You alert me to when someone is

You buck me up with a secret signal

The only way to learn is the hard way
so some people say.
I like subtle teaching.
Let it hold sway
but if you think you're dense
then there's no false pretenses here,
getting hit on the head
with the truth thru a can of mace.
You obey.
Why not obey is an
institution emphasized
societe'.
"Get in line."
"Cooperate
and graduate, or else."
"hear what I say.

A Stay of Execution
Charles Sturies Oct 2017
The Neil Diamond song of
those last 2 years - Melody Road
tells me the seconds tick away
to this deadline and that
deadline that I've set
for myself
to be goal-oriented for once.
Purposes I learned
at first as in Aristotle
but aimless wandering
has made me believe
in the subconscious
and how the sledgehammer
might land
right in my hand.
So settle down
I tell myself,
regroup,
and don't be afraid
to have some goals
rather than prosper

To say good morning in the afternoon like
Odd ***** doesn't become me as I greet
You on the morning-side,
The flip side
So you can smell the flowers in the
Early morning dew.
Open your eyes to get a style out
And smell, the morning coffee brewing-
Be you old-time movie starlets in

And Dorothy Malone or my favorite love

Burgers I've Liked
Charles Sturies Aug 2017
I do like home-made burgers, the kind that our mothers used to make on Saturday night that even though they put hair on the chest - I felt like I had enough of that.

I like cook-out burgers straight-up, though.

I like the Big Mac. It's easy to get down.

I love the Whopper! It's so juicy cool.

I like the thick burgers that Hardees puts out, especially the baby-back rib one, even though the fat nauseated me and us Muslims aren't supposed to eat pork.

I like the mushroom and swiss, one of my favorite ones, it's got mushrooms.

I like the bacon cheeseburger. Once again, I shouldn't be eating the bacon, though.

Steak-n-Shake I'm unimpressed with, although I used to like their steak burgers with pickles and ketchup back when Steak-n-Shake was good, as well as their cheeseburger with 2 dill pickle spears and their lettuce-tomato burger used to be really tasty.

By the way, I'll throw in that I like the Chicago Dog much more that any old burger.

And that the bacon and cheeseburger is my favorite.

Their hits are like top 40 country -
That's just as good as a flood of classic rock on top 40 FM stations.
Hits like they had in Cotton Candy (Hirt),

may sound trite and stale to real music outies
and long haves erudite and fascinating,

There was the backfield tandem of Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davies on several West Point football teams of the UOS.

There is that power hitting duo of the modern day Yankees - Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge.

There were those great power hitters of the 70s, I believe, that seemed to come in clusters like Mike Schmidt, Breen Downing, and yes, I believe, John Milner.

There was, of course, Ruth and Gehrig that stood out on the 1927 Yankees.

There's Hawke Leonard and James Harden, an unsung pair of the San Antonia Spurs and the Houston Rockets, respectively, in pro basketball that stand out.

There's Stephan Curry and Kevin Durant, a Mutt and Jeff combination in the Golden State Warriors.

There was a couple of gifted first to play on a University of Illinois basketball team African Americans that were tantalizing good at that time - Mannie Jackson and Governor Vaughn.

There was those 4 great old time Boston Celtics guards; Bob Cousy, Bill Sharman, K.C. Jones, and Sam Jones.

There was Bill Bradley and Dave Debusschere manning the wings of the New York Knickerbockers pro basketball teams of the late sixties, I believe.

There was Ron Kissinger and Glenn Becker, the keystone duo on the Chicago Cubs of the sixties, I believe.

There was Mainstay, reliable pitcher for the Casey Stengal dynasty teams - Vic Raschi and Allie Reynolds and there were great teamsmen of Vince Lombardi's pro football Green Bay Packers Super Bowl team like Dave Hammer, Forrest Gregg, and Boyd Dowler.

Short
Charles Sturies Aug 2017
There's Billy Short, a promising pitcher in the Yankee chain back in the mid to late fifties, I believe, that had a brief stay with the parent team.

There's Chris Short, a successful pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies back in the mid to late sixties, if I remember correctly.

There is short as in Tim, who I remember as "some character" a year behind me in high school who was in a couple of "cool" cliques, something which I wasn't cut out for.

There's short as in shorttimers, which was slang for an enlisted man in the army during Vietnam who, partially because he was a draftee or for other reasons wanted out of the army bad for obvious reasons, who was no lifer sergeant who'd get a charge out of sending guys over to 'Nam while he ate "delicious" army cook-made apple pie sent down to the orderly room specifically in case by the cook in the mess hall kitchen just for such sergeants.

There's Luke Short, the all-American cowboy as in ****** paperback Western books.

There's short as in people who might prefer being called "less tall".

There's short as in a cute little compact car; I believe that's Afro-American slang.

There's a short as in blown electrical fuse.

There's shortness as in missing something in a dining hall, for example.

There's getting short as in one working their way out of a basically unpleasant institution.

I'm sure there are those of you who know all about shortness.

Pardon me for being trite or somethin'.

As Reba McIntire says,
the heart is a lonely hunter.
but the lonely sea is its spear
So we go and dive into the sea
seeking to ride out our loneliness
till we hunt no more with our heart
In other words, at least here in America
we have a phrase like
from sea to shining sea in one of our songs
God Bless America
Loneliness is a state of mind
where we're fooking for a sign
to explain the times
as if the line in the cave analogy
of Plato's Republic
represents a fife and death matter
for alf of us
all the time
(not that all of us know about Plato)
and house the loneliness.

Some people would explain to me that he'd ******* over one of the nurses

He'd shake my hand and squeeze it and moan sorta and go aaaaahhh and his
eyes would mist up and I liked it when he called me STuries like I was one of of the men.
He'd strut and he was 6'9" and 260 lb and an ex-marine, maybe a combat type
and he'd sell watches with all of them spread out on his right arm to show people
and he was always grateful for the least bit of loose change from me, like 35 cents.
He just loved bread - he'd make sure he'd get 5 or 6 slices each meal.

An interesting character was Dively.
He's dead now - bless his heart.  Suicide, I heard, over what he though was my
mistreatment by some of the staff back then.
And oh yes he was a very very handsome fellow too, but in a
kind of tough unique way.  A sort of fair-haired Victor Mattie if I remember correctly.

Stefani, Gwen,
I know you got the sen sen
And me Sturies, Charles
I hope you think I'm darling
If you even know who I am
Also hope with resistance
You eke out an existance
That will lack in indifference
Over me,
Over me,
Over me.

Dudes who think they're cool
studs and *** symbols who are
slimey and adenoid cases
Non-combat vets who they're
combat vets.
Followers who think they're
leaders.
People who have delusions of
grandeur.
There're other people
who are way better.
Some of the shady looking
people in politics today.
People faking eccentricity
because the think it's going to
get 'em a better deal medically
you know,
We say the all-round man
symptoms where guys think they're
a combination of John Wayne and
Jimmy Dean with shades of
Vincent Van Gogh thrown in
Relevent gay people who imagine
their lives to be perfect
Certain plastic TV shows being in
fashion as well as kinda tacky food.
