star splattered sky
And dreamt and then woke
She came to me in moonlight
Morning cast her far away
