The gates of heaven opened wide
As the angels yelled and cried
The sky was alight with the glow of their spears
Humans on earth looked up in wonder
As the sky was torn asunder.

Fly
Fly away into the darkness of the night
The stars will reach out their ethereal light
Fly away into the night
The moon will lure you with its gravitational might
Fly away into the night
To the planets in their rhythmic orbit
Fly away in the night
To the sun and its warm embrace

Stars twinkle in the inky black sky
Fire and power radiate from this fiery orb
Explosions emanate from an overwhelming nebula
Yet writers compose prose about this radiant crown
Yet wishers wish upon this lustrous glimmer in the darkest of nights
Yet travelers look upon them as a beacon of hope
Yet children sing about them in their quaint songs
Stars twinkle the inky black sky; celestial bodies of hope love and power

You coax the stars from the heaven
With your words so enticing
You can make the saddest of days joyful
With your laugh, so light and airy
Your smile dims the sun's bright rays
Your eyes so ever-changing stormy blue and emerald green
They put Poseidon's realm to shame
You carry my fragile heart so tender
And ease all my pain
You bring out the best in me

I wish we could have gazed upon the stars together
And seen the diamonds twinkling in the sky
I wish we could have stared at the moon so bright
And full in the heavens
I wish we could have spent more time talking
Together just you and I
These things I wish o'er and o'er again
As the diamonds rain from the sky

The tide washes away the traces of your footprints beside me. It erases your physical presence in my life with gentle lapping waves but the emotional ties cannot be severed so easily...but soon the ocean will smooth the rocky hardness of my heart and make it pliable. Soon I will be able to look back and see you only as a speck from the shore.

Not really poem form but I like it like this!

The night is filled with fiery untamed thoughts,
Confusing, errant, and new
Swirling in my head
Like smoke rising from its fire counterpart
Trying to decipher these signals from afar,
And instead they come faster and faster
Like fire eating at the brush
Smoldering and sizzling in my brain
