Melancholia
Sydney Lucero Nov 2015
Bathroom floors are always colder
when your face is flushed red.
Fill the room to the brim with tears.
Build a rowboat out of broken bones
and sail never ending waters.

An eternity of rapids,
just waiting to engulf
everything you never were.
Currents will try to take you.
Your chances are better
if you swim out to the side.

Nonetheless,
a never ending cycle:
around and around
and around your head.

If the vast waters do not steal you
away, the sun will blind you.
An interrogation room lamp
asking you questions like,
"Why can't you love yourself?"
Smoldering your body
from the inside out.

Fill your lungs with smoke,
preserve their condition,
recommence your silence.

Terra firma awaits you.
Just please remember,
beauty doesn't always
exist close-up.

When the shore betrays you,
leaves your throat dry,
frame barren;
You will thirst.
