Dear Ice Cream
Connor Gilbreath Apr 2015
Dear Ice Cream
Why do you always trick me
I buy and eat you
But you tempt me, and I eat all of you
Then I have none left
But I want ice cream so much
I also want to be a runner
I want to be a swimmer
I want to be an athlete.
But I continue to eat you
Again
And again
And again.
What the heck.
I can be an athlete and still eat you
I shall be an ice cream eating
Race winning champion
Thanks to you.

Spring Break
Connor Gilbreath Apr 2015
On some bitter day sometime in winter
I dreamed of a future time
Where a warm breeze brushes my skin
Birds chirping in bright, budding trees
The vibrant greens and blues
Are clearer than a window
And bright as the sun
The smell of springtime is in the air
Flowers, fresh air and green grass
Standing under a cloudless sky
I take this all in, and feel refreshed.
Cleansed
But a commotion in the room
Brought me back to reality
And under those fluorescent lights
Breathing in the stale, stuffy air
I know springtime can not come soon enough.

Bacon
Connor Gilbreath Apr 2015
Sizzling, crackling, popping, cooking
Crunchy, greasy, meaty goodness.
Bacon is perfection
It can be a snack, a meal,
And goes on sandwiches
Because who has ever heard of an LT sandwich?
Nobody, because a BLT needs bacon
As much as me, you, and everyone else on this world
Needs bacon
Perfect, delicious, sizzling

Surprise is a Yellow Dog
Connor Gilbreath Apr 2015
Surprise is a yellow dog
It jumps out at you
Startles you
Makes your heart leap
And is always the unexpected
A surprise can be your greatest dreams
Or a chilling nightmare.
Surprise cant be predicted
Or thought out
It is just a surprise.
It is a yellow dog

Dogs
Connor Gilbreath Apr 2015
When I'm feeling sad, dogs make it better
When I'm doing homework, dogs make it better
Even when writing poetry, dogs make it better
But what is it about dogs
Yes, they're happy and fuzzy
Playful and funny
But a dog is more than that
A dog is both friend and family,
A strange creature that loves you
no matter what you do
When a dog sees you
It is not annoyed or mad
It is happy and glad
And far superior to a cat
